In 2006 Chrysler made more cars than dealers wanted. Since the automaker had no dealers that wanted them, they stored them in various places around Detroit. Well now Chrysler is trying every way that they can to get rid of them. Deep discounts and significant rebates have not done the trick, so now Chrysler is going to allow dealers to label the new cars as "used" in hopes that people will finally buy them.
Normally a dealer must use a car as a loaner for three months before they can move it over to the used lot, but now if they use the car for just one day, the dealer can re-label it. Dealers are also going to receive an additional $2,000 discount as an incentive to use the program.
Chrysler is still going to count these cars as regular sales once the cars are moved over to the used lot.
According to recent reports of one dealer in New Mexico, a 2006 Dodge Ram went from $33,000 to $26,000 in one day.
I guess it may be a good time to hit up your local Chrysler dealer if you are in the market for a new/used car.

They should try exporting these things. Some small, third world-transitioning-to-first-world country that was once poor and is now on its way up, with a burgeoning consumer class, is sprouting up someplace and those people need stuff to buy.
Would Chrysler get away with selling these cars above cost? Probably not, but its also likely that with these cars now nearly 2 years old that they wont be sold anytime soon, marking them "used" is just going to further devalue them. Chrysler should do everything it can to just get rid of them.

You know the only single reason why american trucks sell a lot? is because there are (or there was) a lot of american willing to buy them... This cars simply dont sell anywhere else...
But IF they are very cheap and they send them to the middle east where instead of paying for gas you just make a hole in the backyard (or backsand... )

I have to disagree to some extent Raf. While I do agree there are few Germans, French(s?), Britians, Europeans in general, or Japanese or Chinese willing to buy trucks, the Middle East is a whole different story. Go to cardomain.com and just search every US truck (including SUV) you can think of: it seems a good 10% of the owners are from Dubai, Kuwait, Iraq (yes, Iraq!) or Saudi Arabia.
Granted, thats the point you made, but still, then go to African nations. There they are just happy to have cars in some places, and a truck is perfectly suited for the climate (hence the prevalence of truck-based SUVs, and the ever popular Land Rovers and Land Cruisers).
