More Photos of the All-New Nissan GT-R Unveiled Thanks to Inside Line

08.nissan.skyline.act.f34.500.jpg
Well today has been a fun day. This morning Motor Authority posted a scanned photo of the next issue of Motor Trend which has the all-new GT-R on the cover. Motor Trend is now requesting that those photos be taken down (see my previous post). AutoWeek also decided to post photos of the car, which you will have to check out on your own. Now Inside Line has jumped on the bandwagon and released their own official photos of the car.

Enjoy for now...until someone else says for us to take them down.

Thanks to Motor Trend we do know that the car reaches 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, the 1/4 mile in 11.7 seconds, a top speed of 192mph and costs less than $80,000.

Updated info:
According to Edmunds the new GT-R features a twin-turbo V6 engine with 473hp and 434 lb-ft of torque. All that power is put to the ground through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox dubbed the GR6 that sends power to all four wheels. A centrally mounted shifter or Infiniti-like paddle shifters can be used to shift the transmission.

Noya:

Better interior than the Z06.

Can you believe how cramped that engine bay is?

Luke:

Fast enough? They wern't kidding when they were aiming at the Porshe 911 range now where they. Guess I don't think you will need to modify this GTR. Stock standard will be eneough to kill you.

Can't wait until Nurbugring times come in. That will show real performace.

Enz0:

Nice specs.. I can hardly wait for Nismo or Z-Tune to put their hands on this "pudel". I didn't counted JUN in the gang... but we know what he did with GTR 34 Lemon... 1280hp and that car still works today without repairs.
I believe 600hp and 550lb of torque will be enough to beat veyron on 0-60 mph, maybe even on quarter mile

chris:

haha 600hp is not going to get a bugatti man. Thats a 1001 hp 4wd car that goes 253mph. good luck on a skyline catching that.

Sure it's fast, but for the price tag i'd rather go get me a C6 Zo6...

Chaser:

Well its finally here. The infamous GT-R. I lived in Japan for 8 years. I saw EVOs, GT-Rs and others that will probably never make it over here. The GT-R "Skyline" has been Nissan's true flagship of top, hardcore, performance.

I once was waiting at a stop light outside downtown Tokyo in an late model "Z". An older man pulled up next to me in a GT-R. When the light went green he ate me alive. We didn't even have to get up to 60 clicks.

Forget the 350Z, Nissan's real badboy is finally here.

CtK:

chris: Enz0 said it could beat the fugly ass bugatti to 60mph or maybe the 1/4 NOT top speed!!!! and you could buy 15 GT-Rs for the price of the piece of crap bugatti

NutZ:

Wow! This is one badass car...

This thing would easily beat a ZO6 fellas. I am not a fanboy or a vette hater but this car has more tricks than meets the eye. With it's super advanced AWD system, anti-lag turbo's and clutchless transmission this car makes a ZO6 or any other American car for that matter look downright stoneage. This car can actually get all of it's ponies to the ground under almost any circumstance and not waste a single one of them.

And it does all this with 4 seats and every other creature comfort you could possibly want. The ZO6 can't even play in the same league as that...So from this point forward enough of the ZO6 comparisons. Compare it to the car it was meant to be compared to, the 911 Turbo...

Jason:

This car couldn't totally beat the veyron unless it had a complete remake. Even if it had 1000hp, it would be gear limited to proabably less than 240mph. Swap out the gears, and the 0-60 and 1/4 mile would suffer. It couldn't beat it all around, but can beat it in either category. It definitely is beats it in the looks department though.

For those who say they would rather have a z06, think about the models. The zo6 is currently the top of the line corvette(don't count concepts, because they aren't available or garaunteed to be available). This is the base model Skyline GTR. We can expect to see an inhouse tuned version of the car given Nissans model plan for all it's other cars. Maybe a Vspec model, or even another Nurbugring edition. This car may not have as long a history as the corvette, but it has a much larger fan base. It will most likely take the bang-for-buck crown from the corvette.

