Or you could just learn how to drive your car and not push it beyond its capabilities. AWD has advantages as does RWD.

The other thing it's missing is an affordable price tag...this piece of junk isn't even worth the price it is...I would ratter buy a Dodge Charger or anything like that and get my money's worth.
The Dodge Charger could take on that car no problem, with 30k to spend elsewhere...Nuff said.

...so long as you were going in a straight line. American cars by and large SUCK at handling real road courses, where there are curves, and hills.
I'd love to have a old Triumph roadster, for the sheer amount of fun you can have taking a car the size of a large, noisy motorcycle (*cough HARLEY cough*) through hairpins at high speed.
And Dodge? Are you kidding?

What does it matter??
I drove the new A3 and it is definitely better than a BMW in terms of ride, comfort, and control.

hmm a Dodge Charger, ok go around a corner with that, it would be worse then that bmw, those things are to heavy. But then of course learn the limits.

Haha! Wow. Yea, lets see a Charger (even the SRT-8) hit 60 in the low 4's.

Poorly photochopped by some queer Audi fanboy who doesn't know a thing about marketing/advertising. The Audi would be the center of the ad with the bimmer as secondary and MUCH smaller.

Spoken like a true American redneck.
If it wasn't worth $60k they couldn't charge $60k for it, it's called perceived value.
Just like Dodge charges $35k for a loaded SRT Charger, which I think is blasphemous. Last generation MB E-class chassis and trans hooked to a hickish OHV V-8 and an interior that looks like it was lifted from a PT Cruiser (rental car anyone?).

I cannot believe you are so gullible to think this is an actual ad.
It takes a second or less to see that some kid did this with the most basic photo editing software within seconds.

BMWs are pretty amazing cars. All of you that are talking smack about BMWs, I ask you sirs, "Have you ever driven one?" I owned a 7 series for a couple of years while stationed in Germany and that car drove like a precision instrument and was the most precise car I've ever had the pleasure to drive in my life. Comparing a BMW to a Dodge Charger is like comparing a scalpel to a hammer when used for surgery. I could easily drive my 7 series down the Autobahn at 150 mph with complete relaxation whereas when I drove my Pontiac down the road more than 80MPH it was white knuckle driving. My BMW was a 1987 with close to 250,000km on it while my Pontiac Bonneville SSEi was 10 years newer with only 100,000 miles on it. This M3 doesn't need all wheel drive. It was designed for rear wheel drive and thats all it needs. I never once needed AWD in my BMW. One thing I found out about BMWs the hard way, if you ever need to replace anything, the parts are very expensive. They don't call BMW big man's wallet for nothing. I had to replace a brake caliper to pass inspection and it cost 500 euro for a new one.

Once again... im amazed that Torque Report even posted this... its obvious....
and they even posted a few weeks ago that BMW was going to have a 335xi as an option so why would they even post something like this that says BMW is still missing that? this makes no sense!

This is what happens when editors/authors "DON'T" (look at the spelling) check their sources even when it reeks of stupidity. I wonder since when was poor grammar acceptable in any "official" advertisement.

Some moron stated that a Dodge Charger could take this in a straight line. Are you stupid man? A Charger has a 350 hp V8 and the aerodynamics of a brick, not to mention its based on the same platform as the Chrysler 300C, which is the same as a two generations old Mercedes E Class!
Plus the M3 is tuned as a race car and built on a modern platform. I can find videos all over the web of the last generation M3 spanking Chargers left and right.

First off, anyone who thinks a current gen Charger could take an M3 is on something. Maybe off the line, but certainly not in a 1/4 mile. And certainly not on any course involving a curve. I mean, I'm American and love the V8, but the new Charger, well, it's a brick. Maybe if you invested the money saved from not going with an M3, you could at least get it to out run the BMW in the 1/4....
And CS, what you are saying is your 10 year older BMW has only 50k more miles on it than the Pontiac, but the BMW handles so much nicer. Umm, you are comparing a 7 series to a Pontiac....that's like apples to grapefruit.
But see that's my point. Over here, we don't really make cars to compete with the mid/high range of the likes of BMW. That's not really an American ideaology. (Having a nice BMW or whatever is more about "keeping up with the Jones" than about having a nice car) Most Americans like a nice car, but something afforable to buy, economical to own, and half way dependable is what most people look for. Hence why the Corolla and Civic sell like hot cakes. We have Cadilac, but that's a strech to compare it to BMW. Simply put Americans like power, and no not like BMW or anything that's makes 300+ hp on less than a 300 cubic inch (or 5 litres for all you non Americans... ;-) engine. Tire melting, straight line, get up and go. Not winding through the gears, or hugging the curves, just go. You see 99% of the roads here are basically straight, so even if you have a lovely track oriented car you'll never reall use it. I'd certainly trade that M3 in for an American car, preferably something pre 73 and with a blower.....

