Cadillac Escalade Hybrid Unveiled

escladehybrid.jpg
The Truth About Cars has decided to break GM's embargo on the new Cadillac Escalade Hybrid.

The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is powered by 6.0L V8 with Active Fuel Management and late-intake valve closing technology, a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS) that is mated to a new electrically variable transmission with start/stop technology. It also features a regenerative braking system, a 42-volt variable-assist power steering setup, a new exhaust system and resonator and an electrically driven, 300-volt air conditioning compressor.

The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid will be officially unveiled next week at the LA Auto Show.

zippy:

Basketball and Rap stars can now get with the hybrid fad.
Makes me warm inside.

gm0n3y:

Wow, I'm not sure who is going to buy this. If somebody wants to either get decent mileage or be nice to the environment, I don't think they are going to be considering an Escalade. They should make the hybrid options standard.

Although, I think the kind of people that buy Escalades measure their manhood in the amount of an impact they can leave on both other people and the environment. On second thought, maybe they should attach baseball bats to the doors that automatically club any nearby baby seals, it would probably sell better than the hybrid option.

WS:

Green with my bling, yo?

Frank :

This is the dumbest idea I have ever heard of, stop making these cars, build something that’s makes more sense with 3 dollar a gallon prices no one is going to buy this Friken, car just because it get 2 miles an hour better, just put a v6 in it for god’s sake it will get better gas mileage if that’s what they really are looking for!

Kell:

Great, another 'poser' vehicle. Is it fast? No. Is it fuel efficient? No. does it handle well in the twisties? No. Can I haul stuff in it? Yeah, something clean like groceries maybe. Better not get it dirty!

I don't like these SUVs because they are all bling and no fun (my opinion). They are high maintenance. Everything suffers from it's weight and shape. Handling dynamics, fuel, aerodynamics(it's a brick), brakes, tires, drivetrain, suspension, hell even just washing it takes an hour.

Don't get me started about getting stuck behind one in traffic. You can't see a damn thing, and I like to see what's ahead, not just the tailgate 'wall' in front of me. I like to anticipate when to brake, change lanes, etc. If you want to buy one, fine, your problem. Just stay out of my way. IMO these things create unsafe zones around them, especially with a chatty soccer mom at the helm.

If GM quit wasting time creating these 'road barges', maybe they could make better cars (concept cars don't count). They do make a couple good ones, but they could do sooo much better with the talent they have. What a waste.

/end rant

Allen:

That is a new rap lyric, WS. I can see Lil Wayne buying the hybrid Escalade and making a song around it even. Holy hell it gets funnier as you think about it.

mf:

Gm better watch out, people are going to sue them next, because they can't get the advertised mileage. Suv drives are the worst, the vehicle is too large for most of them, so they're constantly accelerating and breaking any time something happens 10 car lengths ahead of them. Its funny how many suv drivers you can pass just doing the speed limit, when they encounter a little bit of traffic.

Other than the CTS what cadillac can you get, that isn't just a gmc in disguise. Yes I know the sts, but no body wants that.

longdxcommuter:

Does anyone else think that a hybrid setup and rollin' on DUB's is about a pointless as crome plating a shovel?

Just look out if they're trying to change lanes chances are they'll run over you.

Chris:

733t dubs yo

*rolls eyes*

This is what all the illegal Mexicans use their drug money and forged-application-acquired welfare checks to buy.

Chris:

I like when big blinged out trucks and SUVs with loud exhausts 15 TVs with nobody watching them and 30" rims try to race me, they think they can beat anything because their 8,000 lb truck has a 300 HP V8 *rolls eyes*

I like spinning it through first, second and part of third on purpose so they can hear the tires melting and the twin screw screaming to 7,000 RPM as I pass them with no traction while their automatic tranny is shifting into its 15th gear just to get rolling across the intersection.

Their money, they can but what they want. But stupid in my book. Buy a real truck and get some mud on it pansy.

MemphisNET:

The Suburban I get. The Yukon I get. Then you get to the Denali's and this thing.... and I'm floored. I know they're all the same vehicle, but at least they make some small sense. I drive an 07 Suburban for work, and carry 4 co-workers and all our equipment in it. To get 18-20mpg instead of the 9-12 would be great. It's still not great mileage, but its BETTER. And any improvement is a step in the right direction.

These vehicles are becoming less and less needed, but when they are, they may as well improve the tech. as much as possible

Brian:

What you say? My baby's momma pimpin' dis shiz yo!

I love GM, but they need to lay off the crack pipe.

HOWEVER, I will say this is probably the best platform to just test things out on. 1. Anyone that has one will probably never own it more than 3 years. 2. It's expensive as all get out to begin with, why not make it more. 3. It already cost a fortune on upkeep. Looks like the perfect crowd to test out new ideas on.

rene:

hybrid????
You mean it has a nuclear reactor in the back?

zzz:

if rappers didnt rap about this thing, it wouldve been dead a long time ago. Talk about the customer base

Carnut57:

Small yet powerful, GM's new "nuclear" Escalade is the hybrid of the future. GM's latest offering shows true potential in the outrageously priced "hybrid" market.

Seriously.... No one NEEDS a vehicle like this. Anyone who says they do should go out and buy themself a decommisioned short bus. At least they tried to improve the fuel mileage but adding 1,000 lbs worth of battery isn't the way.

longdxcommuter:

Let's see, we have a blinged out 6000lbs vehicle rolling on 20's. Correct. So....lets make it heavier with a battery pack and electric motors (surprised they are not crome plated as well). To quote William Shatner in Airplane 2 , " Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes...."

Alexvrb:

Hey guys, I've got an idea! Let's BASH it day and night even though we don't have any experience with it or any good details. Hell, don't even follow the link and read about the 50% boost in fuel economy, which is pretty impressive for a monstrous boat like this. No sir, just bash.

Oh wait, too late we already did that. Well lets go find another popular american vehicle to bash. I think there's still room in the malibu thread...

Seriously, there are people who have the money and want this type of vehicle. Now they can get one that's a lot more efficient, if they give a shit. That's all. They're going to buy them regardless.

Shawn:

I like the idea of getting hybrid tech in other areas of the auto market. I dont think I would get one of the SUV but I wish they would put this tech in pickups. I have a pickup for work and would love to improve the gas mileage on my 3/4 ton truck. I think they could do a lot for a work truck with more power outlets and stuff. Even better would be tech from the chevy volt.
