This year's SEMA show is still a little more than three months away, but word has already broke that Toyota is going to unveil three new models at the show. The aging Corolla is finally going to be redesigned, an HD Tundra Concept that will be used to gauge interest in a Heavy-Duty Tundra and an FJ Cruiser with a removable hardtop will debut.
The biggest debut will probably be the Corolla, since it is now known if the other two models will be produced. The Corolla has been due for a redesign for quite a while now, but was delayed for many reasons. One of them being the current Civic that when it was introduced forced Toyota to rethink the new Corolla. This time there will not only be a sedan, but a hatchback/ coupe will also be offered. The hatchback/ coupe could be named the Blade, since it is rumored that the Matrix, which is essentially a Corolla wagon is going to return as a five-door hatchback with a new name.
The HD Tundra will be a Heavy-Duty Diesel Dually version of the new Tundra. The truck is only a concept and is not officially named. It is being presented in order for Toyota to gauge the demand for a bigger more powerful Tundra. It has been reported that Nissan and Toyota are questioning entering the HD truck market. It is not known what engine will be under the hood of the truck, although it could be something from Toyota's commercial truck division, Hino. It will not be a hybrid, so don't get your hopes up.
The third model that Toyota is going to unveil is a FJ Cruiser Convertible concept. Aftermarket versions of the FJ Cruiser with the top chopped off have already been touring the auto shows. It is rumored that for Toyota to go through the trouble to design a FJ Cruiser without a top is a lot of work. Therefore this concept version is likely a production version in disguise. We will have to wait to see. Lets hope that Toyota can make it look better than the aftermarket versions (shown above).

I think that FJ cruiser could just about win an ugly contest with an Avalanche

Except the FJ Cruiser would still be running long after the Avalanche is dead and buried. Ha ha ha, I said the Avalanche is buried, get it? F*cking stupid Americans!

Right..... Considering the FJ is a piece of crap sucking up premium gasoline only and the looks scream a retard designed me! Who cares if the FJ will outlive an avalanche in terms of servicing and maintenance because it probably wont but your only excuse will be it's Toyota they last forever. Uhuh, right. Most people don't keep their cars for more than 10 years and if you do then you shouldn't be buying overpriced crap like this.

HD Tundra....that would be cool. Might even take my mind of of that RAM 2500 I'm looking at if they start producing them in the next year or two. Can't wait to see what they do.

Hmmm, well I got a friend that has Tundra, has had it for about 8 months now and just returned it to the dealer under the "Lemon law", being a strret queen you wouldn't expect the transmission to die repeatedly. guess that "Toyota Quality" isn't so great. When the cars were weak they went a long time, once they started adding power seems they can't really handle it.
I've noticed that Toyota (including Scion), Honda and Nissan seem to be in a competition for who can make the ulgiest vehicles. With the new Camry and FJ, Toyota for the win.
I still can't understand how people can drive such nasty looking cars and trucks.
A relative of mine has a 1985 4x4 Suburban that they have really put through the paces off-roading and is still running strong after 800,000+ miles (thats not a typo, they take is across country on vacation every year, all original with only maintenance). While another relatives 1998 Camry is giving out after 135,000 miles and has been extrememly well maintained and driven softly.
Lastly, I just bought a 1972 3/4 Ton GMC 4X4, it runs and looks great, don't know of too many people that are proud to say they have a 1972 Toyota (if you can even find a 72 Toyota outside the junk yard anymore). Toyota doesn't make cars that last and people collect, they make disposable vehicles that you finance, drive for a bit, then junk and finance another.

Everybody has a story to prove what someone else likes is crap.
Buy what you like, I don't hold it against people that they buy GM.
If thats what floats your boat, go for it.
BTW, GM makes the ugliest cars on the road, with the exception of the vette and maybe the Aura.

Cool Cat,
It seems like you have some issues, talking crap to a group of people that didn't do anything, GET A LIFE MAN.
Anyway, the only real way the HD competes is if it has competitive power to the domestics. Needs to beat one of the three in torque and hp. Would be nice to have another choice.

