Andrew:

I use to know someone that was infatuated over this Nissan branded car a few years ago. I don’t know what the hype is about this car since it looks like any other Nissan out there. Alright, this car maybe fast, but where would you drive this car, bedsides the track, legally on the street without the temptation of going super fast?

Also, Nissan is going to charge around $80,000.00 for this car?? A Nissan for God’s sake…. Badge this car as an Infinite and maybe there will be a chance.

This car falls under the same boat the S2000 fall under. An over priced eco-brand Car Company.

Unfortunately I know I will be seeing these cars racing down neighborhood streets at ridiculous speeds. And people trying to perform that they see on Fast and Furious movies.

This car ranks up there with the Apple iPhone. All hype no features….

99BlackGT-R:

Andrew.. i'm sure you are just jealous that you can't afford one. $80k OMG sooooo expensive, who will buy it?! Then go on to say that you will see these cars racing down the streets like Fast and Furious? Get real.. next time you drive around a real city.. which i'm sure you live in a little cow town.. take not of all the BMW, Mercedes, CORVETTES, Lexus and such.. most of the descent cars out there are 50k +. Plus why would you actually make this an Infinity? ITS A SKYLINE GT-R.. hello.. the name has a long history..

Mike:

"This car falls under the same boat the S2000 fall under. An over priced eco-brand Car Company."

I don't think so. I drive my S as a daily driver...and on the road courses out here in California. I must say it is worth every penny. It is a great roadster that is highly predictable and enough oomph to get you around the track, with a top notch transmission(that serves as a benchmark for many other cars!) and suspension. Not to mention the the car is light, and is fun for those warm days with the top down! I have driven 2 cars in this price area..my S and the STi..both great cars with their own qualities that I love.

Mike:

"ITS A SKYLINE GT-R.. hello.. the name has a long history.."

agreed. If he knows anything about the car's or comany's heritage...In Japan there is no Infinity...Lexus..or what not..Only in the US do we have these "luxury brands" because the US people are superficial. It was always a NISSAN SKYLINE GT-R and always will be. I can't afford it, but look forward to seeing one :)

Honda Twothousand:

Realistically, the people who can afford a car of this price and calibur are not the kind of people who go driving them at high speeds around neighborhoods. When is the last time you saw someone in a Z06, S class Merc, or M5 driving like a tool through your hood?

Let me state my opinion, which is like an ahole. It's a Nissan. Always has been, since 1957 (the ASLI-1). It became the GT-R in 1969 (still a Nissan). Infiniti is a luxury car line for Nissan, not a price line. Sports cars are nothing new for Nissan, having the Z for 30+ years (I owned an 04 350Z, phenominal vehicle), and the Skyline series. Hate all you want, but they make great sports cars.

The GT-R will have a great market in the US, but I think the price point will keep a lot of non-cult buyers from considering it. Sitting next to a C6-Z06, most people with that much cash to spend on a car are going to choose American styling, and the American name.

zzz:

yea to anyone crying about 80k for a nissan, guess what the next Z06 is around that much for a chevy. Under 80k to defeat a 911 turbo which costs 120k+, yum

Matt:

Andrew, first of all, this car is ABSOLUTELY NOT in the same class as the S2000, it's in another universe. Did you see the specs?? This is supercar fast (ferrari, lambo, etc.) for a fraction of the price. Plus it's not just going to be fast in a straight line, it will undoubtedly have amazing handling as well.

Now onto why this car is so important to so many people.

This car is the reincarnation of the legendary Nissan Skyline (the Skyline GTR was the all wheel drive 2.6L twin turbo version). A car that was created specifically for the track (Japanese Grand Touring Championship), dominated the field, and was also sold to the public. The only problem was that it was never sold in the US, so we were left with wimpy cars like the 300ZX (wimpy in comparison to the Skyline that is). I will grant you that this has increased the hype a great deal here in the US but trust me, having ridden in many Skylines and worked on Skyline engines in the performance import scene the hype is well deserved. The Skyline was discontinued in 2002 and ever since there were rumors that it would come back at some point and might actually come to the US. Now that it has come true many, MANY people who have wanted a Skyline for so many years can actually get one....LEGALLY.

As to the reason that they did not put an Infiniti badge on it, easy, this is a car that is less about luxury and more about pure performance. It was a wise choice to leave it as a Nissan, releasing it as an Infiniti would have alienated some of the people who this car will be specifically marketed to. It will also probably be a huge hit with the aftermarket performance crowd as the original Skylines were, and being a Nissan lends itself better to that as well. The old cars could reach 1,000 horsepower on the stock block, i'm excited to see what tuners end up getting out of the new GTR.

