Hyundai has released the first official photo renderings of the automaker's upcoming rear-wheel-drive coupe.

The Concept Genesis Coupe that will eventually make it into production form is going to be officially unveiled in a few weeks at the LA Auto Show. We'll be there first hand to show you the photos.

It is rumored that the coupe is going to get the same 300+ horsepower V8 as the Genesis sedan as well as a V6.

SEALBoy:

That looks pretty good... a touch of 350Z in the rear perhaps, but on the whole it looks like a nice, aggresive sports car.

That looks pretty cool... a touch of 250Z in the rear perhaps, but on the whole it looks like a nice, aggressive sports car.

gm0n3y:

350ish back-end, Supra/Celica front end. But still, if Hyundai makes it fast and good quality, who cares if they rip off other cars. They've been stealing the best design characteristics of other cars for a while and it seems to be working out alright.

SEALBoy:

I see the 350Z in the rear, but a celica/supra in the front? Nah, I don't think so.

crawlgsx:

Still very similar to the Tiburon, They should keep the Tiburon name!!

Noya:

Why keep the Tiburon name?

The first thing I think of is mediocrity.

As for this "rendering", didn't we already have spyshots of an actual test mule a month or so back?

David:

That has about as much chance of getting built as a car from a bad sci-fi movie.

carluver:

Maybe some of us would look at Hyundai if they actually produced a decent performing car! Yes they have some V6's with descent technology and numbers, but its in a 3700lb car with a slush-o-matic. This would be the best thing for the company IMO. You don't think cars like the Mustang and Corvette do wonders for GM and Ford's image? They are icons of the company. Somehow an Azera doesn't make me think of cruising across California golden country feeling the wind on my balding head. ;-) Build it and give us a reason to take another look at Hyundai.

Steadler and Waldorff:

Congratulations! A micro-waved Tiburon.

Allen:

@David:
You mean the Prius? Your right, that car is definitely getting made.

mf:

Is this the korean version of the bat mobile?

A cartoon is even more useless than concept vehicles. The final product might come in the same color if you're lucky, that is about it.

Jason:

The current Tiburon(2007 update) is a really good looking car. I guess Hyundai went back to the italian design studio that did the generation remake and tapped them for an update. This car looks.. well... I think the current Tiburon is a step up from this design.

Here's a link if you haven't seen it yet on the road:

I'd say stick with this more classic coupe design, a radical design(made from chops of other cars) on a new car may not be the best marketing scheme sometimes.

dan:

give it these features, i'll be all over it...

6 cyl DOHC power, rear wheel drive, under 2700 lbs, independent suspension, manual 6 speed tranny, NO drive by wire crap...

come on automakers, i dare you...do something right for once! give us DRIVERS something worth buying! let the commuters eat their priuses!

Allen:

I like Dan's idea, but I also like a V8. Whats this leave us? Both.

I just pray to god this is not some 3300 pound car. I think cars should at least stay the same weight if not get lighter than their original versions (if we are doing sports cars and coupes: sedans and SUVs it almost makes sense to get bigger and bigger).

Kell:

Hmmm, let's see.

RWD Coupe
380 HP 4.6 liter V8 - if tuned like the Genesis sedan
Sleek design - similarities to other attractive cars, so?
Hyundai quality - JD Power rating up there with Lexus
Hyundai luxury - pretty darn good, go drive an Azera
Hyundai price - one of the few non-rapers out there

definitely catches my interest. I want a test drive ASAP.
