2008 Honda Accord Interior Spy Photos...BMW Influence?


Most of us have seen spy photos of the upcoming 2008 Honda Accord Sedan and Coupe, but only of the exterior. Well now thanks to Brenda Priddy & Co. we have one of first spy photos of the interior.

Last week one photo surfaced of the interior of a V6 Accord, but we could only see a small portion of the center stack and the steering wheel. Now thanks to the Temple of VTEC, we have a much clearer shot of the interior. This photo looks like it is from a 4-cylinder sedan, since the interior is slightly different from the interior of the V6 we saw last week.

It is also being speculated that the new Accord interior may come standard with the center LCD screen, since any navigation related buttons are missing from the dash in these pics.

Many of the readers of Temple of VTEC seem to think that Honda copied the BMW 5-series interior for the new Accord. My initial reaction was that it looks a lot like the dash in the new 2007 Acura MDX. Either way it looks like more of an evolutionary design from the current dash.

It looks far sportier than the current car, epecially with that smaller diameter wheel.

Temple of VTEC? Christ. That just screams ricer. Every car company in the world has a version of VTEC. It doesn't make your car faster. Get over it. I get tired of seeing Chevy Cavaliers and other non-Honda cars with VTEC stickers on them because of its supposed performance improvement.

If you want performance in a Honda, get a turbo. With the Civic that'll put you in the whopping low 15s, maybe high 14s. Unless of course you spend a buttload of money on top of the turbo to actually do something to the engine.

Do I smell some import hater? I think I do.

With a turbo and a cat-deleted exhaust (which I still got to pass emissions by the way), my Civic is running in the low 11s. A set of new camshafts and widening the intake valve can place me in the 10s if I really want to.

All you old American-only boys seem to forget that while displacement can gain power, there are other ways as well. And with the new Civic coming so light to start, it was easy for me to drop it down to 2000 lbs (so says the semi-truck scale).


And I cannot figure out where this rumor about spending buttloads of money to tune the car came from. In all seriosness, if I bought a 72 Camaro and dropped a new 350 crate engine in it (which, btw, I have done before), that engine easily can be $5000. I only spent about $1300 on the Civic TOTAL so far. There isnt any suspension work yet, just powertrain and interior/exterior (how I got rid of the weight).

Us budget building import tuners are just like you man: we shop at U-wrench-it for parts to. :)

Okay, so don't you remember when all the car magazines said Japanese cars were great for their simple HVAC controls.

Oh, and because they didn't go in for that silly digital dash stuff.

Funny how things change.

(For those of you who can't make the connection, I'm talking about the digital dash in the S2000, and yes, I know that it's humans actually identify speed better when it's identified in number form rather than on a sweep scale, it's hypocrisy I'm talking about)

Allen,

I do like your emphasis on weight.

However, remember that almost (I'm taking stroke related issues into account) anything that improves your engine can improve a higher displacement engine as well.

However, one thing that a larger car can't do is shrink, though it can lose a little weight here and there. Big motor guys very rarely think that way.
