Spy photographers have caught what appears to be a CSL version of the upcoming BMW M3. It is uncertain if this is actually an M3 CSL, but the rear trunklid spoiler and wider track obviously lead us to believe that this is indeed a CSL version.
BMW has admitted that the automaker is working on a new CSL, but there aren’t any details about the car. In the past the CSL was a lighter version of the M3 with more power, a modified suspension, and a wider track.
The M3 CSL isn’t expected before 2009.

Nice but the exhaust pipes seem a bit childishly exposed. A slight understatement would have made the entire care look more maturely designed because the rest of it is quite tasteful.

I thought this WAS a modified M6 at first glance -- which means that the 3 series has gotten WAY too big and needs to lose a few hundred pounds as well as at least half a foot off the length.

I suppose your new favorite will be the 135i with the 3.0L twin turbo?

Pretty much, yea. Now if you could drop the M3's V8 into that......
Really, it's stupid that car companies add a few inches in every direction and a couple hundred pounds to their car every 5 years or so. At the rate we're going cars won't even fit in standard sized garages in 20 years and they'll have to change how they build houses as a result.

I admit I'm not a BMW fan so don't know much about them, but this car looks exactly like every other BMW made in the last 10 years to me.

As long as they can shave 400-600 lbs off and add say 35-50hp and give it a nicer exhaust it will be be great!

Sorry if this is offensive but:
All German cars suck. I own a MB and it is no better than a cheap Ford Explorer (I have an ML).
German's might have an edge on performance and handling, but reliability is not their forte.
As for this car above, it does look like every other BMW out there. JPB (Just Plain Boring).

First off, it's hard to judge the size of a car by a picture on a computer. Second, I seriously doubt that this car is as large as an M6. It really looks about the same size as an average 3 series. The 6 series is noticeably larger when placed next to a 3.

Yes, the 6 is larger (but from this picture they seem the same size), but it doesn't change the fact that the current 3 series is bigger than some of the older 5 series cars.
Andrew -- you own a Shitcedes...of course it sucks. They're much more focused on crappy looks that appeal to rappers with an IQ of 5 than they are about anything else.

If you own an ML it means you own the least reliable Mercedes of all (and they are all pretty unreliable with exception of very recent models where they went back up a notch in reliability) and ML also siffered from being made in the US :)
When it was introduced many argued that it is impossible to build a quality car in US and at the time it seemed they were right to say so but Toyota and others proved that that is not the case.
If you own an ML, get rid of it. It comes last in almost all car reliability surveys. You can't just go around buying cars because they were in Jurrasic park. Seriously.

cars grow, because the people that buy them grow.
At least in the US, that is.
That's why US-gov should go for an income tax that is based on ones overweight.
Fat people pay more tax then slim people.
See how quickly the US will turn slim again. Then they fit in the Eu/Asian version of the car, get all those qualities what come with it, like low fuel comsumption, and not go to a far away country to steal oil.

Mercedes or not, I have a co-worker with a 3 series that spends more time in the shop than on the road....
I wouldn't buy another German car. Germans are all hype no bite.
Basic difference here is, if I buy an American car for 1/3 the price and it breaks down or craps out, that is okay, it cost 1/3 of the price of the overpriced German equivelent.

rene,
The main reason Americans are so over weight is becuase of depression.
People here have a lot to be depressed about. Cost of living is high, quality of life is low. Only the very few in America have a good. Americans are always oogling over celebs and what they are doing or not doing.
If the US stop trying to make other countries like ours and concentrate on our issues we would be better off.
We still have "Kitrina Victims", Wild Fires, massive foreclosures, homeless glory, you name it we have it.
People eat because they are nervous, not hungry....

I grew up on Road & Track and never like BMWs simply for the fact they were ugly boxes. I then purchased my first BMW '89 wagon in '02 and was amazed at how well it handled. I then bought a new '03 330xi and it was a wonderful car. Even being an xi model with a higher end, it handled so well and drove like a dream. In the five years I owned it, the only mechanical part that needed replacing was a motor for the moonroof. Furthermore, I changed the oil once a year. The engine was smooth, responsive, and plenty powerful for US roads, though somewhat underpowered for the autobahn.
I dreaded trading it in, but hey, the needs of young kids were calling. The '07 Oddessy drives surprisingly well, is much more practical, and made the loss a little easier to swallow.
Unless you are some stud executive with deep pockets and think Porsche is a generic word, I personally can't see what all the negative comments about BMWs are about. Sure, I've heard that if these cars to have issues, it gets expensive quickly. But high performance cars are finicky. You can't tell me that the world's elite racing cars race, sit in a garage untouched, and go out and race again. That's why they are high performance. I feel fortunated I've been able to experience an affordable version of top notch engineering and that I had almost no mechanical issues whatsoever is 5 years.
I am not one who likes a lot of flash and attention, so my dream car is the BMW M3 because it looks relatively normal. But under the hood and behind the wheel, it is an affordable supercar. I no longer dream of owning a Ferrari. When the kids grow up and I retire, I will buy an M3, assuming the status quo remains similar.

@Tim-
Unless you're in Europe, BMW never made a wagon in the E30 (1994-91) or E36(92-99) 3 series body styles. They made a 5 series wagon in the E34(89-96) but the wagon was not made available in any market until 92.

Bimmerman: Good observation. I owned a German spec 318i station wagon while living abroad. The 330xi was made to U.S. specs through a Canadian military sales program. While I've visited the 51st state, I've never lived there. I'm happily back on American soil (although I do miss the autobahn A LOT!)