Imma likin this thing a LOT :) Me so love this car *Yes, that was the me so ho**y voice... lol*
I had heard that Lotus actually did the suspension for this car, if thats the case, Im thinkin this car will slaughter just about any stock sports car on a track (exotic sports cars included)... It will have an excellent balance of power, weight distribution, and very little to no turbo lag which will account for quick outs on the corners.
If I had the money, Id be all over this thing the second it hits the showroom. lol They also did a pretty nice job on the interior, it looks pretty sleek :)

Jamison:

The fact that some of you are even mentioning this with the Veyron says how well Nissan has done...

A Veyron is simply not possible for 99% of us, the price is for seriously the richest people in the world or people rich enough and with passion with car collecting.

This my friend is Nissan's grand daddy. I've been a GTR fan for a very long time, and past GTRs are legendary, this one has potential... yet to see this with track times and actual driver impressions. The spec sheet is impressive.... they benchmarked against the Porsche... and Mission Accomplish. 40K less (USD anyways).

Japanese Supercar 2K style... now they just need to release the new Toyota "Supra" /replacement and Honda to release the "NSX" /replacement... the EVO X and STi are here... Japan 2K update would be on track.

Mike M:

Impressive car. Fills a lot of voids from the Corvette, and I think the Vette is a great automobile, in it's own right. In addition to what looks to be amazing performance right out of the box, this car is practical (back seats), and will likely have higher quality construction (less rattles, poor quality materials, smoother engine including sound, etc.). If I had the money I'd take one. It'd look even better slightly lowered.

Riley:

Is it just me or does this car have very similar traits to the RX8 in design (not styling)?

zzz:

Autoweek First Drive:
http://autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071017/FREE/71017001/1065

“After a full day driving it on the Nurburgring, the Autobahn and up and over numerous little German country roads we can easily say this is one car that was not over hyped. It is truly a world-class supercar on par with, if not just ahead of, the iconic Porsche Turbo. (They had a Porsche Turbo on hand, too, and we thought the GT-R felt better tied down.)”

“After "much spirited driving," we can say the Turbo had a good deal more lag and more dive and squat than the GT-R. But once the Porsche got spooled up, achtung, baby. It felt lighter and the steering felt quicker, too. The biggest difference between the two was that the Turbo demanded more of its driver while the GT-R was easier to handle, flatter and more stable. We'd be happy with either one, if you're considering a birthday present or anything.”

read it and weep Z06/911 Turbo

unknown:

It only has a 6.5k redline wtf is up with that the only one had a 7 and a 9.5

John:

Omg. Did anyone else notice that it's got the steering wheel on the wrong side? Who's getting fired for that mistake?

John:

That engine bay looks fantastic. It's not covered too much, you can actually see where the pistons are.

Chris:

Pistons? Uh no... I see what looks to be intake runners and cam sprocket covers...

Allen:

I just knew Chris would not give credit to a good car, I just knew it. Nevermind that its priced around the Z06, it has more performance, AWD and clutchless transmission, Chris would of course go with a Z06. Why? Because Chris is a fanboy who would not give credit to anything other than an American car.

Chris, you are an asshole and a waste of everyone's time. Go to the GM and Ford forums and leave real car lovers alone.

As to the rest of you:
John is right, that engine bay gives me wood.

Chris:

What are you talking about Allen? I'm a big fan of the R34 and have reserved my feelings or comments on this one until I know more about it or get to see more. So far I'm liking it though.

My comment was in response to the person who said he could "see where the pistons are", and it simply wouldn't surprise me if that was the mechanical aptitude of most of the posters on this site that think a higher red line and smaller displacement automatically makes a superior engine.

The 4th comment wasn't me btw. I'm the Chris with the '03 Cobra that goes out of his way to combat bias and stereotypes of any cars, not just American cars. I just find that this website and it's visitors often carry a lot of Euro-snobbery and anti-American bias, irregardless of the actual vehicle performance, so often it's American cars I am defending by consequence.

