On October 16th the Transformers DVD will finally hit stores. It is being reported that GM is taking part in this release by holding a sweepstakes where three lucky buyers will win a 2009 Chevrolet Camaro.

The DVD will include an insert with a special web address where buyers can sign up for marketing stuff and enter to win one of the three Camaros that will look like the BumbleBee Autobot from the movie.

Sorry the sweepstakes is only open to legal residents of the US and Canada that are over 18.

dennisil:

movie was sweet but chevy is still far from potentially being in my garage. besides the first one of these i see with a v6 and cheap wheels not- 20" will break the perception that this thing is cool.

David:

Oh I'll be buying this DVD. Sure its a remote chance of winning but daddy needs a new Camaro. It better be a V8 one, not just a V6 with a paint job and wheels.

The movie was excellent too.

Polynikes:

Isn't it a law that sweepstakes like this have to be free of charge? Like when they announce any sweepstakes on the radio they always have to have the fast-talking guy say "No purchase required" or something to that effect? I think I'll save my $20 and get the URL from someone else. :P

As for the car, I'd drive it a bit to see what it was like, but I'd auction it off before long and buy a Corvette, or beef up the old retirement fund.

Scotty:

...Yet another niche-market vehicle produced by the north american automakers in an effort to grab the sales of some relatively small demographic...

But don't get me wrong, it's a cool looking car, and i'm sure it's got a lot going for it. Like dennisil said though, once you see everyone driving one of the cheapo-wheels V6 version, it will kinda ruin the whole experience.

Sphere:

Yeah, the chep versions will ruin the experience. Just take a look at the base Chryler 300, such a large car with skinny tyres, it looks so odd from behind. Not cool.

David:

Unlike the Mustang, a much larger majority of Camaro buyers go for the V8 model. The Mustang is a womans car. Thats what it was designed to be and still remains today. Hence they buy V6s since they just care about the look.

Camaro owners actually love their cars. And want something with power. Thats not to say the V8 model will outsell the V6, this will never happen with a car. But the percentage buying the V8 model will be greater.

Noya:

How much did GM pay to have all the Autobots look like GM vehicles? No less they were all niche models, real good marketing there.

And if I remember correctly, wasn't every car in the movie a domestic?

Allen:

I'm buying the movie as I did not see it in theaters, but if I win the car I'll just sell it and buy a Camry.

Dave:

Agreed to what Scotty said. Definately a cool redo, but the Camaro is a textbook example of what's wrong with GM.

They're re-making a once-popular car for an insignificant demographic, in what will result in insignificant sales. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a whole lot of people in the key demographic (under 20-45) who care about Camaros. Sure, there will be lots of Camaro fans, but the muscle car market is starting to age a bit. Let's face to, to be driving cars in the muscle car era (60's, 70's), you'd be getting on 40 to 50 now. And again, it represents such a small portion of sales in the first place.

As with the upcoming Malibu, GM needs to stop wasting it's time with small niche markets and needs to start attacking the core markets and core cars classes (Civic/Mazda3, Camry/Accord, Corolla, Prius, etc).

Andrew:

GM is on the right track. They need to show "new" cool so people will preceive them as such.

There are going to be older generations that will bring out their 60/70s based version to show off like the younger crowd this is geared toward.

The Cobalt is a nice looking car and it has leather optional. But the sedan version needs some more work.

The new Malibu is nice looking inside and out.

Impala needs to be reworked. Very cheap interior and options.

GM needs to rethink Bluetooth options in their car line. I just purchased another Honda and at least their low end car can "have" bluetooth.

In the end guys, this is just a movie. And a very expensive movie at that.

wes:

David, do you have any facts backing up your claims or is it just your opinion? Just because people buy mustangs doesn't mean they don't care about the vehicle. And just because someone buys a Camaro doesn't mean they care about it any more than any other car they would buy.

I personally wouldn't buy one until it's proven that they aren't junk like the old ones. If the quality was greatly increased over the last line of Camaro's then it would get consideration but not until then.

RX-7 guy:

That new Camaro is pretty sexy and will sell like mad. Unlike Ford GM's V8 wont need supercharging to go fast. The Mopar offering would be nice but at nearly 2 ton isn't going to be nearly as fun.

wes:

The Mustang holds it's own against the older SS camaros with out "supercharging". Might want to go surf the net for the facts.

Staedler and Waldorff:

How desparate can you get?

zippy:

Once my mullet is grown in nicely, I am picking one of these up.

Rachel:

What are the chances of winning if usually sweepstakes are void in Puerto Rico? are we not part of the U.S? I wanna a chevy camaro.;)

flabb:

wow the new comaro looks like some Japanese crap. i mean seriously ford got the styling right when it came to the new mustang. look at the tail lights it screams corvette. And if u think the new SuperCobra is a ladies car that has about 600 to 700Hp then u are seriuosly on something because i don't see a Comaro pumping out anything close to that, much less some of the corvettes.
