Spy Photographer Brenda Priddy has caught the upcoming 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 undergoing testing. This new version of the 911 will feature at least 525 horsepower and 540 lb.-ft. of torque.
The GT2 is basically a 911 Turbo that has more power, reduced weight (220 pounds) and the all-wheel-drive deleted. The car also has a bigger rear wing, a simplified front bumper, and huge gills on the rear bumper.
The new GT2 should easily beat the top speed of the Turbo, but since it doesn't have the added traction benefit of awd, it may not beat the Turbo's 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds.
Either way the new car is awesome!

As Jeremy Clarkson use to say: "... the laziest designers ever"
Its simply a super car that you can live with! use it every day, and its not gonna kill you (like corvettes, TVRs and ford GTs tend to do).

Simply gorgeous - this is a monster flat 6! I think this might actually be the first product 6-cylinder to reach 200mph! Bravo! I think this may actually do a wheel stand with so much power and weight on the rear!

Any car that reaches these kind of MPH with that kinda muscle can kill within an instance. An impact @ 30mph with no restraint produces 50g (lethal). When you start talking 200mph no restraint system built today will help. Just keep those comments to a flame war board please.

"An impact @ 30mph with no restraint produces 50g (lethal)."
That's interesting considering 60-65 only produces 60g's. I smell some anti-fast car bullshit.

First off, blessman I don't think that Mr. Fernandes was talking about "kill" in the same terms you are thinking of. I believe he was saying that the vehicle is comfortable enough that you can use it as an everyday car; it's not terrible to get in and out of, and sitting in it all day won't make you feel like crap. If you where a Top Gear fan you would understand Clarkson's humor and know that.
Second off, when are they going to start showing new episodes of Top Gear? I REALLY miss that show...The humor, the cars, making fun of 'Captain Slow'. Come on BBC and Discovery I WANT NEW EPISODES OF TOP GEAR!
Oh, and about the Porscheā¦this thing looks about as sexy as a GT3, which is like the most beautiful car ever. I'd like to see more shots of it!

Well, the g's would really depend on the rate of deceleration, just remember that the amount of force produced is proportional to the square of the velocity.

Remy:
Most beautiful car ever is a very personal question but that being said of any German car? wow.
I will agree that the 911 shape is the best the Germans have come up with, but its been around for like 40 years in more or less same form.
Personally I wouldn't even notice the GT2 if an Aston Martin Vanquish drove by at the same time...

Thanks Airrax!
Just to clarify to blessman, i was talking about handling at high speeds.. or even when you push it to the limit in terms of aceleration, braking and turning.. in a porsche you are always on top of the situation (please dont think you are a superman!). While in this other supercars that i mentioned, even experienced pilots get surprised... Have you ever seen a TVR or a Ford GT go over a bumper or out of the garage in this ramps to the street? the answer is no..it would simply get stucked.. (that also kills you, of angryness)
Airrax! TG will be back in july/august with a special! but another season is still in discussion.. BBC is trying to push the show for a more funny show and less a car show.. what isnt making Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May that happy!
Anyway its a shame for THE MOST WATCHED TV SHOW to end like this.. they already get an average of 1/4 billion people per episode (of course after aired in many countries as it is). What they want more?!!

I'll stick to a Corvette Z06 that gets 16/26 mpg, does 0-60 in .1 second slower than this (easily fixed with better tires), is comfortable to drive day in and day out, and will cost about half of this thing.
And for someone who implied that Corvette's aren't safe, you've obviously missed the safety of the Corvette's. The entire frame is a single piece of hydroformed aluminum. No welds whatsoever.
And to neosoul it won't do a wheelie. You have to have an assload of traction to be able to do one. That is typically left for cars running slicks and with suspension built to transfer weight towards the back under acceleration. A Porsche has extremely stiff suspension since they're designed to handle, not drag race.

Wow, they did a great job of integrating that Cayenne Turbo snout onto the 911. It looks okay, but I don't think it's any significant step in the looks department. Of course, 200 MPH is nothing to sneeze at.
It's just too bad so many of them will never be used to their potential (or for their purpose).

David,
Though I agree with your general comment, I would like to put a couple fine points.
1) They have passive weight transfer as the engine is located behind the rear axle.
2) The physics of forward acceleration handles quite a bit of the weight transfer, I think what you meant was to "maximize weight transfer to the back".
3) You forgot to mention that inexperienced drivers tend to spin rear engine cars more than front engine rear drive (even though that advantage is somewhat compromised in the corvette by the transmission being in the back), therefore from one handling perspective the Corvette has a significant advantage on Stuttgart's newest.
Plus, this is a 4 seater.... BA HA HA HA, ooh, I couldn't help myself... Huh, huh... Ahhhh.

For those defending the Corvette, a simple question: Would you buy it as your only car?
A lot of people have some money but not enough to stand two good cars... soh.. they gotta stick to one.
Could you live your every day life with a corvette z06??
I think this video (especialy the final part) can help with the answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Lexv73YTu4

Seems I have pissed off enough old people in that Civic article, so I'll hang here abit if no one minds? _>
Anyway, I am not sure if I agree with deleting AWD. Whats a Porsche supposed to do? Take turns. Whats AWD help do? Take turns.
Would've been nice if they just upgraded the power....

Allen,
The reasons why they took off the AWD are:
1) The porsche is so well balanced already that the gains of AWD in time races was barely enough to cover for the losses of the extra weight...
2) I read an article where more than 10 pilots were unanimous in saying that the RWD was better to drive... with the AWD go a very little bit faster, but you have less control...
bottom line is.. if you dont live in a snow place.. you dont need AWD.... but.. great part of europe and the US have snow for some months.. soh.. porsche did it..

I have to disagree about what you said with handling in mind. Why do you think Quattro made Audi famous? Because its AWD system could run turns faster than anything else (and of course the rally-race off-road prowess).
I've driven AWD cars on tracks, then drove RWD, and vice versa, and I've even put AWD next to FWD. AWD cars simply handle better. You have the front wheels pulling toward the turn, but the back wheels causing enough over steer to cancel any under steer. Plus there is the obvious added traction.
The only reason AWD isn't already hailed as the greatest thing since sliced bread is because it weighs more.

If my only two choices were the 911 and the Z06, I'm picking the Z06 everyday. Then I'm putting all the money I saved into the bank to pay for the moving van I'd have to rent to carry my dogs around.
