2008 Ford Shelby GT Convertible Unveiled...Too Bad Only 2,300 Will be Built!

Ford has announced the addition of the Shelby GT Convertible for the 2008 model year. The new Shelby GT convertible will be powered by the same powertrain in the current Shelby GT (not the GT 500), which produces 319 horsepower and 330 lb.-ft. of torque.

The convertible comes with a new solid roll bar, unique sway bars, and a 3.55:1 ratio rear axle assembly that will improve off-the-line acceleration. The ride height was also reduced to reduce overall body roll.

The 2008 Shelby GT coupe and convertible will only come in one color: Vista Blue with silver stripes. The current colors on the coupe are limited to the 2007 model year. Less than 6,000 2007 coupes were built and even less will be built in 2008. Ford only plans on producing 2,300 Shelby GT's for the new model year.

Prices have not been announced for the new models that will go on sale this fall.

Luscious:

I still think the 04 body style is the best, especially those 04 crimson reds.

Don't the rednecks just eat these cars up, putting down deposits and paying more than MSRP?

Why not release as many as demand calls for and make a real profit?

Allen:

Because Ford is run by the same rednecks, who skip the chance to make a profitable venture and instead build trucks no one wants.

Sorry, not interested until they slide the IRS under the rear that they developed for the T-Bird on the same platform.

Ricer-Killer:

I believe you are on the wrong site. Rednecks do not drive Shelbys they drive Camaros and Firebirds. They have neither the class nor the high IQ required to appreicate such a vehicle. Car aficionados drive Shelbys not rednecks.

Richard:

You are exactly right. Rednecks don't have a clue as to what goes into a classy car like the Shelby. Just bought my 07 Shelby GT (Silver over Black), and she looks really good next to my 02 GT. By the way I paid way less than MSRP for mine, and it only had 78 miles on it when I picked it up.

I love the shelby GT, i think this car is hot!! I cant wait to get one. Your all right i think this car is toooo classy for a redneck.

Munch:

Just bought a 2008 Shelby GT convertible. Wow! It's the full package... As always, if Caroll Shelby's name is on it, you can be sure the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Yes, as has been stated ealier, this is not your "rednecks" mustang. They can't afford it, nor would they appreciate. They're happy to pay $20k less for a base GT.

I'll see you in 30 years at Barrett-Jackson...

Just bought a 2008 Shelby GT convertible. Wow! It's the full package... rides, handles, and drives better than a GT500... and this one is a "true" Shelby - Finished by Hand at Shelby Autos in Las Vegas. Yes, as has been stated ealier, this is not your "rednecks" mustang. They can't afford it, nor would they truly appreciate it. This car costs more than two base Mustang GT's and it only has 19 more hp than one of them. If you question the math (which many will), then you just don't get it. This is a numbered and signed limited-edition piece of history.

Given that the past 100+ years of automotive history are a good predictor of the future... despite the $4 gas, I'll see you in 30 years at Barrett-Jackson...