This car was greatly anticipated by those who were familiar with the old Skylines. If you didn't know about them I can see why all of this would seem a bit over the top. Everyone has been waiting to see what Nissan would do and if they would do this car right and the exciting part is that it looks like they definitely have.

I think I'm gonna start saving for one right now.

zippy:

Hey Andrew, isn't your axe sharp yet???

Chick0n:

LOL ! ANDREW ! ROFL HAHAHAHAHAHA

What kind of moron are you ????

Do you even know whats a GT-R and what kind of history it had ? LOL !!!!!

Dont talk about stuff that you dont know shit about. you just gonna embarrass yourself.

John:

Did anyone bother to look @ the specs?? 3.5 0-60mi/h, 11.7 for the 1/4 mile. Those specs are crazy! I was expecting the GT-R to come in mid to low 4s for the 0-60 and mid 12's for the 1/4 mile. DAM, its fast.

dennis:

The Return of NISMO

JeTTTo:

omg LMAO ANDREW is so lost in his world... keep riding your bicycle man...!!!!

3.5sec and 11sec
thats a killing machine.. and for under 80k....
at that price im pretty sure the car will be incredible...!

corvette is bullshit... but its good for the average american especially for the price... remember ...its not cheap for nothing ...

Allen:

To the guy who said $80,000 for a Nissan was to much, one you obviously no nothing about this cars legacy: it was beating Ferrari's around the Nuremburgring before the C6 Z06 was even conceptualized. Second it has a MASSIVE fan following.

Third, people are willing to pay $70,000 for a Corvette Z06, or up to $50,000 for a Chevrolet Suburban. And both of those are from an entry level car company.

$80,000 for a pure-bred race car? Thats a steal.

MBW:

You can buy a $30,000, spend $10,000 in mods and reach this performance. ....with $40 to spare. I think the R34 and R33's have better styling. But cool nontheless. I'm sure my will turn when I see one on the highway in person.

Sabby:

To me, the car looks like a hopped up 350z, and not worth the price of $80k. Now, the performance may be worth $80k, but I'm someone who needs the looks too.

IMO, C6 Z06 & Viper both own this car in the looks department. As for performance, the differences are negligible.

p.s. This car would be an awesome sleeper.

jamison:

Seriously... the only thing questionable is the styling...

You cannot win everyone over there... some love it... some hate it...

I personally think the Corvette looks average... so am I wrong?... no.. its personal preference...

i think this looks mighty fine..

also, I'm in the automotive engineerinf industry... and all we engineers have nothing but praise for Nissan for this car.... its pretty much a Porsche Beater for 40K less.... the 911 Turbo is a fine fine car... but usually driven by those people who think they own the road... same as Ferrari owners... Imagine getting beat by a "Nissan".... mind you Nissan is actually a very good car manufacturer...

Allen:

The top end GTR has more power, 50/50 weight distribution in addition to roughly the same weight, and AWD.

It will eat Corvettes alive. As it will most Vipers, Gallardos, DB9s, and 360 Modenas.

John:

I like the overall styling of this car. I do admit it looks a little bit chunky from the pictures compared to a 911 but those performance figures say this car is much more than it looks.

scott:

It looks like the love child from an Aston Martin Vanquish and a Jaguar XK.

I'm not in love with the headlights either. Not sure if the pic from Motor Trend is deceiving, but the headlights look like they run halfway up the front end.

D!:

The from air dam kinda looks similar to the new EVO but I'm glad they finally redid the car

Andrew: you fucked with that post. The skyline is a great car with a very long history. Regardless of the price, it can't be an infiniti, that'd kill the car completely. I'll probably never own one but I can't wait to see it in person either on the street, at a drift show, or on the track.

Gary:

With those performance stats I think I could look past the no manual transmission complaint. That thing is just plain FAST!

I'd rather take that over a Chevette Z06, I mean Corvette Z06 any day.

osh:

Il ove it hough i actuall y prefered the com gen with the air intkes as part of the lights

longdxcommuter:

The GT-R should absolutely be badged as a Nissan. As an earlier post stated, the Skylines were dedicated to performance and handling. They were not luxury cars, they were designed to maximize performance and serve as a test bed for Nissan engineering. The same engineering that filters to their lesser models. Nissan's have always been driver centric with the Skyline being the pinnacle of that mantra. $80K is a lot of money for a car (any car for that matter), but a new Corvette is in the $50-65K (or more) arena and they sell well ( despite being sold in a Chevrolet dealer next to Aveos) I just hope the US version does not lose that focus to appeal to the boulavard cruiser set.

