Spies have managed to capture a few shots of the upcoming 2009 Ford F-150. Up until now we have only seen prototypes of the truck fully cloaked in camouflage.
It is not known what changes lie under the hood, but from the outside the changes are little more than a typical facelift. The headlights, hood, grille and front bumper have all been changed and outback there are new tailights. The front and rear fenders also receive a new sharp-edged character line. The interior of the new F-150 also receives some minor updates.
The new 2009 F-150 is going to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
Are you disappointed with Ford's conservative refresh of its best selling model? With the new GM trucks and Toyota Tundra already out and a new Dodge Ram on the horizon do you think Ford should have done more to maintain its top sales position?

So being cautious means... making extreme changes? Wow.

extreme changes means change the grill/headlights/taillights now?!?!?!? WOW.
You would think after 5 model years they would at least change the sheet metal.

Oh I'm Sorry.
I feel asleep looking at the pictures of the F150

Real truck guys aren't all that concerned about the sheet metal. So long as it does its job (allowing things to be loaded into the bed, and keeping it there until its time to unload) they don't really care.
They want a truck that can tow, that can carry, that won't break down.
This article is all about appearances. Those are minor issues to real truck guys.

Um....... real truck guys aren't driving an F150, that's for sure. Anyone doing any work with a truck is driveing an F250-350+ or other 3/4 or greater truck. F150 is a sissy ;-)

Yes, the f-150 is like the suv of the pickup trucks, useless. f-250/350 with diesel is what people that have got work to do use (unless they are already sick of the reliability issues and choose Dodge Ram).

What's up with the monster boot on the shift lever. Are we going back to manual shift on the column? 5 on the tree?

@andri & WR
I'm sure the f-150 is fine for general contracting work. The only reason to get a 3/4 or 1 ton would be for major towing, and with new diesel standards you aren't saving much on fuel cost either.

Personally I like the look of the truck and still think it looks fresh for being a 5 year old design. Yes they need to make some cosmetic changes, but why reinvent the wheel just to say you did it? You have the #1 selling truck so why risk tossing it under the bus with a look everyone hates (aka subaru, 2006.) America motor companies are not known for their total make-overs anyway, so this is pretty much in line with what you would and should expect. Give it another 4-5 years and you will see an all new F150 in 2012-2013.

Man, it looks like suck. Seriously, I see a lot of Ford Edge in the front and thats it. After five years all they are going to give the loyal F-150 customers is a minor, so-so facelift?
Bullshit to you Ford. I'm not one of your customers, but they deserve better than that despite being white-trash.

If they want to sell this thing put a 6 cylinder diesel in there.

Stop spouting ford propoganda please. The F-150 is NOT the #1 selling truck. Ford advertises that it is simply because the counters consider the Chevrolet/GMC trucks to be different. If you add up the numbers from both 1500 series versions you'll see that GM actually makes the #1 selling truck. Ford is #2 but plays upon this technicality in every commercial. Not that it really matters....

According to Ford there is a lot that is changed under the hood for the 2009 model, but then again we will just have to wait and see.
I'm not a fan of the Ford Edge looking headlights, but then again I think the new 250 headlights look butt ugly, but it's selling like hot cakes.
So I guess looks don't mean everything it's how well it performs in the truck world.

I think it is keeping in tune with Ford's philosophy. The F150 sells well and has made great improvements in their interiors, and quality.

The problem with Ford's philosophy is that it is "if it ain't broken, don't fix it."
The problem is that cars are not light switches or windows at your house, because if it is not broken now, it will be later. So you must constantly update and redevelop a product even if the competition is behind you for the moment, because if you let back a little, the competition will surge forward. Take a look at what happened in the 70s: American cars fell off the beat with their quality and mileage, and kept assuming customers wanted V8 power. So the competition brought out cheaper, better products. Whats the laws of something being both cheaper and better? People buy it.

from what I have heard , the 6.4L Twin Turbo Diesel is getting shoehorned in the engine bay of that new F150 . My question is , what is going to happen to F250 sales if this truck is already capable of towing 11,000lbs + , and costs A LOT less ? I think the sales will go F150 , 350 and 450 . 250 sales may go lower cause of the newfound capability of the F150. Maybe , maybe not , time will tell. Someone else's opinion maybe ?

There is no way in hell a 6.4 is going in a F-150. Other sites on the web say that it is a 4.4 L diesel that is a modified version of the 3.6L v8 rover diesel on sale right now in Europe. What about the dumping of the 4.6 and 5.4 gas engines. Now there will be a 5.2 and the new "boss" 6.2L gas engines. Probably to keep up with the competition. Also a standard will be 8 cyl. to 4 cyl. mode on the highway to save 1 or 2 mpg's.
