PickupTruck.com has posted new spy photos of the upcoming 2009 Dodge Ram. These pictures show a new front end that is been welded to the current truck. The new styling of the Ram pickup is going to move away from its "big rig" looks so that it is more aerodynamic, thereby improving fuel economy.
Although the front end is new it still retains the familiar Dodge grille that is on other Dodge vehicles, especially like the Dodge Charger. The new Ram that is expected to go on sale next summer will have four engine choices. The base engine will be the 4.0L V6 from the Nitro that puts out 260hp. The next engine will be the 4.7L V8 that is used in the Dodge Dakota, which puts out 300hp and the 5.7L HEMI V8 will get a small bump in displacement and power. A new Cummins V8 diesel will also be offered. All engines will use a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The test mule was caught testing alongside the new Tundra and current Dodge Rams. It is interesting that neither the F-150 nor Chevy Silverado were present.

A new Cummins V8 diesel motor will be use as part of the Dodge ram performance parts. As we all know both gas and diesel V8s will use 6-speed automatic transmissions. Though I don't like the front design but for the purpose of aerodynamic and fuel economy, I think this would do...

I'm never going back to Dodge. They're the cheapest trucks for a reason. You get what you pay for. I drive my ram only 10k a year because I use it only for its purpose, towing. But even then it breaks down. The tranny is the weak point with these trucks. Other owners and forums can testify to that.
I'm already having to fix the tranny or torque converter. Currently as I write this comment, its at the shop. I might trade it in for a Ford F150. If I could afford it, the new Tundra would be nice.
Bye Dodge!

You are right, no car brand has perfect cars that never break down, keep on believing that Asian cars are better, go check out a dealer service at a Honda, Toyota, or Nissan dealership. They have just as many cars being worked on because of problems as American automakers do. Its just that for every hundred cars made, there is probably going to be a lemon, these vehicles are coming off of fast paced assembly lines, there are destined to be problems with some of them. You just have to hope that the vehicle you choose is not that lemon that got overlooked at the plant and made it to the lot.

just wondering about the specs of the new V8 cummins. why does a 90s diesel pick up all seem to get 10+ mpg more than the 2007+? regardless of make. is it noise, emissions or conspiracy? point is, a large gas V8 pulls at 12-14 mpg loaded 12700 lbs gvw(at least mine does) where is the advantage with diesel?

To LM: the IsuzuMax (aka Duramax) is holding up pretty well, at least in current form. The real problems with it have been "peripherals" i.e. the fuel injector failure.
to bill l: The average MPG spread I read is only 18-25 MPG across all Ram Cummins trucks from 89 to current. My 2005 gets 20 or better on average on summer fuel. I don't know where you get your figures, but most large V8s don't do that well loaded, and typically barely do that unloaded.
The new V8 Cummins is for half-ton pickups (Ram 1500s) and is a 5.6 liter engine running about 200-250 HP range and about 460 lb-ft torque, which is about what the original 5.9 Inline 6 B series engines did, torque-wise, when they were first put in the Rams. It's about 300 lbs. lighter than the 5.9, and has an additional 50 or so HP. It's been in design and testing for about 10 years, as I understand. It has a little brother, 4.2 L V6 on the same block to be used in Durangos, Dakotas, etc.

Actually, there is false speculation about the power and torque figures for the new Cummins 4.2 V6 and 5.6 V6.
The actual current figures are:
4.2L POWER = 177kw (237HP) @ 3600rpm
TORQUE = 569Nm (420ft-lbs)
5.6L V8 POWER = 260kw (350HP) @ 4000rpm
TORQUE = 760Nm (560ft-lbs)
(from page 3 of the PDF link below)
These figures are consistant with current diesel technology, not the 260HP for the V8. I actually think it will be even better when its actually out.

I don't what the big deal is. I simply throw a couple a bucks of fuel in my tank and it gets me home almost everytime. I dig the Hemi though I just raced a Chevy Cobalt and I waxed him. I guess I probably got it up to 60 or maybe even 70 and he was at least a full car link behind me. Wow the acceleration, and the ladys I get from this pickup are unbelievable. I went out to the Roller Rink last week with one of the babes I met. My moto is "I like fast trucks and fast women, that's why the guys in my car club call me the cruiser" Well gotta go syphon some fuel out of the neighbors Toyota and go out cruising that dude is so stupid he told me the other day he was getting 4 mpg with his Camry and asked what I thought was wrong. I simply said I don't have an idea what you are talking about, are you accusing me of something? I'm going to get my hatchet , needles to say he was gone when I got back and the police bought my story when I told them I had the hatchet to cut down a tree in he trailer court. But my neighbor knows I catch him outside again he's history. And this helps with the syphoning of his gas. Oh yea Iost my syphon pump. Well I will just punch a whole in the tank with my screw driver and catch he gas in an old coffee can and pour it in the 2005 dodge ram with 451,985 miles on it.
