Volkswagen still remains uncertain about the fate of the new Scirocco in the U.S. First VW's U.S. operations stated that they did not want the car to come here because it would compete with the GTI. Shortly after, VW reported that no decision had been made about the fate of the car. Now there are spy photos of the car testing in California, which adds even more mystery to the situation.
The front and rear of the car are heavily camouflaged, but it is easy to see that the production version will retain many of the styling cues from the IROC Concept that was revealed last fall (pictured above). For example the honeycomb grille is almost identical to the concept.
So the question still remains...Will this car actually make it to the U.S.?
In other news, VW has announced that the automaker is going to update their logo starting with the next generation Golf. The logo will remain in the same spot, but it will grow in size and protrude out a little further.

I think it is way cooler than the first Scirocco. I hope it comes to America.
I am also hoping they come out with a retro looking microbus; have it look like the microbus but with totally updated insides.
You should check out the concepts at the VW web site. They are really nice.

I think this says something:
That VAG - Volkswagen Group - has some idea of trying to do things. They are making products - cars - to meet a demand ("some" type of demand, is a question).
However VWoA, Volkswagen of America, has no clue. They worry about this new Scirroco affecting GTI sales...buy yet VW corporate doesn't, because they are making the car in the first place.
In other words, WVoA is clueless about stepping "outside the box" with attempts to grow the brand. Does Toyota worry that Scion sales are hurting the Corolla? They just do it, sell the cars, and properly position the [new] products to meet the market.
Why not put VW's "hot rod" machines under a different nameplate still sold within the same VW dealership structure? They did indeed try that with the Phaeton...but missed the market COMPLETELY. What high-end customer would spend $90,000 and STILL have the same nameplate on the front (and rear) of the car ("VW", that is) *and* still have to deal with the same dealer structure?
But a hotrod brand just might work - the customer isn't so "anally retentive" (but still fussy).

Hmmm... with that leather "harness" and "diaper" on, this car would be a big hit "as-is" at the upcoming Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. Bring one of those babies (just as we see it in the spy photos) in for display and have dealers with order forms ready!
