2010 Ford Mustang Spy Photos...The Mustang Gets a New Front End

2010mustang.jpg
Brenda Priddy & Co. has caught what looks like a test mule of the 2010 Ford Mustang. Although the front end is heavily camouflaged, it is apparent that Ford is working on revisions to its popular pony car.

It has been rumored that the new Mustang is going to adopt some of the styling themes from the Giugiaro Concept Mustang that was shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show last December.

Either way it looks like Ford is going to aggressively update its Mustang to keep it competitive with the upcoming Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger. The next Mustang will start production in early 2009 and sales will start shortly there after. It is also expected to have the new BOSS 5.7L V8 as an option.

Noya:

Sure, it looks a little more aggressive, but it looks like a cheezy HotWheel with no distinctive cut lines.

Hate:

Ford will never be able to win against camaro and dodge, if they do, theirs still the corvette which is top of the line for its price!

Darmok:

You can't tell anything from that picture. It might as well be some random guy with a current Mustang coving the front end with trash bags.

The Guigiaro Mustang looks pretty awesome though. I hope it's something like that except for the tail lights area.

rene:

a 'whatever' update on a otherwise forgetteble vehicle.

Maybe Ford should make a Modeo based Mustang. It will drive well and meet some environmental criteria without resourting to foam/seat padding made from recycled shaving cream.

Torgo:

I dunno, I think the current Mustang is at least the best looking one since the early 70's. The late 70's and on looked positively horrid, so there was no place to go but up, and they came up with a very nice look. They shouldn't change it yet.

However, I must admit that I would never buy a Ford with my own money, and that new Camaro looks nothing short of awesome.... if I ever make a car payment again, it will be for that new Camaro

WS:

I'm not really a fan of the Camaro's "chop top" look...I still think the Mustang is generally more pleasing to the eye. The Camaro concept has a look that seems a bit "forced" to me...like some designers fresh out of school were trying to update the old Camaro, but couldn't quite capture the spirit of the original.

Svtman:

HATE: Why do you think Chevy and dodge stopped building the camaro and firebird??? It's because the mustang outsold them 2 to 1 and no one wanted them....

Oh and the Corvette is for a different market. PLEASE think before you post next time..

jeremy:

to say this car looks good or bad is like most things...within the eye of the beholder. all you people who care not to think while typing and worse yet, while posting should stop, breathe and understand that there are people whos job it is to design cars. i am certain they used to diverse group of test subjects who they utilized to represent the masses. so...in closing quit being so forcefully opinionated and better yet stop trying to predict the success of a car. especially if its still in prototype form. cheers*

Erric:

Why is Ford worried about camaro and dodge ?
They should be more worried about Toyota and Honda.

Gary:

Erric: What cars do Toyota and Honda have to compete with the Mustang? None, that's why people are saying Dodge and Chevy.

Hyundai will be the one Ford needs to look out for if they come out with 300hp RWD coupe in 09.

Chevy has said a couple of times that the Camaro may never make it out if they can't meet the MPG's they need with it.

teldar:

Noya

Are you sure you looked at the picture? No distinctive lines and looks like HotWheelz?

You ever play with HotWheelz when you were a kid?

Wait, you're only 24. You are still a kid.....

WS:

I wish more cars looked like Hotwheels...they might sell better.

Ryan:

hey svtman, how about YOU think before you post and flame someone else:

"Why do you think Chevy and dodge stopped building the camaro and firebird??? "

oh gee...hmmm...i dont know, maybe because dodge never made the firebird? it was pontiac...A GM COMPANY...so anytime you want to start taking your own advice, feel free.

Eddie:

I'm all for redesigns, especially in this case where the Camaro and Challenger look much better, IMO, but do we really need more powerful, fuel inefficient engines? Does everyone remember why the Ford Interceptor got scrapped? Because it was unnecessarily powerful and most likely had gas mileage only a Hummer H2 would envy.

David:

You people talk about fuel economy. Muscle cars aren't about that. Yes Chevy can easily hit 18 and 28 MPG if they want to with the new Camaro. Or higher. All depends on the gearing and whether the new Camaro will get cylinder shutoff technology. The 5.3L V8 currently used in the Monte Carlo SS has it. And that might be the base V8 for the Camaro, granted, with a bit more horsepower.

And the Mustang sold more because it was cheaper. It always has sold more because its the car every dad buys their 16 year old girl who wants a sports car and 30-35 year old female secretaries buy to get a sports car. This was who it was designed for back in the 60s. The vast majority of Mustangs out there are V6s.

However the Camaro has always appealed more to the high performance crowd and has a much more even number of V8s vs. V6s. It's always cost a little more but always performed better as well. About the only times the Mustang had an edge was with the late 80s fox bodies because they were lighter and the 2003 Cobra because it was supercharged (it also cost a lot more than the SS/WS6 too though).

I personally can't wait for the new Camaro. That new Mustang look still looks horrible to me. I hate the current one because its still too boxy. Not as much as the old one though at least. Some of the Roush body kits out there look pretty good but for what a Roush or Saleen costs you can buy a Vette.

Ron:

American car companies need to stop making the "retro" look. Sure, its great the first year, because of the nostalgia, but that quickly fades away and your stuck with a design of yesteryear. PT Cruizer, Camaro, Mustang. They all look awful. Start looking into futuristic designs and stop living in the past.

Chris:

Eddie:

We don't neeeeeed cars at all. You buy what you want, and I'll by what I want at the price I am willing to pay, and lets stop dictating what others need.

If you want to dictate and enforce what people need move to Cuba, Venezuela, or the UK, and participate in politics. That communist crap doesn't belong in the USA.