FYI I'd trade my Cobra for a R34... if only for the fact that I can always get another '03 Cobra in the states. R34s stateside are hard to come by.

I'd take this car over a Z06 for the same reasons I took my Cobra over a Z06:

1) probably extremely easy to modify and will blow away a Z06 with the same money invested (bottom end already forged, etc), just like the Cobra, Supra, R34, etc

2) A back seat. The times you are going to be out cruising, when you are going to want to be in this car the most, is going to be with your buddies out on Fri/Sat nights. No point in having your bad ass car sitting in the garage while you're sitting in the back seat your buddy's Sentra cruising the town...

Chris:

But just in case I wasn't clear, you cannot "see where the pistons are" in that photo. Those circular areas are where the cam sprockets are behind the front timing cover, and the stuff on top is just intake plumbing and intake manifold runners.

Chris:

Sure the Skyline has good numbers, probably handles well, and sure if I was looking into a car don't get me wrong i'd go to the dealership and try it and maybe it would win me over, but...

The car itself just looks like a 350z really with some new headlights, fender flares, and some ferrari/corvette looking lights instead of the old R34 style.

I'm not a fanboy of anything, for the price I would get a 505hp corvette and spend only a few $$$ to make it nasty,

Polynikes:

Looks like a cross between an R34 and a 350Z. The performance numbers are nice, though.

waffle911:

The car that really comes to mind as a competitor is the Audi R8. Also an AWD powerhouse to beat the snot out of Porsche. Also, the 911 turbo isn't a real comparison when price/performance is taken into account. Even though this would probably still beat it. This new GTR is cool and all, but I still like the looks of the R34 better.

longdxcommuter:

I agree with Waffle911 that this car will probably compete with an Audi R8. (similiar specs, AWD) Covette owners are very loyal and would not be the target audience. The potential buyer would have 1) the income to purchase, 2) some knowledge of the Japanese market Skyline and its history 3)an interest in the high tech features of this car. When the Subaru WRX was finally brought to this country, it was an immediate sales success due to the fact that there was a loyal and avid fan base in the US. The GT-R should have similiar success. (the price point not withstanding)

Sylvester:

I like the R34 beefy and powerful look better than this (what Chriss called) '350Z' variance.
It tooks away the masculine muscle part from the design and replaced by exotic trendy look.
Actually the design itself is quite nice and I like it...but it just not like the GTR I know and love...well I guess thats just a matter of my personal taste...

If I'll take this car, it's for the spec...I'll be waiting for drivers comments first.

Wayne:

Does the front end look like the Vanquish and Mitsubitchy kind of cluged together?
Nice looking car, and power, but I'll still stick to my 98 Trans-Am WS6. It's got all the speed I need, and if I need more, the mods are still cheaper than this car.

zzz:

R8 competes with the non turbo 911, the RS8 (V10 R8) will probably compete with the 911 turbo, GTR will already beat an R8 by prescedence. Top Gears episode on the R8 only got 0-60 in 4.5ish

Chris:

Some people aren't happy this only revs to 6500... what is the big deal with wanting weak engines that have to reve high to make power?

Those who want a high revving small engine and think that is the way to go, why don't you just stick one of these in your car and see how well it works...

www . osengines.com / engines / osmg2069.html

2.5 HP @ 35,000 RPM and .00346 L, it comes out to 722 HP/L, wow that must be the best engine in the world!!

Dave K:

Looks like a great value, excellent performance, competitive price, and available in the states (as opposed to previous versions).

I think it's pigeonholing to try to say it's competing with the Audi... or the Porsche for that matter. It appears CAPABLE of competing in both those categories, and in addition it's inexpensive enough to compete with the Z06. Although as far as the Z06 goes, contrary to popular opinion here... the Z06 is straight line faster based on it's published data (even to a tenth slower to 60 and slightly to significantly faster through the quarter), and handling has yet to be published. Under real world conditions though, AWD gives it a HUGE advantage when you're running street tires on unprepared (street) surfaces - and heck... you could drive it in the winter without sliding into a snow plow. For the AWD alone the car is going to get a pretty good boost on the "drivability" charts relative to the RWD options.

