2010 Chevy Camaro Caught Nearly Naked!

camaro.jpg
The concept version of the upcoming Chevy Camaro was revealed almost two years ago at the Detroit Auto Show in 2006. Since then we have yet to see very many actual photos of the production model...until now.

The guys over at Camaro5 have posted an almost naked production version of the Camaro. From this single photo you can tell that the production version is going to look very close to the concept. The main changes that we can see here are the addition of the B pillar, revised mirrors and the deletion of the slots in front of the rear wheel wells. Unfortunately the car is still wearing a lot of camo on the front and rear, so we cannot tell how much those areas of the car have changed.

It looks like we will have to wait a bit longer to see the new Camaro in all its glory. The actual production date for the coupe is set at February 16, 2009.

So basically they're removed everything that made the car look special. Whoever decided to make these changes needs to be fired.

Why is it that car manufacturers always remove all the coolest details of prototypes before they get to production? One day they'll realise they will sell more cars if they stop doing that.

john:

Has a hint of the new Challenger on the side.

Well, because prototypes are just that, prototypes. Auto-show smoke and mirrors. There are things that must be addressed on a production vehicle (cost, security, manufacturability, etc.) that the prototype doesn't address most of the time.

radkon:

the slots in front of the rear wheels are there but they are difficult to see.

Dale Van Helfteren:

Looks too much like a Charger... I can understand a few changes (safety, like mirors being certain sizes, which sux cos the mirrors are hot) but not sure about why the grill... the grill is hot... chuck a couple more lights next to the two there for better light... sweet !!!
I would have so so so considered getting one of those if it wasnt for the fact that there is snow here for 5-7 months of the year... wouldnt take this baby out in that cr@p

Allen:

Why did it take three years to bring this to market? I've said it before, but with Transformers buzz already leaving this car, by the time it comes to market only the "Buy America" crowd or those without a sense of saving gas will want this car. Dammit, whats wrong with this company?

Reggie:

How the f&#k is this considered "Nearly Naked"!?!? Who the hell writes these titles? There's nothing interesting here at all and the car's just as covered as any concept car is before production.

RX-7 Guy:

First it's a 2009 Camaro
2nd Transformers 2 will out in 2009

nearly naked? Perhaps it is posing for the centerfold of a car magazine? :)

It is still very nice looking. It would be even better if it had a flex fuel system; making mean and green. :)

Allen:

But will it generate any buzz for being in that movie at all? GM might even mess it up by making Bumble Bee into a different car like a Trans-Am (please, oh god please GM, do not make another Camaro clone like the Trans-Am), or new GTO (again, we do not need clones!).

Also, if my campaign against Michael Bay works, no one will see another of his films again. Man, I hate that guy.

GM still isn't making good vehicles, Bush is still President, Hero's new season isn't out already, and Michael Bay gets to direct movies. There is no god.

Geoffrey Swenson:

It looks like a Charger partly because the orginal Charger that inspired the current retro lines was in turn derived from the original Camaro lines. Not the other way around.

GM will sell plenty of these because Chrysler apparently can't make reliable cars despite a decade of access to German engineering resources. Now they have even fewer resources, and it will probably get worse. It's so bad that a low-end brand like Hyundai has better reliability and more refined cars than Chrysler these days.

It is also much more likely that the Camaro will have very refined chassis / ride / handling that will beat the sox off on anything Chrysler is able/willing to do.

Jason:

I think they should use this car in the Knight Rider remake rather than the Mustang. I'll be glad when this comes out, I still wanted to buy a newer GTO after GM stopped producing it.

Justin:

Doesn't this car look exactly like a Dodge Charger? Only 2 doors? Maybe a little bit of a mix of a Ford Mustang - maybe widened a bit? Funny how they all copy each other.

I used to love american cars when I was in highschool. Chevy Caprice, Chevy Camero, Pontiac Firebird... I was expecting by this day cars would be $25,000 with all options, a 400HP engine, 25+ year life span and 50MPG. Sure some might consider that fanciful - but with the way technology was evolving (especially technology SEPARATE from the Auto Industry) it was well within reason when you researched it.

Todays cars, especially American cars and even a lot of foreign cars - are total junk. They are form over substance. The substance being the same internal combustion engine as was used 100 years ago. Pathetic. When will people demand for a much improve machine? Something that is truly revolutionary and does not expel toxic fumes (Co2 is HARMLESS by the way, despite what the media says). A benign car. Ah well, it'll never happen. This is the wonderful "capitalism system" for you. It works' doesnt it? It benefits the people tremendously as you can see - now that we're all dependent on short lived (constantly needing repairs or maintenance) gas hogs!

Travis:

Wow this actually looks ok with that hideous front end covered up, the side line looks a lot like it did on say a 67. White is not this car's color though.