Ozric:

I have worked at an assembly plant as an engineer for years. When we run the first builds of a completely new model , engenering, many times, will put extra pieces of plastic on the front and back of the vehicle, and or put on tail lights and headlamps that are of the incorrect shape and size, then cover the nose and tail with camouflaged so that the shape and look of the vehicle are heavly distorted looking. This is done to keep the look of the vehicle out of sight as long as possable. Long ago, during one of the re-designs of the Ford Taraus, I saw a test mule with a Tempo front clip straped onto the front of the vehicle and the tailights camouflaged and Tempo emblems on the vehicle. I wish people would stop trying to make making news and judgments everytime the see a vehicle in camouflage. These pictures mean absolutly nothing. They are not what the vehicle is going to look like most of the time.

Peanut:

Hey Dudes !!!!
Here is the heads up

The new Mustang will borrow heavily from the new 2008 Ford Falcon/Orion platform currently in development in Australia. Google the spy pics of the new 2008 Falcon GT to get an idea.
This will have a control blade independent rear suspension and a all new front suspension system that was designed off the Australian Ford Territory RV. This set up will rock.
Finally we will have a Mustang that can handle and the chassis will be a generation ahead of anything GM has.

Ozric:

Peanut:

How do you know what GM has ? Have you had the chance to look under a production Camero ? No, because there are none. You have no idea what GM has, because it does not exist yet in production. The Camero's that were displayed at the auto show were hand built, most likely at the GM Tech Center, some built for show and some built for testing purposes, These are not represenitive of what will go into production. Thousands of changes will take place on the Camero before it even sees an assembly line.

Mike:

SVTman is an idiot... a total complete moron

You talk about people watching their posts and you put down Chevy and Dodge building a firebird and camaro. Dodge doesnt build GM cars... are you inbred or something??

I think the new Camaro looks like hell. The only attractive mustang lately was the italian redesign, since the italians know how to make beautiful cars.. Ford and GM do not.

The corvette doesnt know what it is... has the Ferrari front end, Viper sides and the Corvette assend. Plus the fit and finish on those cars are horrible, the rattle and fall apart like nobodies business.

Too bad all the american cars are junk now... they just throw pieces from other cars together and act like its a supercar.

Peanut:

Hey Ozric

I know what GM has as unlike you I have been paying attention to what they are doing. The Camaro is based on the Holden Commodore AKA Pontiac G8 platform. This platform is in production and thousands of them drive the streets of Australia every day. The Camaro will have this suspension / platform regardless of how it looks.
The current Ford RWD platform is already equal to this in handling but will go 1 step ahead with the new 2008 Falcon/Orion platform that will feature a all new front end to compliment the already excellent control blade rear end. This will form the basis of the RWD projects in the USA.
When journalists get to drive one of these babies in early 2008 you will be eating humble pie :)

Ozric:

Peanut,

I work inside GM. I know what GM has in the works from the inside, and unlike you, I don't make assumptions based on what is currently in production elsewhere. Just because it is in production in Australia does not mean it will be the same in the US. This car will not be built in Australia and will not be a import & rebadge like the GTO was. If you remember, the Pontiac Aztec and Buick Rendezvous were built on the same platform, same assembly line and had two completely different rear suspensions. I have worked on launch teams for several vehicle launches over the years that are on common platforms, and I have also seen wild differences in suspension setups on different models using the same platforms. GM just may surprise you when the Camero gets to production. For the time being, why don't you get some cold, hard proven facts about the Camero before making all the wild claims that you make. So far all you have told us is what people do in Australia.

Brandon:

Why should FORD CHEVY AND DODGE worry about each other they should be worried about the (Foreign Cars)

Rawosn:

look everyone that posted in this forum the Giugiaro Concept Mustang is "key word" a "concept" i do think that Ford motor company will have to change the mustang a good bit and in this direction rumor has it that the camaro will rock out 400 HP in Z28 and around 300 HP on V6 models compared to the 300 on the 05-08 mustangs GT and 210 on the V6. Yes i am a mustang fan boy but I also give The camaro it respect seeing that it has out powered the mustang for blow for blow for many years
P.S.
why talk about the firebird the firehawk was so much faster just a thought.

cecil68:

Why do you people continue to talk about the Camero? GM has had concepts of it out for 5 or 6 years now and have you seen any in production? on the streets so until the actually produce one how can you compare a concept to what ford has already in the market place?

uncuncunc:

its the most awesome mustang since the 60's and since the '05....................the corvette sucks dick

Camaros Blow!!!:

Camaro Suck Ball Sacks!!!

nik:

awesome

Nate:

Personally I hope that the rumor about the 2010 mustang looking like the Giugiaro Concept is false. Front looks decent, but I don't really like the glass roof or tail light positioning at all.
The Camaro and Challenger look OK, but not great. They tried the retro look, but failed by making the headlights and grill too small in proportion to the front of the car.

I have to say, though that the grill on the Challenger is a nice change from the four bar grill design that they wore out by putting on absolutely every other vehicle that they make.

Meatnpotatoes:

OK first of all im am soooooo glad that the chevy camaro and dodge challenger are coming out. they will only make the MUSTANG that much better. competition always does that. second i dont care who u are or what you like but u have to be happy that we are living ina world again that has multiple awesome musclecars. LET THE MUSCLE WAR BEGIN.

Tek29:

lol at all of the people (peanut, ozric) mainly who cannot even spell the name of the car correctly its 'Camaro', you work at GM eh?

kira nicole:

i absolutely LOVE the model of the 2010 MUSTANG. The body style is simply flawless. It has a sleek, mysterious, but very captivating look which makes it appear to be very expensive. Every year they seem to getting a more classier look. But of course we all know it to be a fast car that can be a show car in races...I own a mustang, they are my favorite car and i cant wait till this beauty hits the streets...it's going to get so much ATTENTION ATTENTION!!! ;)
