PRESS RELEASE:

Honda Access America, Inc., Honda's U.S. accessory development team designed and built the HF-S Concept to demonstrate how the customized use of technology could allow vehicle owners to fine-tune performance while adding their own senses of style. Key exterior and conceptual powertrain modifications represent functional performance and driving-experience enhancements.

Unique LED driving lights, placed on the fore-most corners, wrap around the front of the bumper providing increased visibility both forward and side for the driver while also creating a unique appearance. The shape of the front bumper is designed to create a vortex effect to enhance high-speed aerodynamics and engine cooling. On the sides of the vehicle, the shape of the carbon fiber panels decreases negative speed force around the wheel arches. The rear bumper diffuser is designed to reduce drag. The trunk spoiler is a prototype design engineered for high-speed down-force. The metallic color of the exterior is accented by Cadmium Orange Pearl - a color derived from super-heated metal. The use of this color for the brake calipers, badges, grille accent, and interior details underscores the vehicle's high-performance appearance.

Key to the concept is the use of technology to electronically customize throttle response, suspension settings, steering boost, and traction involvement to the driver's taste. Additionally, the exhaust is a two-stage design. It is engineered to be exceptionally quiet during relaxed cruising, and provide elevated levels of performance in high performance driving situations.

John:

The rear lights, body kit and rims are a nice sight.

mf:

I just can't take hood lines that come up higher than the belt line.

Bliss:

The hood line probably comes up that high for pedestrian safety or whatnot, right? It doesn't seem to offset the proportions or anything, I think at least.

Aaron:

Errmm, what engine does it have??

Steadler and Waldorff:

boring, boring, boring

Dan:

i like the look.

i'm sure the mechanical specs & features will make me puke though...drive by wire, curb weight over 10,000 lbs, FWD, 90/10 F/R weight distribution...oh yeah, and cram it full of stupid electronics to distract the driver. don't forget to have all of these electronics to cease functioning right after the warrantee expires.

sigh.

Darmok:

"Errmm, what engine does it have??"

Irrelevant as long as it's DOHC and VTEC!!!11!!

Z:

Those exhaust ports got to go.. WTH is Honda doing nowadays :( Getting more and more americanized/germanized in their design and electronics/gadgets approach.

Gone are the good old days when Honda was the only brand for the people who actually enjoy driving a car instead of riding one.

Just look at the latest Type-R Civic and compare it to the first generation CTR. The idea of a low weight/hp ratio is totally gone.

If I wanted something that Honda is TRYING to make nowadays, I'd just buy a BMW, since they've been making cars like this since day 1 with RWD.

/miss the ol'school Honda thinking.

CS:

Body lines are similiar to an Audi TT or 350Z. Nice looking Honda!

Brian:

And what exactly can you customize on this thing? Do you Sat/Nav or not? I mean really, we passed the era of being able to customize a car as you see fit oh about 40 years ago. Can you walk into a dealer and get a basic car with a tach, well not unless that is part of performance package B (which comes with 50 other things I could care less about). A big difference between say an Acrua TL and a Camry, is the Camry has lots of options (which gives it a larger price range). A completely loaded Camry or Accord would be slightly more comparable to a TL than a stock 4 banger. Where as the TL only starts with most of it's options. The same can be said for BMW and Mercedes. The whole idea of changing the ride and drive characterisitcs bothers me to no end. You just don't push a button and make the suspension tighter without alot of gizmos and electronics. Go ahead add some stability control with electronically dampened shocks/struts. That's not a problem they are only 4x more expensive to replace, but who cares! Like several people have mentioned on here before, the VAST majority of people drive basic/economy/standard/tin can cars. Make them simple, easy to use, and reliable. Something that Honda and Toyota used to do.

Carnut57:

Nice looking car (less those god awful exhaust cut outs.) Problem is too much crap being loaded in there. I don't need my seats heated and cooled, air conditioned cup holders, enough electronics to run a wire from LA to Boston, oh and don't forget the close to 2 TON chassis weight. This car is a 2dr. coupe unless my eyes are really bad. Why the need for such bloat? You are right they are becoming more and more of an American auto company every year where weight doesn't matter. Can you say Shelby GT500?

Shave 500 lbs of it and see what that 270hp V6 can really do.

