Nissan's 350Z has taken a backseat to other more important models in the Nissan lineup. The coupe was supposed to receive upgrades for the 2009 model year, but due to the release of the Nissan GT-R, small sports coupe and various hybrid models, the changes are being delayed.
The next-generation 2011 Nissan Z will feature an upgraded powerplant to the 3.7L V6 that is in the new Infiniti G37 coupe. The engine will feature 330 horsepower and the updated car will be renamed the Nissan 370Z.

The Z owns every car in its price class already. This will be the extra edge it needs to be untouchable.

Isn't the new lowest model GTR going to be in the same price range as the 350? Who would want to own a 350 when they could get the GTR, arguably the best looking car to come out in the past 10 years.

The Z is nasty, have you ever drove one?
The interior quality belongs to a $15k Sentra or Versa, not a $35k sports car.
I wish Honda would come out with a new S2000 replacement featuring a DOHC variant of the TL's V6. Have a coupe, convertable and possibly a hartop and it would steal sales from the 350z, Evo, Sti, and most other $30-40k sport cars/coupes.
I also wish Mazda would hurry up with a new Mazdaspeed Miata with the Mazdaspeed 3's 2.3L turbo 4, now that would be a fun ride.

Even if Honda added a small turbo charger to the S2K, its already quite the quick car. The use of a turbo would put it into the 300 Hp range with a small ammount of boost such as like 5-7 psi. Then it would demolish the 350z, they are already fairly close in performance, S2K keeps the handling crown though.

I'm liking the new engine, I always thought that the 350Z, even though it was a great performer, was a bit underpowered to take on the likes of the Porsche Boxter or BMW Z4. However, they CANNOT change the name to 370Z. 370 just sounds... dumb. Plus, it doesn't roll off the tongue as easily - seven is the longest single digit number. What would you rather say, three-fifty or three-seventy?
Also, (I'm not done yet) numbers with 5 are usually a commonplace ( 15, 35, 650, etc) but the number seven is just random. (think 17, 37, 670).
I mean, I agree it makes sense that the engine will have 3.7 liters of displacement, but that never stopped the Mazda 6 (it had a V4) or the Toyota Rav4 (not all were equipped with AWD).
BTW, I never liked the name G37 either.

Nutz, it still has to go though the Lancer Evo, depending on which tests you want to trust, the 350Z is either slightly faster than the Evo around a track, or significantly slower. Seeing as the reviews I trust as far as putting a skilled driver at the helm mostly show the Evo wrecking the 350Z around a track, I am inclined to say the Evo is the faster track day car.
Oh yeah Evo X with 300~330 hp, and an even more advanced AWD system, and race ready Twin clutch hydrostaticly operated clutchless manual. Coming to a track near you soon. As long as they don't duff the weight to badly it should be ok, The new base lancer picked up about 200 lbs, but Mitsubishi has claimed in the past that the new Evo will make the most extensive use of aluminum yet for an Evo, so enthusiasts can only hope they manage to keep the weight gains minimal.
Noya they did a refresh on the 350Z, the newer ones have a much nicer interior, though there were still some random unwelcome cables, hanging down from under the dash right above the clutch that my foot kept getting caught on in the last one I checked out.
And 2010? that is a long ways off, Hopefully Nissan will just drop the upgraded engine into a 350Z and call it a day in more like say 2008.

By then the new Camaro will be out and will own that thing on the street and strip. Won't do to bad on the track either considering it will have IRS same as the GTO. The GTO does extremely well on the road courses too.
If that wasn't out I'd much rather have an STI than a 350Z.

Gosh,
I always love the folks that post about a car that will "rule" another car, even before it hits the market. That is like saying my future son or daughter will learn his/her alphabet quicker than your 3 year old did. Keep the 6th grade logic to arguments for the play ground.

@gm0n3y
No, the GT-R is going to be twice the price of the 350z.
Honestly though, I doubt that the 330hp number will stick. 2011 models are 3 years away and by that point I would expect the VQ engine to be making something in the 350-360hp range with torque numbers in the low 300's through the use of direct injection.

By 2010/2011 even Honda/Acura will have caught up to the times....

Yeah I don't think the "old" 330hp 3.7L will fly either. I can see they going 380Z like the old Datsun 280Z and having somewhere around 350-360hp and like was said 300+ ft lbs to back that up. I wouldn't mind them getting a little radical with the body changes, as the 300ZX to 350Z was a very nice redesign. If they could do something similar this time around I'm sure they would keep the interest booming despite current and future pressure from other manufacturers.

The newest info on the 2011 Z is now saying that the engine will likely pump out 350hp, will be lighter and shorter then the current Z and have a more up to date suspension, meaning that as always, it will not only be one of the best looking cars out there but one of the best handling ones.
as far as the new checy cam, well, let's be honest here, a 3,800lbs chevy has little chance of being anything more then average on a road course, much like the mustang and is being aimed at the 1/4 mile crowd. However, I doubt it will be actually be faster then the Z if it does put down 350hp as the 2008 Z with the 306 hp engine is running bone stock 1/4 times of 13.2 (go to my350z.com for verified time slip backed up proof of that).
so one can imagine that with 50 extra hp and another 30 or so pounds of tq the Z will be nailing down high 12s on street tires stock.
and no it will not be nearly as fast as its big brother the GT-R in stock form, but with forced induction the Z should be capable of running with most any supercar out there. that is if you don;t mind dropping the 10K to 15k for a properly set up system.
