Ford, GM and Chrysler Sales Fall in September

big_3_logos.jpg
According to a new analyst report by Goldman Sachs the "Big 3" all had sales declines last month.

The auto industry as a whole is being hurt by the sub-prime housing issues with sales this year being the lowest in years. According to the report GM sales declined 3 percent, Ford 16 percent and Chrysler sales dropped 7 percent compared to September 2006.

On the other end of the spectrum, Honda is expected to post a 16 percent increase and Nissan is expected to have a 3 percent increase in sales last month. Toyota on the other hand expects sales to be flat or slightly down compared to the record month they had last year.

You can expect the official details to come out in the next few days as automakers report their final sales for last month.

Wow, big suprise (sarcasm)...

...on another note, what happened with GM placing Accords and Camrys in their showrooms? How did that work out?

Allen:

Obviously not to well....

Remy LeBeau:

.........haven't their sales been falling for like 30 years now?

"what happened with GM placing Accords and Camrys in their showrooms? How did that work out?"

Well, I think they realized that putting a foreign car that is similar except with better fit and finish, better mpg, and a lower price next to their product was a bad idea.....

Diesel:

Well, what do you think it happened. The sales of the US makers fell but the sales of the dealers grew because they sold a lot of the Accords and Camrys...

Eddie:

I'm sorry, which Big 3? The only Big 3 I know of are Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. Always have been, always will be

RETNIAP:

Japanese cars = quality
American cars = .........
Toyota profit applyed on the cars to be even more good quality.
American cars company profit? went to the pocket of idiot managers.
Someone have to loose, GM,F, Chr.

RETNIAP:

GM put Accord and Camry for "SALE" at their showroom!!!
If you can't fight against japs, help them.

Diesel:

And I mean sales of US dealers of US makers which had Camrys and Accords on display. I am sure most customers in the end wanted to buy the Camry or Accord from them.

Steadler and Waldorff:

its those matt door handles for the new Focus

>> what happened with GM placing Accords and Camrys in their (Saturn) showrooms?

Well, midgets and trailer-park-teens dug the Aura's low slung roof and giant chrome wheels, but those not vertically challenged, and adults with real sensibilities, preferred the Camry due to it's better ingress\egress and superior fuel economy.

In fact, both Accord and Camry sales have INCREASED since that showroom campaign, with each outselling the Aura 7 to 1.

Hmmm.

JoMiN:

Why doesn't US's big 3 learn from the imports instead of trying to out perform, out style, and just out do the imports. Start looking forward in design and technology (lighter weight, hybrid, handling). Bigger isn't always better. And quit worrying about the "other guy."

Bob:

How about you people stop bashing GM? Solstice GXP anyone? Corvette? The new trucks? Torrent GXP/Equinox Sport? HHR SS? What do Toyota, Honda, and Nissan have to offer? BORING PIECES OF SHI- CRAP.

GM, and Ford and Chrysler, are all being screwed. They pay pension plans, health plans, and every other type of plan to benefit their workers. Why don't Toyota, Nissan, or Honda (and every other Korean/Japanese make)? Oh, wait, they pay people crap over in their respective countries to make their cars then import them.

Rob:

How about all those Dodge Rams with cracked dashboards...(my 2003 did it at 32,000 miles)..and chrysler will not honor the warranty....I now have a Tundra..