That's only around 55,000 miles difference actually. Please use the same units when making comparisons.

Noya,
You don't have to call him an American redneck and offend other Americans, you could just call him a redneck instead.... we would all still understand.
I still wouldn't touch a single BMW with a 10 pole because of the reliability problems. They might be able to make it from 0-60 in under 5 seconds, but you will still have to plan shop visits into any long trip. I have driven many of the new BMW's and none of them were comfortable over a long trip with exception of a 7 series. The X5, 5 series, and 3 series were all uncomfortable to ride in. The have loud road noise, ride rough, and are just uncomfortable.
The VERY good note about the cars is they handle like a dream... and doing well over 100 is effortless.
BMW has some major issues to work on, as well as Merc. I would rather drive Japanese luxury since they are more comfortable and don't break down. If I needed the status symbol or a car to amateur race I would go with BMW.

Clever pic. But the reality is that these roads appear dry and quattro doesn't provide any appreciable traction on dry pavement. This M3 just has a jackass for a driver. Not uncommon for the M3.

Just an observation, so take it as you will.
European and Japanese cars sell well in America and all over the world.
How well do American cars sell outside of America?!

All wheel drive has its place, that place is with rally car racing (possibly the second best sport ever, behind soccer of course) and with stupid people who don't know don't know how to drive and shouldn't be on the road in the first place so they don't kill the few of us good drivers that are left.
Adding all wheel drive to their line at all was in my opinion the worst idea BMW has ever had. No, maybe redesigning all their cars to look like Camrys (fortunately they appear to be on a good path to recovery from that debacle) a few years back was the worst, so let's say second worst. What's the next headline? "Ferrari and Lamborghini, all their missing is a automatic transmission?" Learn to drive your car!!!
And I'm not getting into how ridiculous the attempt at the Charger comparison was.

Well, some of the vehicles ford makes sell very well in Europe. I wouldn't expect Japan or China to drive America cars because they are worse than Americans are in supporting local companies.

Luka,
It's still a Mitsubishi. That company has one of the worst resale values of the major companies. Just because you can take it out doesn't make it a wise car to buy.
Posted by wes | September 17, 2007 3:11 PM
Posted on September 17, 2007 15:11
"That company has one of the worst resale values of the major companies."
So you should look at resale value instead of quality, performance, and style when buying a car? Seriously, you're buying a car - not stocks and bonds.
Posted by Remy LeBeau | September 17, 2007 9:14 PM
Posted on September 17, 2007 21:14
Not looking at resale value is stupid. Two comparable cars in MSRP, performance and quality may have markedly different resale values, and you'd be dumb to pick the car that has the lower resale value as its total cost of ownership is higher. A BMW M3's cost of ownership is less than several other cars of its price range due to its excellent retention of value.

Nothing wrong with Mitsubishi Eclipse 2006 GT I own. It's fully loaded and you can get one for 30k and it's much better then Mustang GT.
I have a 30,000 miles on it...not a single problem.

I have had a eclipse and a eagle talon. My eclipse got stolen years ago and I still have my talon to this day. 165k miles later and I have only had a battery die. Mitsu may not be doing so well these days but they have by far built the most reliable car I have driven, and that is saying allot giving that I own a 2005 BMW 530i. I love my BMW but there are so many components in it that it weird things tend to happen.
Dodge Charger vs M3.........your joking right? That comment alone tells me you have never been within 10 feet of a BMW. The new M3 has 400 horses and is probably 35-40% lighter than that dodge. BMW's cars are built like tanks too, rock solid and there is not another car out there that handles like they do.
