Hyundai Unveils the Genesis Emblem and Confirms its 375 Horsepower V8

Hyundai has unveiled the Genesis emblem that will only be on the model that is sold in Korea and China. The US spec. Genesis will have the same Hyundai emblem as the rest of the lineup.

In addition to the new emblem, Hyundai also revealed the official horsepower rating for the top of the line V8 engine. It will put out 375 horsepower and be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. A 3.3L engine is the intro engine and a 3.8L V6 is the mid-line engine.

It is rumored that the Genesis coupe will not get the 375 horsepower V8 and instead will have to make due with a turbocharged 2.0L and a 300 horsepower 3.8L V6.

Noya:

2.0L turbo/RWD, yah! I bet it's nearly the same engine that's in the new Evo, 4b11 or something (since Mitsu/Hyundai/Dodge share small engine architecture). Hopefully they're as stout as the older 4G63T.

Sabby:

If the V6 is putting out 300hp, don't expect the 2.0L turbo to do so...

Joan of Arc:

Aw, why isn't it coming here? I personally don't like the tilted 'H' of Hyundai, but it looks like the car is shaping up nicely.

gm0n3y:

Am I the only one that noticed the discrepancy here:

"Hyundai also revealed the official horsepower rating for the top of the line V8 engine"

and

"It is rumored that the Genesis coupe will not get the 375 horsepower V8"

Anyways I think the 2.0L turbo (if it has at least 250HP) and the 300HP v6 should be more than enough for the car. If they start throwing in higher HP engines, the price is sure to go up.

Sabby:

Emblem reminds me of Aston Marton.

Gary:

@gm0n3y

No discrepancy. The coupe won't get the V8 but the Sedan will.

Gary:

I wonder if the V8 will be a somewhat easy swap into the Coupe? I'd imagine since they're based on the same chassis it won't be too tough.

A RWD Coupe with Turbo 4, V6, and V8 options would be a tuners dream. I just don't get why they won't throw the V8 in the coupe from the factory.....

SteelCity1981:

Remember when people were laughing at Hyundai 10 years ago as in "Who the hell are they?" or "They can never compete in the global market." Well fast forward to 10 years later and a lot of people that laughed or mocked Hyundai 10 years ago are taking a whole other look at Hyundai now.

Jason:

This emblem alone looks better than half the concept cars recently announced. Also, even if it is in the car, the 4b11 doesn't seem to be as stout as the 4g63. So far in the community, the 4b11 seems to be a step down from the legendary mitsu engine.

@SteelCity1981

Hyundai is remaking the wave of Toyota in the 80's/90's. Given another decade or two, if Hyundai makes more decent cars, they may be number one. Toyota is in a stale situation, they are trying to make vehicles that please everyone. That means most of their cars will be bland or have an identity crisis of some sort. Look at how GM fell trying to make Buick, Cadillac, Geo, and Oldsmobile accomodate everybody. Hyundai is differentiating into different branchs to please different markets. They are on the right track, and hopefully they make it to the top in our lifetime. Unless Kim Jong il invades SK or something crazy...

(P.S. I still like Toyota more than any other company, but it seems they only make a good product when they aren't at the top)

SteelCity1981:

@ Jason.

That's what happenes when you get to be ontop of the industry, you start devoloping a lazyness towards invoation that got you to the top in the first place.

gm0n3y:

I didn't even realize they were making a Genesis sedan. Why would you not offer the larger engine in the coupe? People that want a coupe usually want more power. That being said, I think that I would take the 2.0L turbo (at 250+ hp) or the 300hp v6 over the v8 anyways. Low curb weight, meaning better handling and better gas mileage, is more important to me that 75 more hp. Plus I'm sure the v8 will cost at least a few thousand over the v6.

kill off all automatic and clutch-less transmissions. everyone, do it! seriously.... they're ruining cars and drivers

2ms:

The 2.0 turbo is a 20% smaller version of the engine in the Caliber SRT-4. Thus, you can expect it to either have considerably more turbo lag or considerably less power.

kill off automatics? are you crazy? My commute would become a bigger pain in the ass than it already is. I don't think so. If I want to commute to work in a cheaper sports car, I shouldn't have to shift my own gears if I don't want to. I say don't kill off autos, just offer manuals in more cars. I'd love to see a 6M SL55 or something like that. It'd have to be a hell of a transmission to handle 516lb-ft...
