Aston Martin May Build Cars Outside of the UK for the First Time Ever

am_rapide01.jpg
According to the latest rumors and reports Aston Martin officials may be mulling the idea of producing cars outside of the UK for the first time in the company's 93 year history.

Documents that were seen by the Financial Times reportedly show plans to outsource the production of a future sedan, most likely the new Rapide. Several European companies have already been contacted. Pininfarina, Karmann, Magna Steyr and Finland’s Valmet all in the running.

The Rapide four-door coupe is due out in late 2009 and due to the fact that Aston Martin's Gaydon facility is already running near capacity means that there will not be any room for the new sedan.

longdxcommuter:

More than Ferrari or Lamborghini, Aston Martin is the ultimate cool car IMO. I have always likes the dignified but timeless lines of the DB's and the Vantage. I just hope that the car does not lose the English character that embodies Aston Martin.

Noya:

I concur; these new Astons are beautiful with their subtle, classy style (relative to Ferrari/Lambo/Porche).

rene:

that's a good day for quality

John:

Will I be able to drive it more than 30km before a servicing now??

SVT:

They should've let Pininfarina not only build it but design it too, in my opinion car looks too bland, too british, just plain too blue-blooded, although it does keep the traditional Aston lines. But than again this is coming from a guy that likes Corvettes so my opinion doesn't really count, right?

rene:

Aston Martini or Bombay Martin?

Kell:

The styling of the Vantage line is one of my favorites. I hope they aren't thinking of building a plant in Mexico.

beni:

Bombay Martin it shall be!!

beni:
