Apparently Bob Lutz (Vice Chairman of GM) admires what Porsche has done with their lineup. They have managed to make the jump from sports cars to SUVs and now they have the upcoming 2009 Porsche Panamera sedan. Lutz has spoken candidly about the fact that Chevy could do something similar with the Corvette (Which means he isn't opposed to it).
According to Automotive News the upcoming Porsche and Aston Martin sedans are expected to be smash hits, so they feel that there must be a market for a Corvette sedan.
Does this mean that Chevrolet is working on a 4-door Corvette? Who knows. But would anyone actually buy it if they did? Also is a Corvette in the same league as Aston Martin or Porsche?

YA, no. Well, its just that it would lose its character. Porsche and Aston are brands, not models, so its ok for them to expand. But to have a corvette sedan, the car would be completely different. Maybe Cehvy or some other gm brand could make a sports sedan, but don't call it corvette.

They already make a corvette sedan.
The cts v uses a corvette engine.
use the engine, thats fine just don't associate it with the corvette
The corvette is the 1 vehicle that chevrolet does right. Don't ruin it buy using it on a vehicle that you're likely to get wrong.

Everyone I know thinks that they're both horrible ideas - as would be a 4-door Vette.

I think it isn't a bad Idea if they do it right, Look at Holden's Commodore, its a four door Sports coupe, and the new Monaro was just a Two door version, if they do it right (Don't count on it) it could be a good Idea.

Four door sports coupe?! Holden's Commodore is a four door family car. I think you're thinking of the Mazda RX-8.

Could work, if like others suggested they didn't use the "Corvette" moniker. After all, it appears that BMW has excellent success with their M5 and M6 cars, so why not? However, doesn't the Cadillac CTS-V already kinda fullfill this niche?

GM already has 1 and about to get another 4 door vette. The CTS V and the Holden Comodore SSV (aka soon to be in the US Pontiac G8).
The Aston Rapide 4 door is a great looking ride. Credit to this goes to the fantastic Aston styling which can be seen in all their cars (Vantage, DB9, etc). It shows that if you start with a great looking coupe the 4 door will look great as well.
Based on that I think the Vette is a great car so the 4 door should be nicely looking as well.
Should thy do it? Yes and I don't think they would use the Corvette name. None of the others are using the base name (AM Rapide and Porsche Panamera).
I don't think this is crazy at all.
The world was shocked when Porsche made the Cayene and that was Porsche, a legend, which only made sport 2 door coupes (unitl then).

Four Door Vette? Hmm, they already cancelled that. Yep, it was around from 1994-1996.
It was called the Impala SS. They killed that off even though it was a money maker.
Besides, did they just release a press statement saying that they were going to get rid of all rear-drive cars except for the vette and upcoming camaro?
But, the vette is now made on the same chasis as other GM vehicles which are four-door, so it'd be easy for them to do both and play the game of symantics.

If this is done, it would be a mistake for Chevy to refer to it as a '4 door Corvette.' That would dilute the one thing (in my opinion) that Chevy is doing right.
Instead, they should keep the Corvette pure: Built to compete with the worlds supercars.
Instead, they should create a new car focused on competing toe-to-toe with the worlds great touring/sports sedans.
Frankly, this SHOULD be the Camaros role. But I think the Camaro concept car is a total mess. It's too big, too heavy, too clumsy looking. It needs to be scrapped, and re-visioned from scratch. But it won't be, and adding a '4 door Corvette' would only further muddy those waters.
Chevy needs to get it's vision in order.

What would be next; a sedan version of the Viper? a sedan version of the Lambordini? I definetly say 'NO'. If one wants a sports sedan, there are lots of companies that make them.

Wait, even better!!! Porsche will sell SUV's...
Ah, Ha ha ha ha ha ha...
(No, the CamAro is 4 seat, not 4 door, BTW)

alright look BOB if you try and chase what porsch did with there cars then your gona mess every thing up for corvette. corvette didnt det its reputation by being a grandmas sedan. the name corvette stands for ground pounding adreneline pumping porsche wooping super car.plain and simple if you make a sedan you will mess up corvettes reputation. porsche didnt really get there name for being super cars they got there name for being a super car they got there name for being a luxurious sporty car that has never fell on a hard time and corvette has it didnt get its name be cause it a little old womens daily driver it got its name by not bein all about luxury and being all about speed and power. now if your gona change the face of the corvette then you mite as well as forget about the younger newer market coming and buying corvettes. me ive loved corvettes since i was borne so it would really hurt to see such a geourgeus car be ruind just so you can follow the crowd. corvette doasnt need that what corvette needs is to be givin even more power and to take the super car trophies back from everbody else so should corvette build a sedan HELL no thats not what corvette is put more power to wheight ratios in and lets stick with what it was born to be just leave this beautiful peace of art work alone PLEAS!
