The next generation 2009 BMW 7-series has been spotted undergoing testing in Germany. The new design will be more of an evolution of the current generation with more of a muscular theme throughout. Although you cannot tell from these photos the new 7-series will adopt many of the same styling themes as the smaller 3-series.
The most noticeable changes are a longer wheelbase and a wider track. There are rumors that there will be a possible hybrid version as well as diesel versions of the new car. The infamous iDrive system is also going to be updated and the car will also use ZF's new eight-speed automatic transmission.

the butt sure looks butt ugly.
for BMW's sake.. i hope the car's headlight and tail lights are very heavily disguised that they look far different from what is intended. cos they look butt ugly.

Why are they making it bigger? It's already one of the biggest cars on the road, especially the long wheelbase version.

Remember: that rear end is probably just a stapled on part for testing purposes. BMWs always have a small test phase followed by the real deal hitting the streets, I think.
Anyway, I agree, its already a boat, why make it even bigger?

I just love this handsome saloon's very fore-skin-like front bumper....

I used to think BMW made some of the best looking cars out on the road, but the last spy photos coming out of this and the 1 series just oooze ugliness. WTH is going on at Beamer?

Dude, I finally got a chance to look at all the pictures. The badges are not even on this thing! The bumper is definitely just a filler piece. The car looks (and by judgment of the setting the photos are in) like its just in the power train and suspension testing stages. Do not get your panties in a bunch: this is not the finished car.
BTW: Chris Bangle is whats happened to Bimmer, not "Beamer," you in-the-closet BMW hater. Everyone knows the proper slang is Bimmer. Sigh. He (Bangle) also designed the CS concept though. He is actually a good designer, he is just given to much artistic freedom I think.

Well Allen:
First I'm not in the closet about hating BMW, I stated they used to make the best looking cars.
Second I couldn't give a crap what the "proper" slang is, I want to say beamer so I say beamer. Bimmer sounds stupid.
Lastly, wether this is pieced together or not, the body lines are ugly. BEAMER is going straight down hill lately.
So don't get your panties in a wad

very luxurious, powerful, modern and expensive car for people completely devoid of taste.
not to look like i hate the brand... m3 and m5 were always awesome. even 645 or m6 look very good, despite common themes. but 7s.....
the only uglier car i've seen in the past 10 years was pontiac aztec. bmw is not slowly going downhill, it's quickly falling into the abbyss of really bad taste. last generation o 7s looks like a wheelbarrow with a lot of bling-bling. actually i think wheelbarrows look better from the back...
