Kicking Tires has posted some cell phone shots of the upcoming 2008 Pontiac G8. The car was unveiled earlier this year at the Chicago Auto Show.
The red Pontiac G8 in these shots is a pre-production model, although there wont probably be any significant changes for the production model. One interesting element is the silver Pontiac logo that was on the car at the Chicago Auto Show. The logo is also on this version and is reportedly receiving positive reviews.
According to the guys over at Kicking Tires, the interior quality is also better than typical Pontiacs.
The car's price is expected to be in the low $30,000 to mid $35,000.

It took the GM Monkeys many years to figure out that the Australian Holdens + German Opels CAN and WILL significantly enhance their portfolio here in the US.
I would have done it 10 years ago so congratulations to bozos at GM for being "only" 10 years behind the program.

Yeah, 10 years behind and with rising fuel prices how well is this 6.0L+ V8 beast going to sell?
I'm thinking the lightly pre-owned market will be filled with these when the owners realize its real world fuel economy is 13mpg.

The only reason GM is able to sell these is due to the extremely tall cogs in the AT upper gears and the 1-4 skip shift and tall OD gears in the 6-speed.

Ummm...have you ever heard of the 1991 Pontiac LeMans? It was an Opel Kadet w/ a Daewoo engine...it was the biggest piece of crap on the road.

Noya, mileage will be somewhat better than 13mpg, I'm afraid. Besides, its main competition is what, Charger? Like Hemis get good mileage?
Now what they really need is a 9C1 version of this beast. With the weight distribution and suspension combined with that engine, it would blow Vic and Charger intercepters away.

This car should and will get better than 13mpg city. My 6.0L GTO (Holden Monaro) gets 25mpg highway, and 18+mpg city. Granted it's an M6, but those figures are my own, and it's certainly not bad for a 400hp/395ft/lb vehicle. If gm puts either the A6 or M6 in the G8, it will perform similar.

How would you change the spark plugs on this monster?

you take the top engin cover off and then you can change the spark plugs.
Also here in australia we call these cars holden commodores and the sport versions look awsome. They also have a luxury version called the statesman and i would take that over a BMW any day. It just looks so mean and classy.

There's also a long wheelbase version sold in Australia (and China and the Middle East) called the Holden Caprice that would make a perfect cop car - same basic powertrain and suspension. Let's hope GM wises up and imports that one - it would dominate the cop car market.

It will get way over 13mpg. It has AFM and a 6 speed auto and manual. It should get near 30/22mpg. My 98 Camaro with a huge cam and 500 RWHP gets 18/13mpg so I am sure this car will get more duh!

I have an SS VE Commodore, 6l M6 and get on average 12-15litres per 100km, not too sure of the conversion to mpg but definately better than 13 mpg. Secondly why would the police need a LWB version ? the interior has so much space in stock form and handling is far superior.

12-15 litres per 100km is roughly 15-20 mpg

Hi all, You might have a look at this

This is what they look like in racing form in Oz. Can't see why you need a 6L V8. The 5l here is more than enough. I saw the G8 being tested in Mudgee, Australia last month. The version they had looked much better without the overstated front end. Ruined a good car. Also looked out of place in LHD version.
Enjoy a good Ozzie car.

I have never been sold on a fwd car and this is why I haven't purchased any autos in the pass 12 years because the mechanical up keep on front wheel drive cars are so costly besides I never saw fwd car on the nascar circuit,in taxe cab fleets or purchased by highway controll state police.yes there have been fords and mercurys available in this time period, but those models have a fault built into them that would be costly to owners whom kept their cars 10 to 12 years and taxie cab fleets an state police don't leave cars in setrvice this long so the fault built into the exhust system doesn't impact them and that fault is attaching cast iron exhust manifolds to a aluminum heads( you can't replace bad exhust manifolds alone)because you usually are unable to remove steel bolts out of aluminum heads without destroying the head. This fault would impact my ownership and I don't need the cost of a repair bill on a 7-10 year old car that is more then the car is wroth. This is why I would be interested in the G8 baring the fact they haven't engeenier a similar fault in the G8's exhust system.
