More Spy Photos of the 2009 Dodge Challenger...This One is Silver

2009_challenger.jpg
Another civilian has spotted the upcoming Dodge Challenger undergoing testing in Michigan. The prototype seen here doesn't provide us any better views than the photos that surfaced a few weeks ago. The only difference here is that we get to see what it looks like in silver.

Darmok:

Not even close to being as cool as the 2009 Camaro, or the current Mustang even.

James:

I disagree on that. It is much cooler then Mustang. I don't care what anyone says Cam in Block engines are a must for Muscle cars. The mustang uses overhead cams and thus it really doesn't have the bottom end of the Camaro and the Challenger. The Challenger looks cool too, like the 1970 Challenger.

kw:

Until the Challenger comes out I've got to say I like the Mustang better, simply because the Mustang is available now.

However, I really, really like what I've seen of the Challenger thus far. It's form looks natural and balanced to my eyes.

I'm not a fan of what I've seen of the new Camaro, though. To me, it's nose looks too long, it's sides are too slabby, and it's corners too right angled. It makes the whole thing look heavy and clumsy. Just my .02.

gm0n3y:

I'll take the Camaro, assuming that it can transform into some crazy giant robot anyways.

Travis:

Call me Cynical but I think the Camaro is ugly as sin, I will never be able to wrap my head around how Aztec design DNA keeps filtering down into new GM products. I have a feeling I am not the only one that finds most GM designs ugly, it helps to explains their plunging sales figures of the last 5 years IMHO. I mean they have what 1 good looking car? Personaly I have a hard time calling anything they build other than the Solstice attractive.

Challenger vs Mustang should be interesting, I have heard rumors that the Challenger has IRS and Chrysler had problems getting a V6 version within $4,000 of the Mustangs base price so they were considering having a V8 only lineup starting around 30~35K. The Challenger looks far more retro than the Mustang but IMHO both are good looking, the Hemi V8's are nice kit, and the SRT-8 version should be plenty quick. For me the question is if Chrysler can keep up the fit and finish and produce a quality interior for their car to warrant the price premium it will likely command.

Chris:

Mustang engines are weak when they are single cam 2V engines because of low displacement, not because of the cam configuration.

Where OHC loses bottom end torque is when you have more than 2 valves because your cross sectional valve area increases which causes a decrease in flow velocity that is crucial to efficient cylinder filling on naturally aspirated engines (the air momentum from the high velocity continues to fill the cylinder even has the piston has already started moving upward)

Forced induction fixes that problem (look at the Cobra)

With a pressurized intake, there is no loss in port velocity with more valves so you make up the bottom end, and you also take advantage of the breathing room up up with more valves. Forced induction + 4V DOHC = win win.

Chris:

Also keep in mind the last few years we've been comparing a 346 cid 2v engine making the same or a little more power than a 281 cid 2v/4v engine.

I wish Ford would make a 351 modular engine with 4V DOHC to finally put to rest the debate between 2v cam in block pushrod engines and 4V DOHC engines.

It's just comparing bananas and oranges with that large of a displacement difference.

Meko:

Those of you with kids who can only afford around 21-24K, the 2003 M45 looked very similar in lines to this car.

Oh, and it has a 340Hp V-8 and 4 doors. The hardest thing about it is, there were only 7700 imported before they came out wiht the new design.

archie:

beauty,as always comes from chrysler.

THEY COME IN SILVER?!? COOOOOOOOL!!!
