Kudos to Audi!
I've read several reviews of the R8...it sounds like the perfect $100k sports car. Mid-engine / rear biased AWD layout, high-revving direct injected DOHC V8, available DSG trans, powerful brakes, quality interior...though to me the exterior isn't really beautiful / jaw dropping.

I love this car. It reminds me of that car in The Wraith (only much much bettter). I would love to be able to wake up every day and drive it on the thousands of miles of freeways Texas has.

I think this car looks amazing. But I also think it needs the power bumped up little bit (supercharger/turbochargers on the V8 maybe?) and it would be one of the most amazing supercars available, especially given the price. Even if the price went up a little bit for the extra power it would be worth it. Right now it can't quite keep up with its competitors (911 turbo, Z06) as far as speed is concerned.
Great looking vehicle though, hopefully it will only be improved upon with time.

Saw this car up close and personal at the San Antonio Car Dealer Auto Show and it is indeed jaw dropping.
The glass engine compartment and design is very reminiscent of the Bugatti!
Kudos to Audi for getting right!

They will really get it right once they offer it with their spectacularly competent 4.2 liter turbodiesel.

LOL, the car is awesome.I had the opportunity to jump in one in my city. The president of our soccer team owns one, and because i am a big fan for many years of this team... i had the chance to se "her" close...., It's beautiful, it has a great engine sound, sweet shapes BUT... it kind of lacks power if you put her with the big ones like SLR or Enzo.Good job Audi.... too bad it had to pass so many years after another car... like Quattro

I think that Audi deserves this award. They took a Gallardo platform and made it more user friendly for the driver. There are plenty of top notch sports cars at this strata, but Audi designed the R8 to be driver friendly. spacious inside and capable of being used year round.

So how much extra does it cost to actualy get them to finish painting the car?

Wow how the German's have lost their way. They've spent so much time trying to copy the Japanese that their magazines are clueless.
This car has hideous boy racer looks and lack luster performance. Sorry anyone with 100k to blow on this car must be in a boy band and under 30 or needs lots of Viagra. On the flip said it drives with civility of a touring car. I'm really not sure what their goal was aside from wasting a perfectly good Gallardo chassis. I guess those European roads are worse than I remember.

Probably one of the best looking sports cars to come out of europe in years, if not decades. I don't agree that it looks "boy racer", whatever that means (sounds like something I would call a 3000-GT). I find the styling to be very "mature", for lack of a better word.

@RX-7 Guy:
Agreed that it won't win the horsepower wars. However, it reminds me of the Acura NSX. That was not the most powerful, but lightweight and really was a superb driver's car.

Nice, but underpowered to others in this catagory
Lexus LF-A vs. Audi R8
V10 > V8
5L > 4.2L
500Hp > 415Hp
They are at the same price point and i must say, after the Chi auto-show 2007, i saw both, and the Lexus wins. The interior is like no other on the Lexus, and no doubt it will beat this is a race. Also, the looks of the LF-A are far superior than this, even though this isn't too shabby
Audi does have an Ace up it's sleeve because they own Lamborghini. When this gets the Lambo V10 or the 7L V12 Diesel, it will be a sight to see and hard to beat at this price point.

Was that the car that cost twice as much as my FD yet was out performed in just about every measurable category? More importantly which one aged better? Your point is well taken though. I just don't get the mindset
The term boy-racer referrer to all that busy body work which if truly functional wouldn't result in the sedan like drag coefficient of this car. Oh that right it's for down force how silly of me... You can actually make down force without looking rediculis.
Really, where are the good car designers that made works of art that were as fast as they were beautiful. For a $100k is that too much to ask?

you don't need much horsepower to have fun....
unless you're familiar to the power and handling of cars better than r8.

Fantastic car, as much as I adore the Carrera, this is the new benchmark in this segment. Audi already has a V10 'mule' doing testing in Germany so expect to see it in the next couple of years. I can't wait to see it go up against the LF-A, and the new NSX, although the new GT-R will probably be just as fast for half the price...

I think the car looks fine, although it's not overly pretty. In the ned it would be hard for me to buy this over one of its competitors due to Audi's horrible reliability track record.

Short of ridiculous HP this car has it all. Seriously, who needs more HP than this Audi offers, especially considering gas prices and speed limits.
There's hardly a thing wrong and talk about a cruiser... somewhere I read that if you "overfill" the tank it will cruise up to like 420 miles on one fill....(it was a respectable car magazine so i'm sorry i can't quote it...)

This car has been tested on tracks faster than the Corvette Z06 and the Porsche 4S, by the way. The fact that there is only 420 hp doesn't hold it back. Its 0-60 is 4 seconds, compared to the Corvettes 3.6. Its Quarter is only slightly slower as well, but mid-engine design and AWD have pushed it to faster Nuremburgring times.
And do not start pumping the Z06 people: indeed, many cars beat the Z06 on the Nuremburgring: it posts a time of 7.42:99, the Nissan GT-R (heavier and not as well balanced as the R8) posts a time of 7.38.54. The GT-R posted faster times than the Z06 at Laguna Seca as well.
Well, now that I've done that bit, I'd like to roll it into this statement: hp means a lot, but there are things that overcome it. Clearly when a less powerful GT-R and R8 are beating the Corvette Z06 around the 'ring, I do not have to prove that to hard.
