MINI's CEO Kay Segler has confirmed the name of MINI's upcoming crossover/ SUV and it is going to be called the "Crossman".
Up until now the upcoming crossover has been referred to as the Colorado, but that was only a temporary name according to the CEO that told Auto Motor und Sport about the final name. The Crossman is expected to be released in 2010.
Other details on the Crossman are that it is going to be built by Magna International at its factory in Austria (where the current BMW X3 is built) and as much as 80,000 units are planned annually.

Well if it is going to be a SUV then it better be a Sport Utility Vehicle and not sitting near the ground.

One question if I may ask...WHY? As in, why would BMW dilute the Mini name for this? I understand the MINI and the Clubman version, but this makes no sense whatsoever.

Same deal as Porsche making (or putting their brand on) SUV's. It'll sell. It'll sell at a premium. It'll make them loads of $$$. It doesn't make sense to purists, but that doesn't matter. They're in the business of making money.
I can't remember where I read it, but HALF of all Porsche sales are from their Cayenne.
