Al V:

It could have 500 horsepower. It still fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch and then some.

It looks somewhat like my Matrix, but suffering from a bad batch of steroids, and lacking any styling at all.

I've seen a growing number of recent cars, from the boxy Scion to the Honda Element that seem to have thrown styling to the wind. Granted they don't look like any other wind-tunnel derived body style, but I think they lack style in general.

Alexvrb:

I don't like the hood. The intake scoop is ok, but the wannabe cowl induction look on either side doesn't do anything for me. The rest of the front and sides don't look terrible, although they've got to do something with the rear end. Especially that nice ramp they glued above the rear glass.

vkn:

The Impreza/WRX has been about the ugliest car on the entire market for 15 years now. And it seems to actually get uglier and uglier every time they update it. And every magazine including the "import" mags bitches about it every time.

Yet, look how well it sells. So much for the looks are most important argument on car sales.

Moreover, the WRX sells because of acceleration. Not steering feel (terrible), not good road handling (its more rally than sportscar), not an interior that isn't crappy, but because of its acceleration stats...

This car is lighter with almost 30% more power -- it will have much better acceleration stats.

Biil Owens:

Content wise they seem to have packed it pretty well. I would like to see a simpler more organic shape. It should lose about 500 pounds.

Remy LeBeau:

Standard Features include

-Driver and Front passenger airbags, side window curtain airbags and driver inflatable knee blocker
-Chill Zone beverage storage cooler
-Illuminated cup holders

..........explain to me how any of those add to performance? Hell, the extra weight from the half-a-dozen airbags will slow it down.

SuperMopar:

I like dodge, so i'm always a bit biased but the berry bonds steroid look is i think "anything but cute". (which is good, i hate cute stuff). i can't wait to see how it does against other cars in the category because it certainly looks way better (maybe with the exception of mazdaspeed 3, that is a lame car on photos but standing next to it, i got shivers).

so, where's focus svt? are we ever gonna see that one again? if i remember correctly that car always came on top in tests by a hair, but it did. i hope they bring that car back once the european version arrives and power it with the mazdaspeed engine. then we wold have something...

and yea, capslock and shift keyes are the luxury i can't afford

rene:

22.95 any one?
Awfull. Noisy, Crude. Did this car inspire them to go and shop in China?

Jose Morales:

What in the **** are you guys complaining about this car is so cheap under $23k for this kind of power basically thats what your paying for the engine, brakes and suspension, everything else is free, who cares what the outside of your car looks like if from the inside you have alot of power and torque on command, it will just piss people off that you have a fast ugly car that they hate on constantly, honestly $23k is chump change, what else can you expect, their equation is to add performance for value, did you not read the press release?

on a side note this car looks more unique then those asian cars and actually has alot of functionality in it.

Jonathon:

I drove a Caliber as a rental several months back. Not only is it ugly, but it's gutless, it gets terrible fuel economy for a compact, and the inside is an ergonomic nightmare. I guess the SRT4 fixes one of those things, though.

rene:

Not to mention the agricultural controls/dails, a Lada is US$7000, a Geely is US$6000, and a Landwind is US$8000. So i gues i, the ****, am complaining about US$16000-odd.

Noya:

A low-price Domestic turbocharged car with a cast crank/rods/pistons...I feel sorry for the schmoe who picks one of these up just outside of warranty coverage.

You would have to be an idiot not to pony up just a tad more cash for a Mazdaspeed 3 or WRX.

That interior is attrocious along with the wanna-be hick truck styling.

I'm not a fan of low-quality cars (domestics), but GM is leaps and bounds ahead of the other big two in trying to make a slightly competitive product.

so, where's focus svt? are we ever gonna see that one again?

No. The European focus which shares underpinnings with the Mazda 3 and Volvo S40(?) is deemed much too expensive to sell in the US market (not helped by the low quality reputation of the US Focus).

Moreover, the WRX sells because of acceleration. Not steering feel (terrible), not good road handling (its more rally than sportscar), not an interior that isn't crappy, but because of its acceleration stats...

Not to mention all wheel drive (which helps with handling), which no other car in its class has. Add the plethora of aftermarket parts that net you $50k+ sports car performance for $5k in parts and proven mechanicals (forged crank), not to mention the rally champion heritage and THAT is why the WRX sells.

Dane:

i think it wont be that bad... when you consider that the engine is build on a mitsubishi design and they did drop it right down so that it would tak emore of an agressive stance it kinda makes you forget about the fact that is looks like ass... that said... from the numbers here it looks like it will be a ver good car for a very good price...

now all the asian fanboys and euro fanboys are going to ahte on it... but in the end it comes down to the numbers and the price... of course its not going to beat a corvette or a GT-R on the track... but look at the price!

and again please remember that the "world Engine" technology is lifted straight from mitsubishi take into consideration that this car will give you every single penny worth of performance that you paid for.

and one more thing... i drive a honda... and in a lot of ways... the quality is pretty much the same... i mean chryslers biggest problem (transmissions that suck) has been dealt with and is no longer a problem... the build quality is up to par and if your buying a car like this YOU ARENT BUYING IT FOR FUEL ECONOMY!

one more thing... this car doesnt have a racing heritage... but again... for that price it doesnt need to... when we start to see some real world numbers we will see that it wont be much behind a WRX or a Evo for a fraction of the price... and i wont be surprised.

to everyone who buys a car for its image... get a bently or a BMW... for the people who actually care about the performance for the price (Value)... get a car like this or a viper or a corvette.

Noy:

You're right. I assumed it was the same Neon SRT mill. It appears this new one has a forged crank and connecting rods (i guess it needs it with their 100k mile warranty LoL)

The Vettes interior has moved up with the $4000 leather package, but it still feels cheap for a $50k+ car (I've looked at one). The Vipers interior look just about like this $22k Calibers interior....which is quite sad. Personally at the above cars prices, I would be looking into Caymans/911s and the new M3.
