Thanks to the guys over at Edmunds we have a video of the upcoming 2009 Chevrolet Traverse.
The Traverse is Chevy's version of the GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook and Buick Enclave crossovers. Styling is expected to be somewhat similar to its corporate cousins although the Traverse gets a very Malibu like front end. A 3.6L V6 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission is expected. The Traverse could be officially unveiled as early as this January with sales starting next fall.

More badge engineering...
And that should be the Buick Enclave...not BMW.

Why. Why why why? Why would you rebadge something at all? It takes away sales from your other brands sales and lowers the overral profile of the car: its much easier for everyone to look at a car and say "thats a Saturn Outlook" than "I think thats a Saturn, or is it a Buick? Maybe a GMC? Could it be a Chevy?"
Why not just offer two: the Buick version is for luxury and a lower end version in the Chevy or GMC or Saturn brand (notice I did not say "and/or") in order to simplifiy choices? Then you can do other wonderous things like accurately target a segment. You could make Chevrolet a blue-collar brand and Cadillac the Luxury. But now, no one really knows what car is for them based upon its styling and what that badge says about themself.
Also, what if you offer the Traverse at a lower price than an Outlook? Whats the purpose in buying the Outlook at retail? It just tells people what the margins are that much easier.

Why are you hauling a trailer? Just testing the towing capacity or something?

It's a good solid vehicle. Roomier than the small SUVs (CR-V, Escape, Vue, etc) with a good mix of power, mileage, and everyday towing/carrying capabilities. Gets good mileage for a 275 HP 8-seater. They need a crossover in all their brands, it would leave many GM dealerships without one otherwise, and the crossover is becoming an important segment. It's that simple.
Think about this - it's a great alternative to even larger SUVs. If you were in the market for a decent sized SUV, and you drove one, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. If you just plain hate SUVs, then clearly little of this is relevant to you. But you can still see how this crossover is better than an even bigger SUV, and that's the segment they're trying to replace.

Um, since when have "unique sheetmetal" and "badge engineering" been synonyms? Is it fair to say that TLs are Badge engineered V6 Accords, No.
Then how is it accurate to say a car with an obviously different hood, fenders, grille, rear 1/4 panels, rear door and lights "rebadged"? Especially before we even know what the interior is going to be like. With this logic, it would be fair to call the original Lexus ES a rebadged Camry.
To give a consumer answer as to why you might "rebadge" something, I lived in a town that had a chevy dealer but the nearest pontiac/buick/gmc dealer was 15 miles (30 minutes) away, saturn even farther.
To give a dealer's answer "but I don't carry saturn, gmc or buick (I worked a long time for dealerships).
To give GM's answer, "volume = lower cost per shared part."
To give my answer... I wouldn't buy a coke at a Honda dealer, but an Acura dealer treats you like you're worth the money you spend there...
