It seems that the Lincoln Mark LT luxury pickup has failed to meet sales targets. The Lincoln version of the Ford F-150 was launched for the 2006 model year, but as failed to find a following. The latest reports state that the truck will be discontinued after the 2008 model year.
Last year Lincoln only managed to find 12,753 buyers for the truck, which is well below the 20,000 target. Sales are expected to fall even more this year due to the overall decline in the large truck and SUV segment.
Ford is going to redesign the F-150 pickup for 2009 and there will be a new "Platinum" edition, so it makes sense that the Lincoln version will not be continued. Ford can use the extra space in the factory.

No surprises here. You know what makes a good luxury car, when the car is based on and even shares body panels with a car thats a whole pay grade below it? Good stuff that is piled on top.
You know, like a more powerful engine, decedent leather interiors, 14 speaker sound systems, cushiony ride and tons of technology. Now what did the Mark LT have? The same engine, crappy leather, a sound system that, if I remember, was the same as a top of the line F-150, and a ride that felt remarkably like a F-150 Lariat Crew Cab edition.
Oh, and it had different badges and a different grill. Compare this to, well, two other trucks from the same company! The Expedition and Navigator ride loads different. The Navigator gets a 14 speaker THX certified system: the Expedition can come at maximum with 6 speakers of crap. The Expedition gets a tacky yet "rugged" leather: the Navigator has nice leather. And the Navigator has more than a different grill to be different: there is way more chrome available on it.
Still, there should be more difference, I should not be able to pull apart an Expedition and fit a Navigator door to it, and vice versa, and if I had a shop to do it in, I could easily turn an Expedition into a Navigator by just pulling out the stereo and seats and replacing them. A few cosmetic upgrades to the exterior and its done.
Try doing that with a Toyota to a Lexus though! There is nothing held in common between a Camry and an IS350. Or Nissan to Infiniti: between an G35 and a Maxima, how many differences are there? There is nothing in common at all!
If you have multiple brands, a CPC (Common Peoples Car) and a Luxury brand, they need to be different from each other. Or at least make all the options on the CPC standard on the Luxury brand (with the exception of the highly specialized ones).

I think they tried to bring it back based on the fact the Blackwood had both poor name scheme and worse press.
Where the concept goes wrong is that it is essentially a pretty F-150, in both the case of the Blackwood and the Mark LT. And that this was essentially a light duty Luxury pickup truck. Who else has one of those on the market? No one. Why? Because the concept is dumb: whats the point in a luxury pickup?
You could easily say the Escalade EXT is another example and it sells well, but that'd be making the mistake of saying the Escalade is meant for work. Sure it has a little bit of bed space, but its more suited to carrying lots of luggage than lumber. And with the lack of low range 4wd no one is going to take this for significant off roading.
Plus, the Escalade has what the Avalanche (its downmarket cousin) does not: an all aluminum V8 with 403 horsepower. That engine is more for go fast than pull much. And it gots a nice interior, and it rides smoother, and it has better audio. Can't help none to much that its also popular with rap artists and the youth crowd.

Alan,
No, the Camry won't have much in common with an IS350... but it will have LOTS in common with the ES350.
And the Nissan Maxima? Used to have LOTS in common with the Infinity I30. But the G series has nothing in common with the Maxima because it is on a different chassis (a stretched version of the 350Z chassis).
So the Japanese do the same thing with their luxury brands and Ford does with Lincoln.
The devil is in the details... like having a luxury-worthy interior and powertrain... as you mentioned. Stuff the Lincoln pickup didn't have or didn't have implemented well.
I think the stupid name didn't help either... The Lincoln Mark LT... Lettuce and Tomato.
They should have just made a pickup version of the Navigator and called it some like "Navigator PT" (PT standing for Pickup Truck)

So, Ford tried something that didn't work. That is how you succeed, you try stuff that might work and most of the things don't work, but one or two ideas take off and go crazy. If this had worked out and made Ford a hefty profit, would everyone say that they were stupid?
In some markets, like Texas, people will pay high-end luxery car type money for fancy pick-ups with lots of unnecessary features. Ford sought to get a bigger chunk of this money, but it didn't work out for them. Perhaps they didn't do it right.
I didn't even know that this product existed until I saw one on the road last week. So perhaps their marketing department did a lousy job on this one too.

i'm amazed that you can still find 12k suckers. And even more amazed that Ford though they could find 20k.
Are they stupid or what?

I have a 2004 supercrew lariat fully loaded. I thought of trading it in for a marklt, but when I looked at an 2007 LT it was the same truck, except for a navigation radio, reverse sensor, and message seats(but my lariat came with DVD system). You can get the same options in a 2007 lariat or harley truck but for 5000 or more cheaper. I am one who would rather get a luxury pickup than a sedan in the same price range, but I am not going to hand ford an extra 5-10 grand for a name on a truck, and that is where ford messed up. Besides a bigger motor, where was the extra options, the 6 speed auto, and why no standard hard top on the bed. I hate SUV's. I wanted a truck just as fancy and loaded like a navigator, not like a lariat. The sad thing is, if they would have made the mark lt with the extra stuff the platinum will have over the lariat, they would have sold more.

I bought one. 0% interest for 60 months and a dealer looking to ditch 2 of them sitting on their lot. While I agree that it could use more horsepower and a 6 speed tranny, it is still a very nice truck. I traded in a '03 F250 6.0L Powerstroke crew cab as my job changed and I wasn't hauling huge trailer loads along with a crab full of crew guys. I'll keep it for a couple years, then trade it out for something else expensive...

I am sad to hear that the Mark LT will be discontinued ! This is a great truck ! Luxury at it's finest. That truck makes heads turn, it is a well built truck, and I believe it was just not marketed correctly. It is the best vehicle I have ever owned, a very handsome truck. I love driving it ! Most people who knock the truck just cannot afford one. I say work hard and buy one ! I will buy another LT 2008. Hopefully Lincoln will bring this wonderful vehicle back one day soon. If you keep the words can't afford in your vocabulary, you will not have nice things in life ! Hard but true ! Talking straight from New Orleans ( La Novelle Orle'ans, Louisiane )
