The Last Chrysler Crossfire has Come off the Line...RIP Crossfire

2007chryslercrossfire.jpg
Last month Chrysler announced plans to kill four of their existing models, the Crossfire, Pacifica, PT Cruiser Convertible and Dodge Magnum. Well today the last Crossfire was produced in Germany.

After nearly five years of production and 80,000 Crossfires, the last one has been produced. Although it was still being produced Chrysler actually stopped taking orders for the Crossfire early last year due to declining sales. Last year only 8,216 Crossfires were sold compared to 14,665 for the year before.

Now we'll have to wait and see if Chrysler has anything in the works to replace the Crossfire. In addition we will have to wait and see which of the remaining three vehicles will receive the ax next.

BJ:

Who cares! Chrysler has a nasty habit of releasing models that nobody wants; except for the 300, Charger, and RAM trucks. The Pacifica was a crap car to begin with and the PT needs to die already. Next to be on the chopping block: Dodge Nitro, Caliber, and Avenger. Those things are hideous, not to mention their names are terrible. Oh, and Chrysler/Dodge, put some R&D into interior materials. Your build quality sucks, too!

PS: Please try not to screw up the Challenger. You finally have a beauty; don't F it up with cheap plastic and materials.

Al V:

Damn brotha! Amen to that! Couldn't have put it better myself! You forgot the most hideous of all though. The Jeep Compass aka's Chrysler's Aztek.

Dan:

crossfire = crapfire

I won't miss it.

It could have been quite the driver's car. But like any American car company trying to make an affordable (and good) sports coupe, Chrysler failed.

JohnnyNismo:

Mercedes didn't do much to improve this company. Their power trains aren't up to the task in bigger vehicles like the Magnum which suffers from chronic transmission problems. I drove a Crossfire SRT-6 and it had a decent power plant but for the price it was no match for a mere Nissan 350z or other cars in that category. It also looks terrible so good riddance.

What Chrysler and Dodge need to do is rethink their image. The traditional Chrysler and Dodge styling seem out of place in the 21st century. All those lines and fins are a bit much and distasteful nowadays IMO. The grills (especially Dodge's) are hideous. Only the trucks should have those ugly faces.

Polynikes:

I agree, the Dodge front grill theme is so 13 years ago. Time to move on, guys. And stop putting it on every car.

zzz:

good riddance

Andri:

This is good, those cars are awful. The challenger is the first good looking car they made since the original viper (subsequent viper designs look HORRIBLE, the original looks much more modern and stylish, why oh why is this company run by retards?!)

Kell:

I wrote this one off as soon as I heard there was no V8.

Allen:

Kell is right, without a big powerplant most American sportscars are just crap piles. Like this one was.

As to the company being ran by retards, its a good thing Cerberus Capital made lunch of Chrysler, as we will now be seeing things like this: cars being killed off, managers being fired, (hopefully) fewer union workers.

Patrick:

".....why oh why is this company run by retards?!"

I hear such things a lot actually. While I also do not agree with American car companies business models nor do I care for their products, it can hardly be argued they are run by morons.
I think it is more fair to say that Americans in general are retarded. It is they who after all buy this crap. It is Americans who turn out in numbers to purchase cheap looking, terribly built crap boxes by the 1000's. Why would anyone change if you could continue to build extremely cheap products with almost no design costs and charge just as much as the other guys and have people actually buy it?
I say if anything, they are clever.

Noya:

Patrick, we "retarded Americans" are not turning out in massive numbers....hence the "junk bond" status of the GM/Ford/Chrysler stocks. With 300+ million citizens and 20+ million Mexican illegals, of course there are some morons buying American cars. These companies are bleeding red and I think it's hilarious....er, sad, especially with the amount they spend on marketing/ advertising/ buying "Car of the Year" awards.

Back on topic, I the SRT6 Crossfire was classy looking IMHO. But interior was shite (kit car anyone?), it used MB's old recirculating ball steering, had no manual, etc. etc.

Peter:

The Crossfire had a particular problem as it was built in Germany at Karman. Now with the Euro/Dollar conversion rate it was probably tough to make any money with the Crossfire. I was looking at one just about 2 weeks ago. New 2006 convertible for around 30k out the door ...

Saul:

Noya,
You my friend, your an idiot. Illegal mexicans don't buy cheap crapy cars. They normaly buy full size trucks and they buy the cash. They are not the idtiots getting brand new pieces of crap on four wheels for 13K.

SteelCity1981:

Well, when your company is sold to 2 diff companies in 10 years, then it tells you a lot about that company. I think the lack of quality that Chrysler has put in their cars for some many years is soo etched into people’s minds, which most people pass on the cars as soon as they hear the name Chrysler associated with it. The only exception is the 300 series, but then again Benz did put a lot of their own quality into that car as the last great hope for that merger, but it was too little too late.

GT Fan:

I was never a fan of this vehicle, even though I did do some thorough reading of the product before its release, in comparison with last generation's Mercedes SLK...

I know a few people who bought it...

To quote a once famous pop song "Baby, Bye, Bye Bye..."

That's all I can really comment about.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Chaser:

The Crossfire was the utlimate chick sports car given to her by her overpaid government employed husband. What was even worse was seeing a guy caught driving in one in town with that stupid spoiler raised up on purpose.

I never liked the Crossfire. There were far better alternatives in that class like the 350Z for example.

But this idea that Americans are retarded. You sir can thank the U.S. auto industry for many innovations you enjoy in your over priced Euro heap. Despite the woes of Ford, GM and Chrysler there are still some very competitive, world class cars available from each of these manufacturers. Although its convenient of you to think of every U.S. car as a Crossfire or Pinto I'll keep in my mind Saabs and Volvos that plummet in resale value as soon as the ink is dry on the sales contract.

Bob t:

Love all name calling and product bashing. Shows the high level of refinement you have.
The reason for for all these cars companies to exist in the first place( besides making money). is choice.
I've owned every major American brand at one time or another. I bought them because at the time I liked the look. Some ran great some didn't. Also have owned several Japanese and European cars. All have had their issue. My 2 current are a 2003 Dodge Ram Hemi (83,000) and a 2007 300C. while fit and finish is not world class, they have given me not an ounce of problems. Will I buy another, hard to say.Money is not an issue as my wife and I do very well. If you don't like a vehichle-fine. Don't bash everyone because you don't like it.Chances are your's are that great.
By the way I don't/didn't much care for the Crossfire

04CROSSFIRE:

What a bunch of blowhard jackasses. You guys are just jealous loudmouths who are too piss poor, stupid, and low class to even be seen in a Crossfire, let alone own one. It saddens me the amount of stupidity there is on the internet and how quickly people are to put something down that they really know nothing about. And yes, I own a Crossfire. I'm almost glad that they've stopped making them. They will be worth that much more down the road.

Idiots...
