First Official Pic of the All-New 2008 Nissan GT-R Released?

nissangtrtease_1_560.jpg
Is this the first official photo of the new Nissan GT-R? The Nissan supercar is going to be unveiled later this month and CAR has posted this first photo of the side profile of the GT-R.

We've seen several spy photos and even versions of how the car is going to look in Gran Turismo 5, but is this actually a real photo?

In a mere two weeks we'll now for sure. For now just enjoy it and save your hard earned money.

hehe:

Badazz car! Can't wait to see in person.

BTW... "In a mere two weeks we'll now for sure"? No proofreading of this article?

Dan:

beautiful car, but my previous dismay remains:

no stick shift

***scratches the new GTR off of the wish list***

Allen:

Dan
If you'd like to buy one still, I'll take it off your hands for you.

Eventually I can see stick shifts becoming obsolete altogether, as some of todays best automatics shift quicker than the best manuals. It will take some time still to get a car to accurately get the right gear for every situation: I've yet to find an automatic that will hold the right gear for a power slide.

John:

I hope they'll come out with a stickshift since everyone is asking for one. If not in 2008, then maybe in 2009 they'll release a manual version.

Red Knight:

I think I'll stick with my R-32. The new GT-R is just ugly, expensive, and just goes about making power all wrong. 3.8L TT V6. Bah I'll stick with my 2.6L TT I6.

dave:

60,000 euro WOWOW!!! that is almost 85,000 usd that is very price. considering the japs are only going to have to pay 1/2 that

Al V:

Overly hyped and over-priced! Meh. I'll take an M3 or RS4 above this anyday.

John:

It'll also beat an M3 or RS4 around the track, or on a straight, any day.

Luk1e:

LoL @ That ^^^

Rangoon:

I'm sorry, but this car does not look that good. I know that the Gran Turismo fanboys all over the world, that never had the opportunity to actually see a GT-R in person think it's the car to end all cars, but it isn't.

Looks like an updated 350Z with different taillights....

Mike M:

To be honest, I like the side profile of this car. Too many cars coming out now are too conservative in styling. It also isn't entirely fair to compare it to the M3 or RS4. Those are basically just mods to existing sedans/"sport" coupes...though they don't look sporty. The M3 will have a great motor, but when you look at it it looks awfully plain. Some may like the "wolf in sheep's clothing" look, but not when paying that much. That is only appropriate for modified econoboxes like the Nissan SE-R Spec V, Honda Civic, etc. The Nissan GT-R is a sports car, and it is about time the Japanese started to bring them back. You can say it is a modified 350Z or G35/37, but at least it is a modified "sports car." If I had the money I'd love to have it instead of an M3...sometimes being the new kid on the block with something is nice. We'll just have to wait and see what it looks like in a few weeks, and how it performs.

Al V:

It also looks like the chopped the greenhouse off a Dodge Dakota and gave it the roof off the new Toyota Supra concept. Add another meh to my first one.

unknown:

Thats the point of the m3 is to not be so flashy that you know what it is. The gtr is very 350 ish in styling as to make it boring, as well as the car is very heavy. Not having a stick is a killer as sequentials are never as strong as a regular stick shift, I can just imagine the warrenty claims this thing is gonna have.

RX-7 guy:

So who is the target market? It's very boy racer looking but cost an arm and a leg. I don't think the Porsche crowd will be jumping ship. For that matter I can't see many German buying a Japanese car.

After all the dealership mark ups it will be the price of a Z06 which wont have to work up a sweat to spank it.

John:

^^^ Thats an interesting question. The GTR has never been sold in NA so maybe buyers don't know what it is. Most of the Porsche/BMW guys probably don't even know Japan has a super car. It'll be interesting to see some on the road, I'll pick one up in 2010 once they iron out a few kinks and drop in a manual(hopefully).

Sphere:

How's the electronics of this car? As good at putting power to the ground, fascinating dynamics and more innovating as the previous generation (who was decades ahead of the competition? If so, count me in...If not, count me out.

ex KGB:

A real man drives stick shift, automatics are for women.

Great car, i hope it comes to US this time.

Al V:

Hi John:
"Most of the Porsche/BMW guys probably don't even know Japan has a super car. "

Acura did quite well with the NSX, which was apparently a joy to drive and profitable enough to keep around for so long. But you are right when you say getting BMW buyers to pick one up will be like pulling teeth. German car buyers pass on aggressive styling in favor of more subdued and understated touches.

CtK:

DAMN some of you guys have great imagination!! Looks like a 350z?? a dakota(thats a freakin truck!!)?? The GT-R will destroy the M3 and RS4, Nissan wanted it to compete against a $120K Porsche Turbo!! The official price starts at $66K.

Jamison:

Yeah this is above an M3 in terms of performance, M3s are great cars, everyday performance luxuries. Love em.

But this is benchmarked against a Porsche 911 Turbo and did quiet well.

Always been a Skyline GTR fan, but I live in Oz, currently in US. And the retail price of this in OZ is ging to be in the 150K range... Might have to go Japan, live for a year and then bring back one home :-)

zzz:

new M3 will probably cost low-mid 60s, why the heck would I get an M3 if the the GTR is going to be around 68k. And someone said the GTR is overpriced, sounds like the M3 is overpriced to me.

gm0n3y:

I can't wait to see this car in person and on the street. I'd still take an R34 over this though (if they sold them in Canada). They were cheaper and (I believe) lighter and of course came with a stick shift.

John:

R34's will be easy to get into Canada in 7 years LOL. I was able to import a 1991 R32 b/c it was over 15 years old. R34's can be bought but they are prohibitively expensive.

DblA:

"After all the dealership mark ups it will be the price of a Z06 which wont have to work up a sweat to spank it."

Really...the Z06 0-60 time is 3.7 and the 1/4 mile is 11.9. The "slipped" info from the next Motor Trend shows the GTR at 0-60 in 3.4 and 1/4 mile in 11.7.
