All-New Mazda6 Unveiled Before its Official Unveiling in Frankfurt

mazda6_teaser_450.jpg
Well sort of. Mazda has released a teaser image of the all-new Mazda6 sedan that will be unveiled this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new Ford Mondeo based sedan gets all-new styling that is similar to the new Mazda2.

The new Mazda6 will have two engine options a 4-cyl with about 180 hp and a 3.5L V6. The sedan is also expected to grow in size from the current generation.

Although Mazda has only released one photo of the front end of the car, it is apparent that the new Mazda6 may look better than the new Honda Accord as well as the current Toyota Camry. What do you think?

All-new Mazda6 to Debut at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show

Hiroshima, 07th August 2007. Mazda Motor Corporation will showcase the world premiere of the all-new Mazda6 (known as the all-new Mazda Atenza in Japan) at the 62nd annual Frankfurt Motor Show to be held from Tuesday, September 11 through Sunday, September 23, 2007.

The Frankfurt Motor Show press days are September 11 and 12, and the public days are September 15-23. Mazda will hold its press conference on Tuesday, September 11, at 13:45 (local time).

The all-new Mazda6 arrives as a full redesign of Mazda’s first model to embody the Zoom-Zoom product philosophy, offering a thrilling drive to all those who still remember the love of motion first experienced as a child. Following the all-new Mazda2, the new Mazda6 is the second Mazda new generation product to evolve to the next stage, further deepening the emotional connection between man and machine - Mazda calls it “Kizuna”.

Inheriting Mazda’s tradition of responsive handling and performance that has become recognized around the world and evolving the original model’s distinctive design and exceptional functionality, the all-new Mazda6 takes a step forward in quality and offers strengthened environmental and safety performance. The result is an exciting and delightful experience that only the all-new Mazda6 can deliver.

Brent:

I've said it before and I'll say it again: anything looks better than the new Saturn L-Series... I mean Honda Accord.

rene:

looks like the joker of batman.

BLC:

I think the teaser looks pretty good. Hopefully the 3.5L will give the new 6 a bit more grunt. I thought the current V6 was a bit underpowered for a car company with a motto of "zoom zoom" when I drove it.

Jeff:

Aparently Mazda isn't gonna compete with Honda and Toyota for the ulgy car award. I'm a GM fan and have to say I actually like the front of this car.

Hard to say tho, if this car is nice or the Honda's and Camry's are just so ulgy that this one looks good. Probably a bit of both, but good going Mazda. Too bad its based on a Ford platform.

tleavit:

Looks like a direct knock of of the Lexus IS250/IS350 almost strait up.

Alex Greene:

Mee like... :)

Wes:

Jeff,

It's actually a plus that it is based on a ford platform today. I would not have said that a few years ago, but the quality of Ford light vehicles is much better today than in the 90's. Now, for a stab at GM, lets hope when they release the new Camaro that it isn't a piece of junk like the old late 90's and 2000+ model Camaro.

Neko:

Remember it's from a Ford Europe design, where Ford is tops, not a Ford NA design. It's kind of like how the Volvo C30 is basically a Focus, but it's a Euro Focus, not a NA Focus.

Bond:

If it looks anything like the Ford Mondeo in the latest Bond file... Mazda should have a winner on its hands.

A:

Certainly has potential, I'll reserve judgment until I see the rest of the car. I'm worried that, like most cars in its segment, It has grown fatter as it ages

Travis:

tleavit: what are you smoking, the Grilles both upper and lower are totally different on this car, trapezoid vs triangle for the uppers, and Bisected 5 opening vs non Bisected 3 opening for the IS250, the Headlights are narrower on the Mazda as well.

If I were to say anything about what the new 6 looks like from the front it would be that I can see just a taste of Mazda RX-8 hiding in there. Mixed with some of the styling cues from the Hakaze concept without the whole front end being painted silver.

I think it looks pretty handsome so hopefully it will do well.

And the Ford Mondeo chassis is not a bad thing, Though kind of a surprise, the Current Euro Focus rides on the 3 chassis, and the current edge and siblings all ride on a stretched Mazda 6 chassis. So for the most part the trade seems to be good stuff trickling down from Mazda into Fords product lineup.

Darmok:

I want to know if this is a 2008 or 2009 model. The related stories contradict each other. However, being announced in a month would seem to suggest a 2008. Maybe a spring arrival to dealerships?

Jeff:

Wes,
I'm starting to doubt the 09 Camaro will even be produced a this point. I'm hoping they change the body of it. To me it looks like the love child of a 69 Camaro, a newer Caddy.

As for the late 90's Camaro's they were alot better than the mid to late 80's. In fact I own a 97 Camaro SS and totally love it, only problem I have is about every 2-1/2 - 3 years the alternator goes out. Best part is smoking all the rice rockets that people dump tons of cash into, then get owned by a stock Camaro (the car is still in factory original condition).

As to the "based on a Ford chassis", all I can say is I know people that have owned Ford's and will never again. I know people that feel the same about Chevy and Toyota. In my circle of family and friends the Ford's needed the most work and had the loudest complains from the owners.

Like I said the styling on this car is nice, I like it, as for the Ford parts, its a new car so time will tell as to quality (like all other new vehicles).

Its getting to a point where its all luck of the draw as to whether the vehicle will last. You can pick a good one off the lot or possibly get the lemon that was right next to the good one. Only major difference these days is overall performance.

Jimmy:

I for one like it. I have never had any problems with them like some people tend to have. And to tell you guys the truth about this car it is a Euro Ford design platform.

This car is going to be based on the Ford Mondeo aka Contour from 1995-2000 that is still produced in Europe and is one of their best selling cars as well. At least it looks like it.

Also the 3.5 V6 is the DuraTec 24 Valve that is in the 2008 Linclon MKZ so hell yea it will have a lot more power. It will be stock at least 250HP/250 tourqe. As you know with the MKZ, twin turbos pick it up to 415HP/400 tourqe.

I for one love my Ford. Don't know about the ppl who have problems. I think if you take care of it, no matter what car, it can last forever.

oj:

Bear:

Get off the Ford platform idea. Mazda has categorically stated that despite the rumours that it is a unique Mazda developed platform!
