2009 Nissan Titan Will Have a Diesel Engine...Will it Help Nissan Sell the Full-Size Truck?

Nissan is currently working on a diesel engine for its full size Titan pickup, according to Japanese newspaper Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun. The new engine is being developed with US truck and engine maker Navistar International Corp.

Navistar Corp currently supplies engines for Ford's Super Duty pickups and will supply Nissan with V8 diesel engines in 2009.

Nissan is trying to gain market share with in the full size truck market and is hoping the diesel will help them do it. Currently Nissan Titan sales are down 15 percent this year, with only 28,668 sold.

Um, did someone say it's old? All car manufacturers, but especially those from the land of the rising sun suffer when they have the oldest truck on the block.

Allen:

Actually, did not the "new" F-150 come out before the Titan, ableit barely? I agree though, Nissan needs to refresh the truck or redesign it, in order to further chip away at American trucks market share.

Obviously DaMinority:

Days maybe, but yes I believe you're right.

I think I mentioned that age hurts Japanese sales more than American, though.

Dan:

I hope they do go with a diesel in their line-up, then Nissan will finally be forced to deal with this truck's major problem and weakest link - it's problematic rear differential. Many owners have had multiple replacements, some owners having as many as 4 replacements. A diesel engine would chew through the existing rear end in no time. I can't understand why Nissan has allowed this problem to continue.

When is nissian going to increase the horse power on the titian.I think it should be increase to at lease 400 hpr. I think that Nissian needs to make the body of the Truck more masculaint better than Toyota.
