According to the guys over at HyundaiExchange.com, the new flagship Genesis sedan is going to be powered by a 380HP V8. Hyundai's R&D boss, Hyun-Soon Lee provided the stats on the 4.6L V8 to a group of Korean executives.
A concept form of the Genesis sedan was shown earlier this year at the New York Auto Show. The production version of the new RWD luxury Hyundai is expected to bow this fall.

Any ideas on the pricing of this thing?

It's going to sit right above the Azera, so pricing should be lower 40's.
Hopefully the same V8 will make it into the RWD coupe they are going to release soon.

I just had an orgasm. I heard it would have a V8 with slightly more than 300 hp, so I was expecting 320ish. But this thing has all the power of a CLS550! And we already know it has a stiffer chassis than a 5 series, and all the rest. This was already an impressive car, but even if this specific V8 was just on a sport version and the base V8 has 320ish hp, Bravo Hyundai!
THIS is what American automakers need to be doing. Just skip the part where they stop sucking, which is what they are doing now, and go straight to building good cars.

That is looking great...just hope it has good steering feel and rides more like a Infiniti than a Toyota/Lexus, but this is not likely. In any case, looks great on paper.
I wonder when Hyundai will create its own luxury division, to follow Acura, Lexus and Infiniti. Any ideas?
Daira? Hylex? Dairi?

Are we rattling off names for a Luxury Hyundai now? I think they should go with something unexpected. It'd be both easy and a little cheap to just give the brand a name that is derived from a Korean word for luxury or wealth or something. In fact I think they should fully move away from classic sounding luxury names and go with something a little more newish. Harkening to old days will attract old customers, and old-age Korea was not exactly a powerhouse.
Naming a new car brand is more about image than most anything else. Mercedes, BMW and Audi for instance all bring to mind cutting edge technology and engineering against a backdrop of old Europe. Think of an S-Class in a picture with the background being the city of Munich. With Ferrari, Tuscany and Rome come to mind.
But then go to Japanese brands. Lexus and Infiniti both remind you of high technology, as if you could imagine a car sitting in the middle of a server room, filled with fiber optic cables and blinking lights.
Korea? Not much comes to mind other than Starcraft, Blizzard Entertainment, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. Tough call.
If a Luxury Division of Hyundai is to be launched, it will need to be named in an original fashion. Something that will just stand out.
But now we know how my mind works, because all I can think of is "pwnage" and "nOOb." Man I have been playing to much World of Warcraft recently. That also explains this pile of work on my desk....

Good looking Lexus but too bad that they will completely change it to something boring as hell in production model (probably).

@vince:
More like an infinity/nissan suspension is terrible. extremely weak springs in the back and the shocks seem to only work when nobody is in the back seet. i've drivven j30, i30, maxima, and all do the same...

Toyota called and said that they want their Camry back.
that's so funny - but very true.
king of ironic the japanese are getting copied now, after all the time they have copied the germans.
Hyundai really needs to employ some of it's own designers if it wants to be taken as seriously as it thinks it is.

I've read millions of posts on this and have to answer this - everyone keeps touting that hyundai should "rebrand themself" like honda did with acura, nissan/infinity, toyota/lexus....but dont you realize Hyundai motor group is already that way-> Hyundai/Kia. The obvious difference is kia is actually the lower line, the way it really should be with the master company being the "flagship".
That said - I'm a go fast, high quality sports car nut-all the way down to cfm efficiency on turbo maps. Realize when I say this car is amazing. The Tau V8 engine is one of the most efficient and advanced motors to date completely designed in-house by hyundai (thieir first). The car itself is way overbuilt and offers features and performance (i'll let you read the million posts about all the "toys") as standard that are normally found in cars costing $50k+, and this is going to be acheived around $35k! There are times when car comapnies build cars that try and break into a new market and though the manufacturere fails to suceed, the car itself is phenominal. Mark my words - if this car takes off hyundai will raise the price. For instance remember when miata debuted?
Ive owned several of the break through cars...80's Nissan 300zx turbo (snickered at, but shocking the euro world with its numbers), 90's mitsu 3000gt VR4 (twinturbo AWD) - a car way ahead of its time offering equipment being engineered into the finest of exotics even by todays standards. And now I own a mazdaspeed6, a sedan that tried to take on the audi market, and was discountinued, but had all the features of the audi+++ and was bought new for $22k! (they were all heavily discounted). Now its hyundai's turn, and though they might not bridge the gap with thsi car, the car itself is a phenominal feat of accomplishment packaging a $50k car into a $35k package, delivering the numbers, options and even looks of the class its trying to succeed in.
Many of you seem to be stigmatized by branding, which goes to show how much advertising has traumatized us. Hyundai used to be crap I'll agree (remember the $8000 kia sophia with free gas for life), but they have consistenetly improved and proven their reliability and quality since then. Two close family memebers own one (Kia Sorrento / Hyundai Santa fe) with no issues (well one had chrome door handles that were piting - but they live at the beach - go figure....yet kia stands behind them and keeps replacing them, with no qualms.
In my opinion, this car will fall in this order (based on quality, options and reliability - but not including price)
BMW>Audi>=Lexus=Genesis>Mercedes
If you dont believe me pick up a car and driver, then pick up a consumer reports, and last but not least test drive one.
For price though its at the top of the list!
