Last week Subaru released the first official teaser image of the upcoming WRX STi and today the automaker has released a second photo of the back of the car.
The car is set to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show next month so for now we must make due with two very dark photos of the car. Subaru's main competition the Mitsubishi EVO X has already been revealed and full tests are beginning to show up in all the popular car mags.
You can expect the car to have somewhere around 300 horsepower and to come standard with AWD. It remains to be seen if Subaru has anything up its sleeve to compete with Mitsubishi's new dual-clutch transmission.

Hopefully they will do something about the low rent interior and numb steering feedback! I know you can do it Scooby!

Teaser images dark or not, from what I saw of the new Rex, it won't matter what they release as the damn thing still looks like an ugly ass Daewoo wagon with some gold make-up here and there to try to pretty her up some. It only makes me glad that I bought a 2000 RS, back when Subaru's were a thing of agressive beauty.

The subaru just got with an ugly stick, the Evo X is gonna kill it in terms of sales. The Evo X look a shitload better than the upcomming STI. STI is done for the current generation, i feel that Subaru will have a refresh after 2 years lol since the upcomming one looks so shit!

I would make my picture dark if I looked busted too.

Yep, these Japs have been churning out ugly Turbos lately. And each generation at Subaru has been uglier than the one before.
The Legacy is good looking though. They should use the Legacy for fooling around with performance.

Why or why can't they offer the STI in the sedan version?? The sedan actually looks really nice and dare I say better then the Lancer.
I'm pretty sure the Impreza will continue on with it's 2 year make overs. It really sucks they can't get the styling right, as each time a new Impreza is announced I get all hopeful that they finally got it looking good, just to be let down, again!

Even tho it looks somewhat like a focus 2 me... if u look close on the pic from behind, they put a dual exhuast on it.. which makes it look alott better.

also b.t.w. i just got the november issue of car and driver in.... New Evo X test.... 0-60 5.0 and 13.8 quarter. Looks like the extra weight killed the performance of it... 3500lbs is way too much. Even if the sti is ugly.. if its 3200lbs with 300 plus hp... itll easily take the evo in straight line performance, and i think subaru will steal a lot of sales because of this, despite the looks.

I have driven the standard Impreza model of this car series and it drive really well for a 4 cylinder/AWD automobile.
Between the Evo and the WRX that is in the showroom today, they both look equal in aggressiveness. I haven't driven the Evo/Lancer car because the salespeople they have at Mitsubishi are too aggressive in "trying" to make a sale.
Depending on what you are purchasing this car to do, I find its lower half to handle very well for $18,000.00

The new Evo weighs around 3350~3400 lbs actually, compared to the old one which weighed 3250~3300 lbs. There are rumors that the RS version is going to come in around 3150 lbs, by doing things like ganking a lot of the sound insulation.
It's sad that the straight line acceleration is slower, but it's nice that the new car is over a second faster than the old one around a sub 2 minute test track.
The new STi is ugly, and it lacks a lot of the tech upgrades the Evo was blessed with, However I like hatchbacks they are so practical and it's not like I can afford 2 cars.
As to why I think the new STi is ugly, I feel it has ugly C pillars, ugly tail lights, a less then good looking front air dam, and the grille is terrible looking. I think the headlights could use some work as well. The good news if you buy one is that you will likely be able to fix up the front and rear with some after market body kits. And the side view of the car is actually pretty good the proportions are not bad either.
