The new A5 with a six-speed manual transmission will start at $39,900 and the S5 with a six-speed manual will start at $50,500. Both models will have quattro all-wheel-drive standard and the six-speed tiptronic automatic transmissions are a $1,300 option on either model.
The A5 is powered by a 3.2L FSI V6 that produces 265 horsepower and 243 lb-ft. of torque. The S5 is powered by a 4.2L FSI V8 that produces 354 horsepower and 325 lb-ft. of torque.
The S5 with the manual transmission will be in showrooms in November 2007. The A5 and Tiptronic S5 models will be in showrooms by spring 2008.
Too bad these prices don't take into account the massive dealer markups that are going to be attached to the initial cars.

Nope...M3 will be faster, have better handling, be more reliable, and have better resale value!!

you cant compare this to the M3, that starts at 15-20k more.
it should be compared to the 335i and I think $50 K is too much for the S5, power wise, the 335i is identical to the 335i and this starts at $12K more.
it is a pretty good looking car though

Uh, the M3 does not start at $15000 more than the S5, that would make the M3 $65,000. Yet Here is leftlane news reporting that the base price for the M3 will be $53975.
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2007-bmw-m3-e92-pricing-leaked.html
That means that for roughly $3300 more (the Audi starts at $50500 remember) you can get the M3.
And the S5 and 335i are not identical in power Josh. The S5 produces 354 hp, the 335i produces 300. Thats a 54 hp difference.
And I have yet to see released specs for the weight of the S5, or the M3! I know most people will instantly start bashing the Audi for being nose heavy or the M3 for lacking AWD (which gives added traction and arguably better cornering).
All I ask is that we let the official numbers be dropped before we start the flame wars, ok people? And is it really sad that the American is suing for peace right now?

Blah, Blah, Blah..An 08 Base Corvette is still a better value..436hp, 3200lbs, low 12's to 1320 feet, 26miles/gallon hwy..And it will eat any car below the its base price and most above its base price with the lone exception being the Z06 Vette..

The more I look at it the less I like the exterior styling.
Audi is one of few luxury makers which has larger cars that look better than their smaller ones. The A8 looks superb but this should get back on to the drawing board.

Well I did some price digging and found the 2008 M3 is just over 50,600 GBP, which would be $102,000 roughly.
And it looks like the real price in USD is going to be around $68,000. Posted from EGM car tech in Apr 07.
There is a ton of older stuff saying $53,000 as well, that figure seems to have been leaked by BMW North America, about a year ago.
Regardless of what the BMW's cost the A5/S5 seem overpriced to me by about $5,000 which is a real shame because they are very fine looking cars. However a 3.2l Quattro A4 invoices for around $33.5K and I feel the A5 should be more in line with that figure seeing that they are similarly sized cars. I wouldn't be shocked to see an RS5 at some point in the near future either.

HAHAHAH@ worldbfree:
How can you compare the corvette 2008 with an S5? ROFL, and even with an M3? LOL
You can't tpouch aven the a$$ of an M3 and an Audi S5.The vette is awful on daily driving. The tires are slappy and you can't even hear the radio in your car because you are listening the road and the bumps. It's a lot of plastic and in case of a crush you will certainly die because a cam from the 7l engine OHV will enter your mouth or.. lucky you .. your brain.
The luxury from the AUDI 5 series and THE BMW is far more superior than the vette. You don't buy this car for drag racing you poor kid.If I show up on a street with an M3 or a S5 nicely "pimped" all the crowd will think I am a guy with thick wallet.
If I show up with a vette, they will think that I am just another spoiled wich bought the car with the HUGE engine just to overcompensate the small engine from his PANTS

HAHAHAHA@Enz0
I hate to break it to you but caring about and wanting to appear like you have a big wallet through showcasing a pimped car is just as if not more pathetic (could even be for exact same reasons) as is trying to overcompensate the lack of "in pants" specs with a car.
Pretty much the same type of lameness trying to be hidden behind a fasade.

Well, it is true... you buy the Audi or the BMW for luxury, comfort, and a good deal of performance.
You buy the Corvette for quick and dirty drag times... let's face it, you don't care about your car dripping in exquisite luxuries... you love hurling from the light, leaving the rest of the luxury cars in the dust.
I've been in a Corvette, and I've been in an M3. I'd love to drive the M3 on a daily basis, but that Corvette certainly makes me smile.
Now I wish I owned them instead of test drove them... damn wives.