Zippy, you are correct that everyone has their own experiences, and I was stating that in mine, the whole "Toyota's run forever" is far from the truth.
As far as looks go, can you honestly tell me that anything GM makes is even close to as ulgy as say the: Tundra, Tacoma, all the Scions, new Camry, Prius, Yaris, the Honda Element, Honda Accord, Nissan 350z, Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, and Honda Ridgeline? I'm not talking minivans because IMO all minivans are nasty regardless of the make.
I know opinion on a vehicles looks are a matter of taste but come on, be serious. There are a few GM cars I don't like, but still think that are not as bad as most of the imports.

I find GM's styling to be beyond bland, boring, and copied throughout the model lines. It just isn't original, but is better than 5 or six years ago.
That being said, yes, the Japs right now are really reaching trying to come up with something unique. Some of it is quite ugly, but not all of it in my opinion.
Like I said, I just rented a Aura for a week on business (ran away from that ugly impala in the lot!) and was impressed. If GM can keep up that kind of effort they might be going somewhere. Still a couple of cheap bits in the interior, but overall, a big step forward.

Jeff,
comes to taste I guess. I have to say what GM makes might not be hideous, although some of it is, but it is the same damn style they have been making for over a decade. They don't change much. It just gets a little bland after a while. I honestly don't think most of what toyota makes is ugly. I like the trucks, the new ones look tough. Even the 350Z and the G35 are not bad looking cars.

Wes,
It really does come down to taste, I look at some of the trucks out there today and I don't really see tough at all. The 72 GMC I just got looks like it could climb anything, the 06 Chevy 1500 I have (2-wheel drive, street queen) has a mean look to it. I think the Toyota's look like depressed bulldogs, the new Chevy's I don't care for and will take some getting used to, the Ford's have been weak for a long time, the Dodges need some restyling what started nice in 95 has really worn out. The only 07 truck I have to say is decent is the Titan, and I don't even really like Nissan.
The Domestics are going through a nostalgia phase, trying to relive the time when they ruled the roads. Some of the new cars are a disappointment (New "GTO" looks like a Grand Prix/Accord mix). I'm all for bringing back the old names but they should really do the names justice, the Malibu should NEVER have been made a sedan.
For the most part GM has been refining the bodies of the cars as opposed to a full restyle, however that has been changing, some for better, some not.
I am a GM fan (obviously) but I am not one of the ignorant people that thinks GM is better because its a GM and they can do no wrong. I prefer the domestics and of them feel GMC/Chevy are the best, but at the same time I will be critical of what they are doing.

I agree that the new gm pickups don't do much for me. The previous generation was better looking. That big nose reminds me too much of that ridiculous nose they put on thier minivans.
Too much.
Dodge is old too, time to restyle.
Fords are kinda ugly.

All automaker has one of those nerdy engineering team that comes out with ugly cars. Some how, there are people that buys them. Have anyone seem the episode of the Simpson where Homer was in charge of designing? Came out with a very expensive and equally ugly car/truck. Company went bankrupt. I wish some of those automaker goes into that same situation. Teach them a lesson!
But that's would be the difference between fiction and real life-there's always someone more stupid buying the car than the person designing it.

Jeff is super biased. I would be the first person to step in line when GM, Ford, ect(american car makers) start making quality products that look good. I am 63 years old and have owned over 40 cars. GM has gone downhill from their hayday. Jeff of course you bought a 72' GMC because it was build when GM was still making a decent product. I see Toyota landcruisers from the 60's running around, so I don't know what backwards GM crazed part of the country you hail from. Get your head out of ass Jeff, american cars have no style, class or quality. I know nobody that owns a Toyota that has had problems at ALL, don't be angry that Japan is smarter than us and are willing to work twice as hard as us to be successful. American auto makers took advantage of the American people pumping out crap for years and people just took it, mid western people kept buying Ford, GM pickups cause dady had one. Now GM, Ford are left in the dust of the advancement of the importing auto companies. Have you ever seen a new Mustang, it is made of such cheap interior parts I laughed 2 seconds into looking at one in person. Suburban, Navigator chap, crap, crap, no wonder dumb rappers buy them. Jeff stay in your little world where GM is so wonderfull. Oh yeah Toyota makes more of their cars in the United States than GM, did you know that. That's right Toytota employes more americans and puts more money in America than GM. GM makes cars in Mexico, real American Jeff
