Mike M:

I'm not sure if this or the Evo X are worth what you pay for them (mainly the motor) but I do like the STi better than the Evo in terms of appearance. I also like the hatchback. I was getting tired of seeing the sedans (both Subaru and Mitsubishi) with the giant fins on the back. This gives a nice change and some practicality with a little more room. We'll have to see how they do in terms of performance and quality.

P.S. I'd definitely have my eyes open for aftermarket taillights though.

tgom:

I think is my next vehicle. I need 4 doors and I love the hatch for carrying my stuff or my dog. AWD+HP= point and shoot fun. I think the hatch is a really practical addition to a super fun car.

jcwbnimble:

Ok, is it just me or is the front end of this car just plain boring? The hood scoop is nice, but everything from the front hood line down is just plain boring vanilla looking. The grill looks like a big goofy grin, the lights look like something you would see on your Dad's Subaru, and the whole bumper lacks intensity.

I too am glad they moved away from the sedan with the huge trunk wing, but they need to soup up the front end of this hatchback.

Matt:

...It's definitely growing on me...

Sub:

Last time I checked, Subaru as of the 2006 or 07 model renamed "STi" to "STI."

Kyle:

God that car is UGLY!!! The only people who are going to buy that are the Die Hard Subie fans and people who like the hatchback! They will come back with the sedan in another year or two.

Alex:

... and this is going to be a hatchback at WHAT price level? They love making rice boys drool over debt.

Alex:

Travis:

Alex oh yeah Rice, because you know a car that will stomp a Mustang GT into the ground is obviously Rice, I think you are confused as to what a Ricer is.

22B:

I'm sorry. Whenever I see it, I think a Mazda 3 cheater on his girlfriend with a Civic Si and this is what happened.... do not want. Hatches/wagons are not sexy, if they were supercars would be hatchalicious. And on practicality, well they are more so than a coupe, better than a sedan, and only slightly taller than a wagon, either way they don't fulfill any role great. I mean a cargo van is handy, but a lot of people buy minivans instead.

AC:

Well I don't see what's wrong with hatches. If you look at the competition at WRC, most of them are hatches. So if you think hatches are not sporty... think again.

As far as the hood down looks vanilla, I think they have an optional alternative grille that looks like the old ones, black mesh with logo in the center, called the "Sports Grille".

As far as this STi is concerned, I think it's a good car, a bit mild in terms of looks compared to the EVO, but not nessarily for the worse. But seeing that the EVO is no longer a WRC car, I guess it's actually okay to step away at the Lancer's throat for a little bit and go a different way, like the rest of the WRC cars.

SVT:

@22B:

minivan? are you nuts? i'd rather take a death sentence than a minivan.... well maybe except that insane mid-engined Espace concept by Renault..

Cherie22984:

The tail lights on the silver dont look as bad as they do on the black STI

RX-7 guy:

Travis:

That is rice, just waiting for a loud exhaust and body kit. The only Jap cars that have shaken that term are the Supra, RX-7 and NXS. Some might argue that the 3000 GT and 300zx belongs in that group as well. The only thing is they're a bit fringe because most asian guys find them to ugly to drive.

John:

^^ you forgot Skyline

osh:

MEH nowhere near as good as the recently realesd mondeo in australia but then got peved off when the xr5 with leather seats and all like the top model isonly manual so peeved off i guesse ill buy a lexus IS250 or volvo s40

CKV:

Gross.....

By making the design mediocre Subaru is attempting to increase sales of the car to people who's idea of racing is taking a corner at 5 mph above the speed limit on their way to the supermarket....or Starbucks........or whatever suburban dream sequence you can think of.

The corporate decision makers at Subaru deserve to be "encouraged to enter early retirement."

Travis:

RX-7 Guy, First of all is NSX, Secondly this car is faster than a 3000 GT, or a 300ZX, both of which were rather overweight and slow. at around 3750 and 3600 lbs respectively. There is a reason the street racers ignored the 3000 GT and went straight for the Eclipse GSX with it's weight of 3100~3150 lbs.

Anyways a Ricer is a car that has a base engine, is wildly underpowered, and has tons of non functional body work to make it look "Fast" a lot of Ricers start out as a younger guys first decent car, the owner couldn't afford the good version like the RSX type S, or Civic Si, and they often can not afford performance mods, so instead they try to look fast by bolting on huge spoilers, wild body kits, bad paint, coffee can mufflers, and the like.

Anyways calling this ugly utilitarian little thing that is actually fast is ignorant. For the Record a Stock FD3S RX-7 had typical reported 0~60 times of 5.1~5.4 seconds add in the silly looking stock spoiler it came with and in both looks and speed it's more deserving to be called rice than the STi in these photos.

Also for the Record my List of top ever Japanese Sports Cars, looks more or less like this.

Lancer Evo (any)
FD3S RX-7
Nissan Skyline R34
Eclipse GSX (any)
Acura NSX
WRX STi or 22B
Toyota Supra MK IV
Toyota MR2 SW20

yes I left the Dodge Stealth/3000 GT VR-4 off the list, And the 300ZX, as well as the Subaru SVX, and tons of other cars like the 240Z and the 2000 GT, but this is my subjective list and I can put it any way I want. Also the 3000 GT/300ZX were more like touring cars than genuine sports cars, they were soft and heavy and not that fast even if they had really good engines.

next:

those pictures are of the STI that Japan and Europe will be getting

North America will be getting.

no Recaro sport seats.
15:1 vs 13:1 steering ratio (japan only)

no keyless access

next

Joe:

I love this new suzuki hatchback

zippy:

No pushbutton start!!!!!!!
LOL!
Like that is a feature!

SVT:

oh, come on you guys leave ugly Betty alone. after all underneath the mediocre exterior is a beast and this round of Evo vs. STi will be as usual decided on the track....

Polynikes:

That thing is ugly. The front end is OK, I guess, but what the hell are they doing making it a hatchback? Ew.

Mal:

The only good thing about this POS is that if i'm not mistaken they've changed the pink STi badges to red?