Justin:

Quit bitching, fag.

WASPM:

Cars use more gas because thats what people want to buy, not because it's some stupid conspiracy by the auto industry...

If you want a car with good gas mileage go get a small car!

But no one wants a small car?

Emissions and safety protocols have hurt fuel economy more than anything else. (remember the Civic VX? Killed by OB2...)

Fat Americans and their love for big cars with big motors is what hurts fuel economy of the average car. Automakers make what people buy. The honda fit now has more interior room than the original Accord did years back.

Stop blaming GM, Ford and Chrysler for the stupidity of the consumer!

Go drive a small car, I do.

David:

It might not have the slots near the wheel wells because maybe this is the V6 base model.

Brian:

I would gladly stop blaming the car manufactures if it wasn't for the government. You can't make a car like an early 90's Civic anymore. I mean it has to have at minimum 2 air bags, enough electronics to have power everything, and stability control (well you aren't making high stars on a government safety report without it are you?). So once you pile in another 500 lbs of over priced worthless add ons I didn't ask for, yeah it's going to get worse gas mileage. Add in the craptacular ODB2 and you get a total rip of the American public. Basically cars are heavier (potentially safer I suppose), get worse gas mileage, and now my state doesn't even do an emissions test. Nope, I pay the wonderful state of NC 30+ a year so I can tell them my check engine light isn't on. You know what? Of the codes that are part of your ODB2/check engine light, only about 20% actually effect your emissions. So when my wifes fuel gauge sending unit goes on the blip the check engine light goes on. And that means she would have failed an inspection. So no, I'm not angry at any car makers. I am angry that my government is trying to protect people from themselves. The last thing I need is more stupid people getting into accidents only to walk away without any injuries so they can do it again. There is a reason 74% of all traffic tickets get issued to the same people.

Like everyone else on here says, give us a drivers car. A simple car that handles good and is easy to work on. If you want to sell more cars then start listeing to what people really want, it's whatever their neighbor has.

SteelCity1981:

I knew the side mirrors of the concept wouldn't go into production, they are too small and would be more of a safety problem trying to look through them then anything else. I mean, that was a no brainer there.

The car itself looks close to the concept, but not exactly like the concept which was another no brainer considering no production car has ever looked like the concept car exactly and that's due to obv reasons from a safety standpoint and a comfort standpoint. If anyone has ever been in a concept car before you know exactly what i'm talking about.

Like others have said concept cars are just that to give people the idea of what an upcoming model may look like to spark interest.

rufracer:

Anyone else getting tired of remaking cars from 40 years ago? Are there really that many impotent guys out there to make these cars successful? WTF? How about something new looking from America.

WS:

Hey rufracer,

The cars made 40 years ago were designed with classic proportions that will always be desirable. Since then, all the automakers have played with goofy, poorly proportioned designs, futuristic plastic crap, and cheapo shoe-boxes that never really caught on. Bring back the 40 year-old designs! Back then, cars were rolling artwork.

I used to laugh at the Olds commercials in the 90's..."This is not your father's Oldsmobile" Yep, you're right...my father's Olds was a '65 coupe, front buckets with a tach on the center console, and a 330 cu. in V8. It was not a front drive, plastic shoebox, Chevroldsmobuiac.

Sphere:

Chrylser usually makes the final production cars much closer to the prototypes than any other company I know. Remember the Prowler? Viper? Although of course different for the reasons many pointed above, they were nevertheless surprinsingly close to the prototypes, many on the press commended Crysler for that.

I have high hopes for the Dodge Challenger. I'm pretty sure we have already seen how it will look like. If they could have made the prowler, and the low roof 300, etc. I can't see they changing anything untill production.

But not for this one. It's downhill from now untill 2009: HID not led headlighs, higher roof, higher ride height (even on top sport models) than on the prototype seen, smaller wheels, bigger front grille opening...crap.

Ray:

Hey Geoffrey,

Chrysler made both money and reliable cars BEFORE Daimler-Benz took them over. Now you have 'performance' cars that you can't tune, and suspensions that can't be upgraded because there are no German performance parts made for them. The Hemi is shit, but the styling is okay. They turned that company into absolutely the worst car company in a very short decade. Chrysler was making the most money and the best new ideas of any car company IN THE WORLD, and Daimler ruined them. Ever heard of the mini van?Get your facts and your history straight idiot.

mbw:

wow it's butt ugly just like the current camaro. Go figure.

Go4broke:

Uhh Justin..

They are called Pony Cars.. they are all design throwbacks to the original Pony Cars and they all shared the same themes.

So the question is do you understand what a pony car is? if not, perhaps you should research them and gain a bit of understanding of the market placement of these vehicles.

(is it just me or do people understand nothing of the evolution of these vehicles?)
