It seems like the head guys over at Honda can't make up their minds about the next Acura NSX. The automaker released the Advanced Sports Car Concept earlier this year that was supposed to give us a glimpse of the new supercar. Well shortly after it was revealed Honda decided to go back to the drawing board because the overall design did not get the response that they were looking for. It was still rumored that we would see an actual new Acura NSX at this fall's Tokyo Motor Show. Well now it looks like that isn't going to happen either.
Honda's CEO Takeo Fukui has confirmed that the next generation Acura NSX is being delayed again and that it won't be making its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this fall.
Earlier this week Fukui also announced that Honda is delaying the introduction of the Acura brand in Japan until 2010, which may be one of the reasons why the NSX is being delayed. It is now being predicted that we may not see a new NSX until 2011 because the Tokyo Motor Show only happens every two years. The next one after this year will be in 2009, which will still be too early, since Acura will not make an appearance until 2010. Therefore hopefully by 2011 we will finally see what Honda has been working on for quite a while now. Test mules of the NSX have been spotted running laps on the Nurburgring.

They need to drop the whole AWD BS in their topline cars. The only companies who've made AWD sports (non-exotic) cars is Nissan with the Skyline and Porsche's 911, and possibly Audi if you consider the R8 a non-exotic (though it's nearly a mechanical twin of the Gallardo).
But Honda needs to start making RWD cars to really compete with Lexus and the Germans. I mean, along with Lexus/Toyota, Honda/Acura is the best all-around car company out there. If their TL was RWD it would gain them many customers (without alienating any current customers).

AWD is no BS. Certainly not in topline 100k sports vehicles.
For those who merely think in speed, RS4 beats out M3 or M5 on papers and practically are identical in straightline speed.
For many who have driven one and learned to drive it well, AWD is a lot more fun than RWD. Bottomline is that AWD is no slouch and there's a lot more engineering involved. Among those who can afford a 100k vehicle there r some who buy becuz it's an engineering marvel. At the end of the day, there is a market for it and it's not a small one, henceforth AWD sportscars exist and will continue to. All hail honda making NSX one of them.

It seems to me like the Acura design team is having some serious problems lately. Perhaps they got bit by the same bug that hit the engine people a while ago, so now they'll make comparatively slow _and_ ugly cars.
I used to be a die hard Honda fan, but lately they designs and lack of power are moving me further and further away. My last Acura will probably be the one I'm driving now. Even with the new TSX supposedly having 300HP and AWD, the 35K+ pricetag puts it being way over priced. You can get similar technology and power for less money in a WRX...
When will Honda/Acura have some sparkle in their lineup?

RS4 LoL...the nose heavy beast? A true enthusiast doesn't think in terms of just straight line speed- otherwise they would all hail GM's Z06.
AWD more enjoyable than RWD? I think NOT, ever hear of understeer?
More engineering = higher cost, more parts, more weight and less reliability.
I think AWD supercars exist because of RICH people that have no experience driving high-performance RWD cars. Hence, the safety net of AWD. I mean honestly, with yaw, traction, ABS, LSD's, the benefit of AWD in a $100k+car is pretty much zilch unless you're an inexperienced driver or you live in the snow-belt.
Would you rather have a RWD/6-spd BMW or an AWD/6-spd BMW?
You can get similar technology and power for less money in a WRX...
And have you driven each? Notice the crap interior in the Rex, the much lower resale, and the overall lower quality feel? A Subaru Legacy GT would be more comparable, and comes with a similar price.
I've driven (molested) and owned a myriad of fast cars (I'm in sales): Acura TL, CL Type-S, BMW M3, 330, M-roadster, C6 and last gen Z06, Honda S2000 2.0 and 2.2, Mitsu Eclipse GSX (modded to low 12's), Evo, Sti, WRX, Legacy GT (turbo), VR-4, 300zx TT, 350z Touring and Track, Porsche Boxster (base), Supra NA and Turbo, MR2 Turbo....
...I would take RWD any day. As a matter of fact, the Boxster and MR2 have the very best feel with their mid-engine layout.

Every platform, regardless of AWD or RWD has strengths and weaknesses that engineering has overcome and compensated for.
Understeer on RS4? LOL, to each his own, I am sorry but it still handles and drives better (imo WAY better) than the RWD s2000 that anyone may have molested, on track or during my 20min drive to work. And, I'd take that the RS4 over the 6sd RWD M3 any day. not becuz the bmw is BS, but I just like the RS4 response better. Both are great cars and I'd like to see how either platform has fallen to a category of BS.
If one about straight line speed performance RWD has an slight edge over AWD. But that even Nova would agree as a moot point. And then there are other well accepted real world or track situations where AWD would shine over RWD.
The reality is, whether anyone likes it or not, AWD is more enjoyable than RWD to a great many, and its engineering is no slouch. and keep in mind we're looking at the NSX class 100k cars, not your average TL, 330, S2000, boxster and what not. Why were these even mentioned in the first place is beyond me. There is simply no lack of great handling, fun to drive 100k sports cars that are AWD and well received.
If the thinking of "more engineering = higher cost, more parts more weight and less reliability" has any relevance, then all 2007 vehicles are inferior to the 1995 pontiac sunfire. Dont make me laugh.
Since when does non-rich people have any extensive experiences driving 100k+ RWD and AWDs anyways? I'd rather think car sales carry more BS than what can actually be bolted on an AWD.

Good, that thing looks ugly and nothing like a NSX.

Agree with Chris: this shouldnt be the next generation NSX. It looks as aero-dynamic as a box with some curves, and plus, whats with that really long nose? Its like someone said "if the Mercedes SLR McLaren was designed by an Anime fan, what would it look like?" Anime has every right to exist, but not in the car world. Dont really have to valid reason for that, other than the NSX concept.
