Honda has announced the pricing for its hottest Civic sold in the US. The Honda Civic Mugen is going to start at $30,135.

For $30K you will get a Civic Si sedan with a lowered suspension, 18-inch forged alloy lightweight wheels and a sport-tuned exhaust system. A full aerodynamic body kit which includes a front spoiler with a sport grille, side skirts, a rear bumper diffuser and an adjustable rear wing spoiler is also included.

Unfortunately there aren't any changes to the powertrain and final output of the 2.0L engine remains at 197hp. only 1,000 of the cars are going to be sold.

$30,000?!!!

Fooz:

You missed one of the most important parts - they raised the rev limiter to over 10krpm.

HanZ:

these are collector's item so 30k I can understand why.

Type R will smokes this crap.

tubba:

30K for an econobox? Rather have a GTI which is way funner to drive and easily souped up with extra power and TASTEFUL exterior upgrades from the aftermarket and even VW, not to mention superior cabin quality that doesn't make you feel like you just stepped in to a Trekkie's wet dream. Was that a run on sentence?

Mike M:

This is like the 4th article on torque report that has come out on this car, saying exactly the same thing, and getting the same comments...haha. Pick a new car.

Travis:

yeah this is like the 4th time it has shown up, but now we know how much it is going to cost, 30K? get real you can get a Lancer Evo for around that, the RS is like 27.5K and the normal car is like 31.5k.

Marek:

Vageta! What does the scouter say about his power level?

It's over 30,000 !!!!!!!!

Allen:

@Marek:

lol

@Topic:
I agree with Travis, you can get an Evo for that much! These truly are just going to be collectors items, that or the Mugen suspension has to be REALLY well done to deserve that price. And at that price, I expect it to be able to take 90 degree turns at 60 mph.

Sphere:

Allen quote: "at that price, I expect it to be able to take 90 degree turns at 60 mph."

I almost spill my coffee on the keyboard...lol !!

MW:

Does it look good, yes. Is it worth 30k, HELL NO! I like Hondas but this is rediculous. Honda has WAY overestimated the value of ANY civic. Why would I buy this (which is improbable given how rare they will be) when I can go down to any dealership and get a base model WRX that will have more power and all wheel drive for 6k less! Not to mention that the build quality and reliability is pretty close to Honda. This doesn't even take into consideration the fact that for just a little more you can get FAR greater performance from an EVO or an STI.

No doubt these will sell out quickly, but I'm sorry, for all but the Honda fanboys this car is way...WAY overpriced. No matter how much you dress it up it's still a 2.0L naturally aspirated CIVIC! I don't care if it can rev to 200,000RPM it's still underpowered for it's price range and the cars it's competing against. Maybe if they put some forced induction on it wether that be turbo charging or a supercharger (which is easily done on the strong K series motor), then it might be worth 30k....maybe.

Gary:

Im a Honda fan through and through, but I would never waste any where near $30k on an this SI. Unless they strapped the K23T and AWD on it they are out of their minds.

I will honestly point and laugh loudly from the seat of my Integra at anybody driving a Mugen SI. Then I'll lose em on the twisties with my $1k in suspension mods. If they still want more I'll roast em in straight line too.

labtroll:

"Unfortunately there aren't any changes to the powertrain and final output of the 2.0L engine remains at 197hp. "

...hrm... so what's the point of paying over $15K more...

piece of front drive crap... give me an S2000 for a few grand more. no back seats? get your own car! haha

Mike:

People will still buy it for the name.

kal326:

30,135 is it worth it? Are you insane? Its almost 10k over a regular Civic SI and only 3k less then an Acura RDX that has 2.3 Turbo and SH-AWD. Stick that drive line with a manual in the Civic and you might have something worth 30k. WTF was Honda thinking pricing this thing at 30k? Maybe, 23,135 since all it has over regular Si is a minor bit of body work, better rims, and exhaust.

Whats there next great idea a S2000 Mugen CR for 45k? with a similiar treatment?

Carnut57:

Its a collectors car, end of story. No ones buying it for performance, they will buy an S2000 if that want a performance Honda.

JohnnyNismo:

For $30,000 you can get any number of fast cars. Subaru's, Mitsubishi Evo's, a Mustang GT with leather and all the options, or a 350z.

HONDA GOT GREEDY AND MISSED THE MARK!

zzz:

only a 1000 made, 300 unit Civic RR sold out in 10 minutes, mainly for collectors

D!:

Three words you almost never here in the same sentence...civic and collector's item.

gm0n3y:

Did anybody else notice that this article said that it comes with "a sport-tuned exhaust system" and that the "final output of the 2.0L engine remains at 197hp". How the hell is the exhaust "sport-tuned" if I doesn't make any more power? Did they just poke some holes in it to make it louder? I hate you Honda.

nuke:

I want what Honda's smokin' cause I just don't see how this can compete with an R32 (also a collector's item Carnut57, D) or an RX-8, MazdaSpeed 3, or even--dare I say it--an SRT-4. Most of those said cars are easily less than 30K. Moo-ghen or not, 30K can go towards way-sexier cars. Revving high is cool, but torque is where it's at! Most Honda guys with blinders on haven't driven German turbos before. Shoot, I was one of those guys until I drove the VR6 GTi, 1.8T Jetta, and the Bi-Turbo 2.7T S4; I love my 2.0T A4! Check out GoApr.com and see for youself; DirectPort ECU upgrades yielding ~40hp and ~100 lb/ft for just $599. You'll be lucky to get 20 hp or lb/ft on IEH upgrades on a NA Honda. Don't get me wrong, I love Hondas, but damn. Honda/Acura does need to offer V8s, AWD and/or turbos on ALL their rides and forget trying to emulate what they've been trying to avoid (i.e. the turbos efficiency and power output). That's how they'll start competing with the likes of Lexus and BMW.

longdxcommuter:

I agree with the majority of posts on this topic. The Civic is a great car w/ a willing engine and ample suspension. However, $30K for this is absurd. You can take a top line Civic, add competetive suspension and engine upgrades for alot less. $30K yields an ultra competitive selection of vehicles at that price point. I still do not think that having MUGEN splashed on it and having 1000 copies really will make this a collector's item.

Honda always seems to distance themselves from the aftremarket tuners. It wasn't until recent years that Honda acknowledged that the tuner market was infact helping sales of the CIVIC and then Honda offered their own factory mods.

method526:

it's a tough choice. mugen parts are PRIME CHOICE for hondas but $30k over new body kit, suspension, and slight performance boost? i dunno...but i'd still like to have one...but the civic si sedans dont entice me :P

dontworryaboutit:

First of all, Honda made only 500 of the Mugen Si's. Not 1000. Second, since they only made 500 of them, it makes it a rare car. Wait 6 months and the price will probably go down...I live in New England and there are only 2 of them around here. You can bet your ass that some Asian kid is gonna walk into a Honda showroom and and buy one. And at that point, im gonna be laughing that I just made a $800 commission on a Civic Si...

rawkus:

There are in fact 1000 made, not 500.

The main thought process is collectors item. After a couple weeks, you probably couldn't buy one if you wanted to. It isn't meant to compete on the same performance level as an EVO. From a practical thought process, it doesn't make much sense to buy if you are looking to use it on a regular basis.

I have driven this car, it is an extremely high quality piece and regardless of the price, it is very cool to see a Mugen car here, with hopes for future, more aggressive cars to be released.

Also, I own a Civic Si (EM1) and a E36 Supercharged M3. The Civic is far more fun to race on the track or autocross. I keep the M3 because of prestige... the same reason you would buy the Mugen.
