According to Ulrich Hackenberg, head of product development at Volkswagen all future VW models are going to have either a mild or full hybrid option.
Hackenberg also discussed the future of diesels in the VW lineup in a recent interview with Automobilewoche. In addition to the VW models that have already been revealed with diesel powertrains, the next models to receive a diesel option are the Tiguan SUV and possibly the EOS convertible.
He also discussed the future of the rear-engined VW up! that is set to be released for the 2011 model year. The small up! could serve as the basis for an all electric vehicle in the future.

VW is going to need to make a change in strategy if they want to continue selling cars in the US. They have been losing a ton trying to prop up US car sales.

well, they want to catch-up with Toyota in 10 years, and sell a million vehicles in 2018, so i guess the hybrids will come in 2030.

Before VW worries about anything, they first need to fix that dang check engine light that stays on. My car is brand new and the stupid check engine light stays on due to an intake manifold runner control motor problem. I've been waiting 3 months now and the dealer keeps telling me they have no idea when the new part is going to come in. This is not what I expect out of a $28,000 european sedan. So if you are listening VW, fix your damn quality control, fix my car and everyone else's car that has problems, then worry about hybrids. If we can't trust you with a simple check engine light problem, how can we trust you with the advanced electronics its going to take to have a hyrid motor.
