The 2008 Saab 9-3 SportCombi Pics Have Been Released

GM has released the first official photos of the new 2008 Saab 9-3 SportCombi (the wagon version of the 9-3). In addition to the new sheetmetal, the 9-3 line will get a new 255hp in the Aero version, new sound system, leather and new Xenon cornering headlights.

Pricing is expected to remain about the same.

There are also rumors that Saab is going to release a "Black Turbo" version of the 9-3 with 300 horsepower and all-wheel-drive. This would finally make the car competitive with BMW and the other luxury brands.

Saabs have went downhill ever since GM took over.

Jacob Blab:

Saab looks damn ugly even before GM took over.

Eat me:

And fords are POS for people who hate cars...

AutoPhile:

Holy Cow does look like a damn Godawful ugly looking car. Yep definitely GM's doing...or should i say Undoing.

What's sad is that i used to really like SAAB's until GM ruined them into the ground

Whether or not you like the styling, Saabs have long been very solid, efficient, and versatile. GM appeared to have done little to improve the brand except force "manufacturing efficiency" on Trollhattan. Hopefully we'll see some new designs coming out besides this little face lift.

Nevertheless, I would drive the SportCombi long before even considering any bloated utility vehicle. Buyers in the USA need to tell GM and Ford to start building wagons and hatchbacks again, because the SUV craze will bankrupt us. Who wants to drop a Franklin at every fill-up? Unless the exchange rate continues to swing out of control, it'd be cheaper to invest in the quality and fuel efficiency of the premium-priced Saab over domestic guzzlers.

GM KILLED SAAB. no wonder why they're having their cans handed to them by japanese automakers and have never figured out how to manufacture a decent car. take the SAAB 9-5 for example. why would i pay $40,000 for a 9-5 when the dash...stereo and climate system...are the same corporate stereo and climate system found in a BUICK? or take the SAAB 9-7 SUV. IT IS A BUICK with a SAAB badge on it. the SAAB 9-2 is a SUBARU for god's sake. GM HAS KILLED SAAB.

You guys are all crazy, Yes American car companies including GM have fell short of quality in recent decades but whether or not you want to believe it, things are changing. GM has adopted its Reuse Strategy in which it will reuse 40% to 60% of its parts, (http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=47902889), this alleviates many of the engineering difficulties with new parts and ensures a higher quality product. Domestic car companies are not stupid, they see the stats, quality sells, and they are all trying to moving in the right direction now. "In addition, GM outpaced the industry with an 11 percent improvement in quality in the annual J.D. Power and Associates 2001 Initial Quality Study. GM was the highest ranking domestic automaker, with nine vehicles placing among the top three in their categories and three vehicles ranking highest." (http://www.gm.com/company/investor_information/earnings/hist_earnings/01_q2/index.html)
As far as styling goes, I think its great. Maybe its just not American enough for you, if thats the case I here the Camaro is making a reappearance, why don't you just wait for that? Ha. If you look at the styling accents throughout the car you will see that it is trying to compete with foreign markets, European to be exact and I think it does a damn good job. General Motors has been the majority share holder for the originally Swedish based company for going on two decades now and quality is at its best. The main problem you have here in the states is price competition; because of currency exchange foreign car manufactures have and advantage over domestic car companies, therefore, for decades quality was sacrificed, but due to new innovations and more efficient manufacturing GM is on its way to making major improvements.

Saabfile:

I agree that GM has destroyed the image and reputation of the Saab brand. Please, if there is anyone at Saab in Trollhattan reading this, let the executives of Saab Sweden (not Saab USA) know that American car buyers are steering clear of Saabs that are based on or built from known mediocre GM models such as the Blazer. How could the executives at Saab let this happen? Give the design and engineering back to those in Sweden who want to differentiate the Saab line of cars from all the other GM made cars. The Saab SUV based on the Chevy Blazer is a total loser.