Eddie:

Imagine this car in black. Mmm mmm...

John:

Get this car on the ring....QUICKLY!

RETNIAP:

Don't keep crying out loud !!!
This car is not for who WANTS to, this car is for who CAN buy !!!
Be happy and buy one.

Mike:

Matt : Well said!

Travis:

It's a bit ugly but ehhh, 3.5 seconds and 11.7 seconds speak for themselfs. Shame Nissan is a crappy car manufacture, I own one, and I loath it, more than a dozen work orders on it in the first year? something like 18 different trips to the shop, and several more problems in the second year of ownership? No thanks! My Mother had a Murano as well and while it was not as bad as my Nissan, it still managed to have several major problems in the 2.5 years she owned it. It really is a shame because I liked the Murano even if it was an SUV, Nissan makes cars I like, but they way they have treated me as a customer keeps me from ever buying another, I couldn't afford the Skyline anyways but I could afford a 350Z and I really like the Z, but I just have to say no. I can hardly wait untill I am rid of my Nissan, which should be soon, I am waiting on the Evo X.

John:

Not a big fan of the car, but I still respect the fact that it's a Skyline.

worldbfree4me:

While there is no doubt in my mind or any sane persons mind that this car will be faster than most production cars, billing it as a "Corvette Killer" Motor Trend has taken the lead in putting out the first of many press releases to follow re:Nissan vs Corvette that have no merit whatsoever. Good marketing/theatre but baseless. The Corvette currently in Showroom floors at a dealer near you weighs around 3200lbs, and you can choose either 436 horses or 500 horses to motivate it, using a 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto. For the money there is simply no other car that can match it period. Expect the Nissan to weigh in at 3600-3900lbs with 4WD,4WS,6spd DSG close but no cigar!!!

Ian:

Faster than a 911 Turbo, possibly cheaper than a Z06. And now, according to our sources at the scene, Nissan has recorded a stunning seven-minute/35-second lap around the Nurburgring's Nordschleife with a stock 480-horsepower GT-R.

Among production road cars, that's quicker than a Porsche 996 GT2 and Corvette Z06 (both 7:42). It's not as quick as a Koenigsegg CCR, Pagani Zonda F, Porsche 997 GT2, or Porsche Carrera GT, the top four quickest cars around the Green Hell. But, as we went to press, Nissan was working on possibly tackling the record again.

Road cars the Nissan GT-R must beat:

1. Porsche Carrera GT: 7 minutes/28 seconds
2. Porsche 997 GT2: 7 minutes/32 seconds
3. Pagani Zonda F: 7 minutes/33 seconds
4. Koenigsegg CCR: 7 minutes/34 seconds

What the Nissan GT-R has beat:

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren: 7 minutes/40 seconds
Porsche 997 Turbo: 7 minutes/40 seconds
Chevrolet Corvette Z06: 7 minutes/42 seconds
Porsche 996 GT2: 7 minutes/42 seconds

Back to you, Chevrolet. Show us what you can do with the new Corvette ZR1

Remy LeBeau:

^^^

.......and that four wheel drive and steering you bash so much will most likely make this thing faster than a Z06 around a track. When will Americans learn that raw power doesn't always win?

Enz0:

Nissan GTR AWD control is really devilsh. They always aimed for the impossible.i can hardly wait for 500 or 600hp on nurburgring...I bet it will be on first 3 cars

Sabby:

If you do the math, the GTR is faster than the Z06 (I assume C6) by less than 1%, which is extremely negligible (and within margin for error), as many factors are at play. To name a few: weather conditions (air temp, track temp, humidity, wind, barometric pressure, etc.), driver ability, miles aready logged on vehicle, etc.

Take The Ring's test results with a grain of salt, for any car comparo.

Like Enzo said, there's only one thing that justifies the price: Speed

NEALSTER:

I lived in Japan for 8 years, this is by far the best thing that could happen to the U.S. the GTR, now the U.S. get's to see how well a fine car runs. I have driven the Corvette and the G35/350, and the Skyline. the Vette has alot of power, but you can't control the horse. The GTR is the Beast, that can be tame.

turner:

Actually I think the I-phone is pretty cool.

Andrew666:

I still like my vette better than anything else I have driven.

big Dhustla:

none of corvette queers have any idea what the hell you are talking about the nissan gtr is a breakthrough in performance for nissan.all you queers that get a bonner every time you touch the interior of your corvette i got nothing against bmws or mercades american cars suck dick all you fags that support your corvettes are just mad because youre piece of shit american car is not fast any more.imports rule so why dnt you suck on that and choke on it ropesucker.
