Ford is the UK's "Most Trusted" Automaker?!

For the seventh consecutive year, Ford has been voted by readers of the Reader's Digest as Britain's most trusted car brand.

The survey covers 15 countries and 38 product categories and assesses over 24,000 replies.

Would this be the case if they had the same product line that we have here in the U.S.? It is widely known that Ford of Europe has a lot better models that we do. For example, they have a different Focus and the new Mondeo, while we are stuck with a modified version of the first generation Focus.

Hello everybody. First of all, for me as an european, Portugal, those numbers are so strange. Trust me, Ford is a brand which is disapearing. If there is brands of cars that european trust they proly are german or japonese, even english people prefer Jaguar to Ford anyday. I'm no english but in theyr streets you can see much more Jaguars than Ford... It's known in europe that Ford make reliable cars, but they don't go fast neither have a good efficiency in fuel consumption, european expect at least that you have a car that goes really fast when it drinks fuel like Fords do. Those numbers are just cheap publicity. My 2 cents.

Battousai:

A Jaguar is basicly a ford. Atleast there owned by ford.

look at the bottom....
Ford may not be involved in production that much but they do own them.

CHuico:

Hello. Thanks for the reply.
Ford has bought Jaguar in 1989, but it didn't change the fact that Ford is for nothing in the construction of any Jaguar. They are designed and built in England by Jaguar. Ford is just the owner of a good trademark, Jaguar that is.
Regards

Steve:

Actually, Jaguar, Mazda and Ford all share technology with each other. The Jaguar X-Type has the same frame as the Ford Mustang and I belive the Mazda 6. Yes, Jags are built in England, but Ford and all it's partners share tech...it helps with cost and hopefully helps with better tech. And I was in England a few years ago and there are Fords EVERYWHERE. Focus's I would say have to be one of the most popular cars there. Jaguars no matter where you buy them are expensive and people with money own them...not the regular Brit.

gm0n3y:

This story has nothing to do with what cars are the best or which are popular, it is just saying that people trust Ford's reliability in the UK.

JJ:

What you have to remember is that if they trust the car that means that they buy them. Me for instance. I don't really trust or like any other car brand except for any in the Ford family. That includes Mazda, Lincoln and so on.

I do know that in Europe, Fords sell better than BMWs or even VW. Its like the beer over there. Bud Wiser is the top selling.

Don't get me wrong. Their cars and beer are nothing like ours. What with the Euro4 standard, which is stricter than the Euro3 standard but still not as strict as the US standards for cars, which allows more power and better engines that last longer.

I think the only car Ford has ever made even remotely close to what they have in Europe was the Contour. Yes the Contour, here from 1995-2000. Originaly introduced in Europe in 1993 as the Mondeo. Now they still have it in Europe. Still a kick ass car. Watch James Bond: Casino Royale. The first car he drives is a 2007 Ford Mondeo ST220 Hatchback. Man thats a nice car.

I still get angry to this day that Europe gets the better cars.

martin:

Hello, everyone. As a matter of fact, ford/lincoln are the only cars that I personally seen many times with over 400,000 miles on original engine and tranny. What's to say about that? I dont know, but I think i have a point here. Not every car maker can achieve such reliability and durability in their productions. As the European cars, Bmw etc, it's true, great performance, suspension, etc; but you don't see many of those with more than 10 years still kicking. About the Jaguar, if you wanna have a miserable life, buy one. Mechanics love them, why? They keep the bussines runing good, and as a matter of fact, you see some, but not a lot of those running in the U.S streets. Conclusion, I've had bmw, vw, fiat, peugeot, even russian cars, and I sure don't know about survey's results a lot, but I can tell you this; there is no a stronger car, than an american car. The problem is you need to know how to choose, every car maker has always built a bad car at some point, but you've got to remember every other one. Is it one car enough to judged them all?, I dont think so.

bill:

Well, the Focus is the best selling car in the UK and for good reason. It is generally voted the best car in it is class. And, it is too bad Ford won't update the US Focus to be more like the European one, rather than take a 2 generation old platform and put an ugly skin on it.
Also, consider the latest Mondeo. Another, amazing effort by Ford.
How come they can get it right over here in Europe and not bring the good styling and technology to the States?
And, why does this article show a American Focus and talk about Ford UK?

MDH:

Well, it IS a reader's digest survey, not exactly known for being 'drivers'. Fords are popular with road testers because the UK ones handle. They score VERY badly in reliability compared to most other makers, although they're improving. yet they still sell big. And because people who don't know cars see so many of them on the road, they assume they're good and buy them.

Gotta be honest though, the 2nd gen focus was a bit dull, but still FAR better looking that the US one. The 08 edition has just been facelifted to look like the latest Mondeo too, and again, not a bad looking car.

The one at the topof this page is UGLY.
