Land Rover Concept Photo Leaked...Will Coupe Crossovers be the Next Big Thing?

landie_concept.jpg
This past September Land Rover released a single teaser image of its upcoming concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Now one of the first official photos of the concept has been leaked.

The two door (coupe) crossover is going to be smaller than the current LR2 and seats four passengers. The coupe crossover SUV segment is going to be the next emerging market with BMW, Audi and VW all preparing models. The Land Rover concept is expected to enter production in 2011.

The Land Rover concept will be officially unveiled next month at the Detroit Auto Show.

"over priced american gas guzzling garbage"

Ummmm. Land Rover is British......

How do you define a Crossover coupe? 2 door SUVs have been around for quite some time.

JOhn:

Land Rover is owned by Ford, the Brits don't have many cars left

GT Fan:

Brad is right.

2 Door SUV's have been around for a long time.

Most notably in North America, the Ford Explorer, and GMC Jimmy type products.

If they mean coupe, as in something with smoother lines, and less utility than the normal ilk... (by that I mean the normal 4door bretheren)
Does that not defeat the purpose of a Sport Utility Vehicle?

Oh, and Al V is right too.

The mechanicals on the Land Rover Range Rover we owned a couple years ago... well we don't own it anymore for a reason.

The wife is considering the LR3, but for what its worth... I think she's best to consider other alternatives.

A close friend of mine is a foreman for a large home construction company. He had a Land Rover Discovery that he used on site. At approx. 3000 miles , the transmission failed and the kindly "go anywhere" Land Rover road service refused to tow it because it was over 10ft away from a paved surface (he was approx. 20' from a paved road leading into a future subsection). After it was fixed on my friend's dime, he traded it in for a mid nineties Pathfinder that now has over 240k trouble free miles ( and yes it sees mud weekly). I wouldn't even consider shopping for a Land Rover.

Tony:

Crossover.. Coupe..

Can't we just call it what it is? A hatchback? The Yaris isn't advertised as a "Mini Crossover." What's with the "Crossover" BS?! There's no such thing as a Crossover, these are glorified station wagons. But you have to sell to the masses, and Station Wagons are dead. 5-doors and Hatchbacks just don't hit the same note as "Crossover SUV" I guess, and lets face it, who buys a car for utility anymore?

For the record, people, the xA/xD/xBs are NOT MINI SUVS DAMNIT!!!! They are hatchbacks. Why is it that Americans must associate anything with a large cargo area as an SUV? Can it tow? Can it haul? Can it off-road with the rest of the trucks? Then it ISN'T an SUV, OR a friggin' crossover. It's a hatchback. A car with a large trunk. This goes for the Murano, Highlander, Rav4, Matrix, Versa, Edge, Equinox, Pacifica, Escape, Acadia, CR-V, and another hundred other cars. These are station wagons with lifts, get over it.

Al V:

Looks like I'm with the majority lol. Funny reading Automobile mag I think it was where they drove a new LR3 off the dealer lot and the light show on the dash board went to Defcon 4.