Overall, I think it's sure to be a big seller (at least in the price range it's working in), just the name alone has huge selling power.

John:

Ok, you don't actually see where the pistons are, but you guys know what I mean, its a very nice looking engine bay thats not cover with too much plastic.

Malcolm:

Yeah John, it was pretty obvious to everything what you meant, you don't need to reiterate it for people who're merely trying to pick a fight with you.

Having read the posts here, it appears that Chris likes to contrive ridiculous suggestions and feign ignorance in some sort of alpha male pissing contest, presumably to cover up some sort of deficiency in own life.

I'm glad that you're not letting his childishness spoil your enjoyment of either this site, or the news about the latest in a line of legendary cars.

Not totally sold on some of the styling touches, although the way the red lcd section on the tacho mimics a 'red zone', that's a nice touch.

mf:

@chris
Not all high revving engines are weak.

For example, a 2.4L That Revs to 19000 and makes about 700 HP

Trying to pass along the assumption that displacement is the only way to increase horsepower is misinformation at its finest.

Luke:

@mf

U have basically just listed an F1 engine and they are weak. Look how easily they blow up.

I'll take a low revving long lasting engine over a high revving thing.

That why in Australia out of all the the Hot Hatches available here I wouldn't get the Civic type R. I'd pick the 3mps, wrx, golf gti, renault megane r225, r26, astra VXR, SRi, Ford Focus XR5 aka ST225, etc,etc
I prefer my low revving torquey engines.

Chris:

mf:

"Trying to pass along the assumption that displacement is the only way to increase horsepower is misinformation at its finest."

Ditto with small displacements at high RPMS.

You've got to be kidding me if you think 19,000 RPM in a street car is desirable and something to strive for...

Again if you think so, then run your car on a model airplane engine. 2.5 HP @ 35,000 RPM and .0035L = ~700 HP/L after all.

Chris:

mf: so a 2.4L engine revving to 19,000 RPM can make 700 HP.

A 7.0L engine can make 700 HP revving to only 6,000 RPM.

What do you suppose happens when you build that 7.0L with the same kinds of materials as those F1 engines (titanium rods, bore > stroke, electromagnetic valves, etc)...

Whats that (7.0/2.4)*700 = 2041 HP at the same 19,000 RPM.

Displacement is limited in Formula 1 in order to RESTRICT POWER because otherwise there would be no limit and people would just get out of hand with more and more power until the person with the most money had the fastest car. Contrary to popular belief on this site, it's not because a smaller engine is better.

Do you seriously believe Ferrari would limit themselves to 2.4L if they were allowed to use 4.0L just because they can do it better with 2.4L? I don't think so... Everyone else is going to be using all 4.0L built the same way they built their 2.4L engines and Ferrari is going to machine their engines to get every bit of that 4000.00000000 CCs.

Man the cluelessness astounds me. You guys need to stop watching Top Gear and reading F1 magazines and playing Gran Turismo on your Playstations and go out and get a license and drive some real cars on real streets before you make comments about real cars, especially ones you can't afford.

Tony:

19000 rpm in a street car is prob not very practical. By dialing up that high you would have to move the torque band up also making it very undriveable especially in low engine speeds. You would be dropping the clutch from high revs for every take off from a light just to get some acceleration. Especially with a typical road transmissions flywheel. Useable power becomes limited to a narrow rev band.
However there are engines like the ones made by Spoon Sports for Hondas that rev to 12000rpm which are quite nice and are run in road cars. I think they even have a specialist engine that goes to 15000.

Anyone who is interested and doesnt know. HP is a product of Torque and Revs.

HP = Torque * Revs / 5252

Kingsley M:

Why does the front look like a mitsubishi?
