Is Mitsubishi Finally Making a Comeback?

lancergtsblue.jpg
Mitsubishi is finally making a comeback this year with the new Lancer sedan and Outlook SUV. The new Lancer is so much better than the last generation and buyers have noticed.

The top-level Lancer GTS, which accounts for 60 percent of all Lancer sales is selling faster than dealers can get them in according to Janis Little, spokeswoman for Mitsubishi Motors North America. Mitsubishi originally expected the mid-level ES sedan to be the most popular model.

The U.S. was the first country to receive the all-new Lancer, although many of the GTS dealer orders have been cancelled. Little has no idea when dealers will be able to get more of the GTS models to dealers.

The Lancer has been Mitsubishi’s best selling model so far this year.

Travis:

This is good news, I would hate to see Mitsubishi go under. I mean that would mean no more Lancer Evos.

Jamison:

The Lancer's styling is really nice in my opinion. I'm still waiting for the final specs for the EVO X.

But definitely this Lancer is an eye catcher.

Remy LeBeau:

Yes, it's quite good looking. One of my neighbors bought one recently and I love seeing it in their driveway when I drive past.

Chris:

I like the front end styling, very R34-ish.

Noya:

Too bad every other model they produce is hideous.

rene:

well the Mitsu folks apparently didnt use US clinics, or at least they didnt listen.

The US-version seems not basterdised over the Asian version. Way to go!

If only Honda, Hyundai were so smart.

It's okay at best, but I wouldn't say it's better than the Evo 8/9 design. I'm a sucker for small 4 door saloons.

Someone leaked a dealer brochure from the JDM market, the scans are around if you want to look for them, try the Lancer Register, though they are not high enough res to be easy to read.

The Engine is listed at 276 hp and 311 ft lbs of Torque, the hp figure seems to be a nod to the Japanese gentlemen's agreement that limited their advertised horsepower to 276 on domestically produced vehicles even though it's no longer in effect. Based on the Torque output and the dyno readouts of prior Evo's I expect that real hp is right at 300 hp.

The bad news is that it looks like weight for the various models has gone up, it looks like 3150 lbs for the RS 3350 lbs for the GT and 3400 lbs for the GSR. The current Evo IX is roughly 3215 lbs for the RS, 3265 for the IX, and 3285 lbs for the MR.

Travis:

Joe.

Before I forget I have a feeling they mean the build quality of the car, and the fit/finish as well as look of the interior when they say it's better. Also they are comparing the new Lancer to the old base Lancer not the Evo, and lets face it the styling on the old Lancer benefited immensely from Evo treatment, it looked almost like an entirely different car.

i just bought my new lancer gts a week ago and i like it alot but then i hate cali cause of the pzev emission and cause of that u won't get that much hp or torq, it had lowered to 143hp and 143ftlb torq...beside of that i also like the paddle shifter but then i normaly use the sportronic manuel more... well anywaise have fun with ur new lancer when u guys get it.
