According to AutoTelegraaff Audi is going to release the Q7 V12 TDI in the second half of 2008. The V12 version of the Q7 packs 500 horsepower and propels the large SUV from 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.
The new V12 diesel engine is going to be the most powerful diesel engine ever offered in a production vehicle. Considering how large the engine is, it still manages to only consume 11.9 litres per 100 km and it meets Europe's new 2010 emissions standards.
There is no word if the SUV will be offered in the U.S.

Sweet Jesbus 1000 Nm of torque? at 1750 rpm? that is roughly 740 ft lbs of torque, not as much as I had expected but still a totally insane figure. I mean a Semi Truck usualy has between 1200~1700 ft lbs of torque. And less hp than this Audi.

It must have a quasi-semi-truck transmission then. The engine block is probably iron, as par the course for diesels (apart from the million dollar Audi Le Mans car), the transmission must be another heavy weight iron thing. I wonder how much more this car weights than the original version.
Is it a 6 speed transmission? With a decent overdrive, It could apparently keep 60mph at 1000 rpm, and with a decent low gear it could tow a a big fishing boat through various lakes, rivers, the whole deal...if the monoblock chassi can ever handle such a thing, that is (But then again that is why people would buy a Toyota Thundra, I guess).

Now, if they'd put that engine in the R8 I'd go into debt gladly for it. Or the A4. I'd be fine with either.

All that power, 5500lbs, and it still gets 19.8 MPG? God I love diesels...
It's just too bad though that if they actually do sell this in the US that it will end up costing +$100K.

I find it a little ugly too. Maybe since they're going for a tractor engine, then why not go for the tractor look then?
Any way, this grille is too big...defnitely looks like it belongs to a tractor.

The white one on the front page sure reminds one of Audi's

A tractor engine? Are you still living in the 20th century? Diesels may not be used in America, in Europe they can appreciate the diesels for what they are: great engines. I prefer a diesel above a petrol engine and I'm not the only one. But the idea that a diesel is a tractor engine is very old-fashioned, I'm surprised people still think that way (even in America).
