Honda is Going to Release Two New Hybrids...Finally a CRX Successor!

2007_honda_cr_z_concept_small.jpg
Honda is going to officially unveil the hybrid powered CR-Z concept at the Tokyo Auto Show this week (photos were unveiled two weeks ago). Now it is being rumored that Honda is going to put the vehicle into production in the next few years.

This is great news for anyone that ever loved the CRX two-seater, since the CR-Z appears to be a direct successor to the small car.

Honda is also working on another small hybrid that will slot below the Civic hybrid. Details about the car are scarce other than the fact that it will be able to carry a family comfortably. Test mules of the small hybrid have been caught and it appears that the final form may be a small wagon or five-door hatchback.

Gary:

I hate when companies release photos and specs for cars that won't be in production for "a few years". If it takes honda that long to release it, they'll probably be a "few years" too late.

Eddie:

^Agreed. All the nice cars we've been waiting for have been announced already, but we have to wait forever to actually get them. The new Toyota AE86 is brought to mind, because that is actually a car Toyota really needs. Granted, Honda can increase its sales by a lot by releasing this, but I was a CR-X fan as well
Back to the car, I was always reminded of the Maserati Quattroporte when I see this. Plus, that grille/headlight combo looks exactly like the one Mazda uses for most of its cars (especially the RX-8). But, if the price is right, and we see RWD (we can dream...) this could be a great competitor in the small car market... albeit a few years too late

enewmen:

Progress finally.

I wonder why Honda never liked the CRX ? I never undersood this. I am sure this CR-Z will be a little different that the concept photos, but I'll be happy if the basic idea gets released.

Boy, does that front look like a Volvo or not? Put a diagonal in it and you have tyhe 'softened-up' front the 2009 Volvo's.

Are we now all copying the drooping Audi chin?

Darmok:

The large grill seems completely unnecessary on a hybrid car. Stupid pushbutton transmission. Stupid looking gauge cluster. Overall it's a good idea though, just needs some detail changes.

Kell:

I like the overall shape and the efficient/cool LED lighting. I would trade the front grill for a more aerodynamic nosecone. The interior seems open and upscale, which is nice in a little car. I want to see the performance and weight numbers. I'm tired of waiting for a good sport-hybrid! And no, the Lexus 430H does not count; that thing is a rolling conundrum.

longdxcommuter:

I hope Honda produces this. This is what the Insight should have been. Honda had a perfect opportunity to replace the CRX with the Insight (efficient 2 seat sporty car). However, the Insight was too wacky and slow to follow the CRX. The CR-Z will come almost 15-18years after the last CRX.
