Volkswagen Releases Teaser Images of the Four-Door Passat Coupe

vwpassatcoupeteaser.jpg
Volkswagen has just launched a minisite for the upcoming four-door Passat coupe. The teaser images on the site do not reveal very many details of what the final car is going to look like.

Overall details on the car are scarce, but we do know that the "coupe" is going to be priced higher than the regular Passat sedan and will probably feature similar powertrains. The "poor man's CLS" will be built on a modified Passat platform and will slot right below the next Phaeton in the VW lineup.

Audi is also going to launch a four-door coupe dubbed the A7.

Scotty:

Hopefully VW can get their reliability back up. Otherwise, should look interesting. VW needs a few cars to liven up their brand a bit. They charge a premium for less than average reliability, somewhat plain cars. They're turning into Volvo, just not as reliable.

CS:

I've owned 2 VWs now and both have been fine machines and no more problems, than any of the Fords, GMs, Chryslers, Toyotas, or BMW's I've owned. I do have do admit, they are higher priced when compared with similiar sized cars, however the car is a step above in the premium direction. Comare a Chevy Cobalt, Ford Focus and a VW Jetta and tell me which one looks nicer, has a nicer interior and which one you would rather have flying down the Autobahn pedal to the metal.

Allen:

"Poor Man's CLS?" Sign me up.

Snake:

I have owned a VW since 2002, purchased new, now with 207,800 miles.

Most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

I wish "VW reliability bashing" would actually balance out with those who are happy VW owners.

ugh:

Well I have owned 3 volkswagons, 93 Golf III, 96 Passat GLX, and 98 Jetta GLX.

Other than the nice v6 build quality has been horrible, especially the mexican manufactured models. Rattles, windows that mysteriously fall down and never able to get them back up, etc. And volkswagon customer server is the worst by far in the industry when you have major problems.

When I traded in my 1998 Jetta 3 of the four windows had to be held up with packing tape. There are so many posts online of similar issues and volkswagon will not recognize that its a manufactures defect so they do nothing about it. WORST Auto maker ever in my book.

As it stands now I would take a Ford over a VW.

iridiumshadow:

That was the problem VW had, vehicles from the years 95-02 had more than their share of reliability issues, and yes most of those vehicles were produced at the Mexican plants. I think its not an issue of poor engineering, but a lapse in Quality control.

The New generation of VW's have been performing wonderfully, receiving many awards and positive feedback. They have come 180 from their problems. And lets not forget, all vehicles suffer from mechanical problems, every now and again all the major manufacturers release a recall.

Stop the VW bashing, and enjoy the ride.

SEALBoy:

Call me a n00b, but I though coupes were two-doors by definition?

Polynikes:

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who raised an eyebrow after reading "Volkswagen has just launched a minisite for the upcoming four-door Passat coupe."

Bit of an oxymoron there.

Sphere:

Yes coupes are two doors only, check any reputable automobile book. Even Wikipedia got it right, just search for coupe.

Shame on magazines and blogs for not calling out manufacturers on yet another marketing toy for suckers.

Sphere:

I meant ploy
