2009 GMC Terrain is Going to Replace the Pontiac Torrent

gmcterrain.jpg
Last month GM unveiled the GMC Terrain in Kuwait that is essentially a rebadged version of the Saturn Vue, which is also a rebadged version of the Opel Antara. According to reports that are supposed to be released tomorrow, the GMC Terrain is going to be sold in the US and will effectively replace the Pontiac Torrent.

The 2009 GMC Terrain will be GMC's first small crossover SUV. Would you buy this over the current Torrent or Saturn Vue?

Jim:

The Torrent was a rebadged version of the Equinox and last all of 3 years (2006-2008). This is just a rebadged version of a Vue, which is a rebadged version of...can't GM just make new models? I wonder how long this model will last.

WS:

Hopefully, GM is on it's way to making Pontiac a true performance car division. If that is their intention, I don't think they really need an SUV/people hauler anyway. Leave that market to Chevy/Saturn.

Greenhornet:

Bad idea for USA CANADA market, smacks of old GM badge engineering among domestic brands. Should remain a Saturn exclusive. Could be worse though, They could have given it to Chevy.or Pontiac.

I'm an Aztek owner right from the beginning ... a 2001 GT sits firmly in my driveway. As my warranty is due to expire in April, i've started looking around. I looked at the Cadillax SRX and found although luxurious, it is like a station wagon, low and long ... too low to be SUV material and too long for my garage. I did a comparison study between the Torrent and Equinox and found the Torrent to be a cheaper car, cloth only seats, cute to look at, but alas cheap and not long lasting (2006-08). Really wish GMC would bring back the Aztek, a tad lower (cause it sways in high winds) and with a rear windshield wiper (too practical!), parking sensors would be nice too. You see my GT is luxurious w leather and heated seats, super sound system, quad chairs, and really roomy so it provides my OES a place to play and sleep. I really can't say anything too bad about the Aztek GT, it's served me very well, taken me camping, drove me to gala events and allowed me to schlep renovation materials. When i saw the pic of the Terrain, first thing that came to mind was the Murano which is kinda neat w nice lines. Hoping the Terrain will follow GT givings, ie luxury and conservative price. I'm very anxious to see the finisihed product both interior and exterior and find it rather odd that although the 2009 Vibe is being advertised, what's going on with the Terrain and Equinox. I'd gladly be a tester for either vehicle but if not, l look forward to a demo vehicle, cheaper but w warranty.