Higelac:

The Chinese could make a killing if they sent us a cheap, VERY basic, low-tech car. Kinda like what Japanese subcompacts used to be in the 70's. Cars currently available are getting way too refined. Even the Yaris/Fit/Versa are way too nice! (What's the point of those cars anyway? They get the same mileage as the bigger cars, maybe +1 MPG --- WTF?) I want a car where you can see all the screws holding stuff together. No sound deadener. Reliability can be perhaps a little subpar but make it easy to work on. Look at all the VW bugs still running around! They are not so reliable, but you can pull the engine out by yourself and rebuild it on your coffee table. Give me an engine, stick shift, and four wheels and nothing more! A stretch, but think of A-10 Warthog vs. F-22 Raptor and apply that philosophy to cars...

von GT:

I'm the type of buyer who will NEVER buy a japanese car, but that accord appeals to me. When I look at the 08 accord it doesnt look anything like the HF-S. All current Hondas are ugly.

Back in the late 80's or early 90's there was a Honda Prelude HS (I think) that appealed to me but the car's value didn't match the price tag.

I have my reasons for being a hater, take ANY side impact above 40 mph and YOU ARE DEAD. The only exclusion would be minivan they make.

Gary:

That thing actually looks pretty good, I may even consider replacing my Integra with one of these.

@ Brian "I mean really, we passed the era of being able to customize a car as you see fit oh about 40 years ago."

So you're saying you don't want to be able to customize your car? If so, that's a pretty dumb comment.

The design looks very doable. It is not so exotic that it can not be produced(?). It is very nice design.

Brian:

@Gary So you're saying you don't want to be able to customize your car? If so, that's a pretty dumb comment.

No, I'm saying car companies talk about options and how you can customize this for a personal feel, but they give you little to change.

Here's an example. Pop over to BMW's usa site and configure a 335i coupe, a fairly higher end car (for the average person).

Outside of the basics: color, interior, wheels. The options are limited to what type of more electronic gizmos do you need: power sun shade, sat/nav, adaptive cruise control, heated seats, a premium package with bluetooth, park assist, ect..

Now I will give you the steptronic, paddle shifters, and sport package are all excellent options. Real options that you will actively use when driving.

Now I know this is a fairly high end car and a lot of options are standard, but as you go up the food chain things only get worse. As you go down things become more packaged. You want a tach on a base car, well that only comes with the sport package that's $2000 (which also has a spoiler and ground effects). These are all examples, from hearing my parents talk about buying cars in the 50's, 60's, and 70's options were simply that. You selected what you wanted and the dealer either put it in, or it was ordered from the factory.

I agree with everyone else give me a car, 4 wheels, engine, and instruments. I'd be happy. Of course I do own a 77 VW bug so there you go.

John:

The front looks like a Pontiac G6 and the rear looks like a Toyota Solara.

A mutt car....phooey...

Darmok:

Why does the 6 cylinder Accord get such poor MPG? 19/29 is not very good for an engine this small. It's supposed to be efficient.

Allen:

Remember, we're on the more accurate 08 ratings now Darmok.

I still think the Honda will probably get more like 24 mpg city if not better, but only because Honda drivers tend to be more conservative with the gas pedal than a "usual" driver the EPA dreams up.

shiftright:

It is a shame that Honda, the once F1 Champions of the world have been reduced to having this as their sole "sports" car for 2009 when the little S2000 bites the dust.

This prelude with the added do-dads is nothing more than a typical Honda people hauler with a refined but boring personality, a secretary's car, a front engine hodge podge of various angles and shapes. A forgettable car that is boring even before it is a few months old.

Honda is dead.......................................

zippy:

Like I give two farts about F1 and what kind of race car Honda has in the stable.
I mean seriously, I want reliable everyday transportation and they make that just about better than anyone else.
Why would anyone who hates what Honda is, care what they make?
Christ, go buy a Cavalier Turbo, or whatever that piece of crap is further down the page a ways.

john:

Carbon Fiber....mmmmmm.....

Hunter:

They should really try to bring that thing alive, I think honda really needs a new sports car or something that is fast and sporty/mid size.

Kell:

It's not a bad looking car, but it's kind of plain these days. No performance specs. Bah.

I'm sure it would be very reliable, but if you're going to spend a premium on this sports upgrade model, it has to perform. Which brings us to price. This car will be in the neighborhood of 40K, I'll bet. In that price range, it better be more than just eye candy.

Darmok:

"It is a shame that Honda, the once F1 Champions of the world have been reduced to having this as their sole "sports" car for 2009 when the little S2000 bites the dust."

It's not really Honda that was F1 champion. It was more McLaren. Honda just made an engine. The complete Honda and Toyota cars haven't done very well at all in F1.

nofubu:

Personalized Accord.

The people who drives the Accord today probably does not care about personalized features and mods. They are too busy with their life and family.

Maybe Honda is targeting the Civic drivers who is now growing up.

zaid irshaid:

what is the weight of the Honda accord HF-S , and what is the engin specification would be ????????

if any one know please let me know ,

thanks
